Travel, Trips, Destinations / Re: Costa Rica for some sup surf intro
« on: November 29, 2013, 08:14:37 AM »
Really can't go wrong anywhere on the Pacific Coast that time of year...there will be surf pretty much anywhere.  I'll be up in Langosta / Tamarindo area starting in mid January....  Some of the big questions in choosing a location is... Are you bringing boards or do you need to rent?  Do you wanna take lessons or figure it out on your own?  What else do you wanna do when you are not surfing?  Spa, volcano, ziplining, etc, etc ??
There are quite a few Zoners with extensive experience in CR... you should find some good help here...

CRT,

Surf sup rental tips in Nosara these days? Also have family with us so regular tour boards or outing spots near bays, or protected areas, reefs, wildlife, etc.

Don't have experience w/ anyone in Nosara, but I'm sure there are a few...there is a thread w/ BlueZone which seems like they have it dialed...  If you are anywhere near tamarindo on the way down to Nosara, check out Marco.... he's here on the zone and I'd recommend him in a heartbeat....

Technique / Re: How to get into a wave on Allwave?

Surf stance take off for sure.... only time I use the parallel stance while taking off on a wave is if it's a really slow wave and you have plenty of time and usually on a bigger board....

Stay away from others while learning... it's hard to concentrate on what you want to do when you are having to avoid hitting or being hit by others....

It is a matter of timing also.... with the cruiser, you could just paddle real hard and you would catch the wave even if your timing was way off cause the board had so much glide...with the 8'10" AW there is a much smaller "window" where you will be in the right position to catch the wave.... timing is everything, hard to explain, but once you get it, it becomes much easier.... hang in there
