what`s the reason for the cork?dosen`t it just make the board heavier?i have been using cork for deck pads for years and it works great

The Shape Shack / Re: CUSTUM PADDLES ??????

no core.i cut a rough blade shape out of foam and then put alayer of plastic with silicone spray.then a layer of carbon cloth ,tow and fiberglass.then another layer of peel plastic then paper towles as a breather then into the vacumn bag.when it cures i just peel everything off .now i have a rough shape to work with .i then layer up some more tow and fiberglass and back in the bag.you can just keep adding layers until you get it to the desired stiffness.by running the shaft down the face of the blade at an angle you can keep the blade pretty thin, the shaft stffens it up.

i just finished one down here in mexico.it wieghs 760 grams.the shaft is a wrap of glass with 2 layers of tow lengthwise and another wrap of tow circular around the shaft.the blade is 1 layer of 4 oz glass,1 layer of carbon fiber cloth and 2 layers of lenghtwise tow.also a layer of tow crisscrossing.there is also a weaved collar like nic does, and the handle is foam wrapped with tow.not much to look at but it should work just fine.probably about $30 worth of material at the most.i`ll try to attach fotos
