I was really bummed that I missed out on this too. Need to pay attention to more sections on the forum here.  Looks like it was a great time.

Technique / Paddling stroke videos
« on: July 01, 2013, 05:38:29 PM »
Since I am bored stupid while recovering from shoulder surgery (not from SUP), I have been looking and trying find stroke videos.  I feel my stroke is ok and could always use improvement.

Does the zone have any accumulation of stroke videos or links to stroke videos. Instead of having to search and search.  Or could we just put them all in to one thread.  That way they would be easy to find and people could discuss the pros and cons of each, or their results from each.

Don't know how far from this place you are but it might be a place to look at before Florida.

Very sweet looking board!  Sounds like a lot of board for the price too.

If I can throw my 2 cents in with a little different angle on the SIC.  Instead of the Bullet, why don't you look at the X-14.  When I first saw the 14 Bullet, I was in love.  But being in Florida we won't get a swell like that board was meant for.  I don't know what kind of areas you will be riding in the NE, but I imagine it won't be like the islands.  The X-14 being a little better in the flatter stuff but still being able to handle chop and I  would say to moderate swell. It is 29.5" wide too.

I have heard good things about that board.  That photo shows a lot of them are true. Looks like a great day on the water.  My dog, an aussie, won't sit still to stay on a board.

Hey Area,  it gets warm. I would not call it hot. I was in the sun for longer periods over the weekend and it was not a problem to touch.

SUP's are just a magnet for kids to play on.  My son and I paddled this weekend to a waterfront restaurant that is about 2 miles from my house.  Only problem was that it would be into the wind all the way there. But we would have an easy ride on the way home. He is only ten and though he has played around on it paddling here and there, he has never done distance.  The wind was about 10-15 mph each day.  It took him about 20-30 minutes to get hold of maneuvering the board, a 12'6' Amundsun TR.  he got the hang of it and we made our way.  Once there, the fathers enjoyed a few beverages and the kids just played.  It was a great weekend.  Cruising home with the wind allowed him to work his stroke some with out struggling.  He made a lot of progress with it over the weekend and had a blast.

I got  the fins Friday but was fishing all day.  The new screwless fins are awesome. They go in and out without hassle and fit very good.  The board is much more stable than with the factory futures.  They also track much better.  All I did was straight paddling because of what was going on over the weekend so I did not get to play with pivot turns around anything. I will not be able to compare them with speed or anything soon. I am having shoulder surgery on Friday and it has been aggravated for the past week, so I have not been able to push anything.  I am very happy with the performance with these new fins in the board. And they look really cool.

Here are some shots with the new fins installed.  I was able to get the camera out on the water rather than sitting in my driveway.
