Random / Scorpius oc-1

Randy inroduced me to OC-1 paddling Saturday.  We did a casual (for him) maliko run in 20mph winds.  Swells were exhilarating in a canoe.  Glides were remarkably easy to catch, but it takes a lot of skill to navigate them.  I flipped (hulied) at least a dozen times.  My voice got hoarse from screaming and laughing like a fiend.  I paddled to exhaustion like a kid wolfing down chocolate.  It was crazy silly fun.     

Enjoyed it so much I bought a boat the next day.  Took delivery a few hours ago.  It's a Hawaii made scorpius.  Double carbon hull and ama - very light.  Seller is a very talented paddler- notorius for taking excellent care of his canoes.  This boat is just flawless.  It has scratches from 8 months of use, but that's it.  Paint is a beautiful brown fade with a black outline over white.  It's incredible how something so big (21-6 x 16") and fragile can be so ding free.  Super Super happy with the purchase.

Downwind and Racing / New F-16 pics

Took delivery today, 2 weeks ahead of schedule.  It's all primer gray, 400 sanded on the bottom, gloss urethane on the deck and rails, gray pad.

It's a custom shape, with a few changes to the very fast f-16 mold.  The sides are taller and the deck is dropped just a tad.  The nose has more volume and is turned up a bit more.  The bottom of the nose is also flat to concave, rather than convex.

The pics aren't the best.  Here is the outline.



This sort of shows the upturned snoot and extra volume.



Lots of room on the deck, paddle is in spectra loops.

Wow, this guy is a rock.

All those miles, on a skinny 12-2, loaded with gear. 

Truly an epic paddle in my opinion.

Sessions / first maliko run

chan and randy were kind enough to let me tag along on a maliko run today.

had so much fun on the water i'm considering quitting work and turning pro. 

unfortunately, there are no pro ranks, and i'm slow.   

regardless, it was a real blast, and i can't wait to do it again. 

lots to learn in that downwind stuff.  fell off at least 30 times. 

had a few long speedy rides too.  great fun.
