What you are looking for is hold - I'd suggest increasing size of sidebites, it will stiffen board up a tad which can be countered by moving center fin forward (as you have experienced) - fins can kill and make the performance of board and are very personal - generally Naish's set-up is pretty spot on, but I have changed set-up on one or two Naish's with great effect.

I've got absolutely no qualms about my drafting tactics - we all do it over here and the guy who gets over the line first wins - we call it racing here. No one lets the next guy win because he felt bad about drafting him the whole race either - if he can outsmart him, good for him. And splashing a competitor for being drafted? Come on, get on with it, if you don't like it stop and let him pass.
Until the rules ban it - do it. And I hope they don't because its an aspect of the race-strategy/set of tools that you need to master.
Another aspect I find is that in flatwater it's easy and hugely beneficial, but in choppy open ocean its a lot harder to do, especially on the narrower more tippy raceboards. Then it becomes less beneficial and I have found in some races that I rather go out wide and focus on my rhythm than getting stuck in with 4 guys nose to tail and sharing paint.
There's a lot in the strategy but strategy alone won't win you the race......

Last year we did a 7km race in perfect conditions - this guy got out ahead and I managed to latch onto his draft, I stayed there until 50meters from the finish where I opened up and overtook him and won. He was 20 yo and I'm 45 - that should teach him....

Windreading from last nights downwinder: Kite beach wind 16 Feb 18h40 30.1/SE/17/41 18h34 34.7/SE/23/53 18h18 31.0/SE/19/45 18h13 34.9/SE/23/48 Avg/Dir/Lo/Hi knots Powered by BulkSMS.com Ivan and Greg used the 12'6 and came 3rd and 2nd respectively - Chris set a new courserecord on the 14' Glide. Full article on www.suphq.com later Seems they prefer the 12'6 when its nuclear.....and as Brendon said jump on the 14 when less windy.

The Millers run is similar distance to the Milnerton run of about 10km - and not many SUP's have done it yet. The surfski guys paddle about 1km out across the wind before they turn and start their run to get the right angle - the thought of traversing 35knots cross winds have put most of us on SUP's off.
But the reward would be plentiful as you'd get nuclear wind with open ocean swell coming from the same direction - whereas we in Table Bay on the Milnerton run just experience nuclear winds...case in point is tonights downwind race which should peak at 40-45knots!!!
We hope to be 30 guys and gals hitting the water tonight so the Downwind thing is definately taking off down here. Sharks are not an issue in Table Bay and you can wear a shorty quite comfortably.

I have ridden both boards back to back and they both have their pros and cons. The new 9'0 has the new trick handle, concave deck and some concave in the bottom whereas the 9'3 has more pronounced rocker and slightly thinner rails.
Stability wise it really is much of a muchness, 9'0 perhaps settles itself a little quicker but after 10 seconds you are as stable on 9'3 and then you don't even think about it. The 9'3 is wider which evens out the advantage of the concaves imo.
9'0 I found a little more drivey off the bottom with a smidgen more hold, off the top they are equally loose with the 9'3's more pronounced nose rocker and being slightly lighter encouraging more radical re-entry.
Both are sensitive to foot-positioning and definately have quite defined sweet-spots - I found the 9'0 having a more distinct sweet-spot which is great when you find it, and not so much when you don't...
In steeper hollow waves I'd take the 9'3 and it waves where you'd need to generate speed of the bottom I'd take the 9'0 - but there really isn't much in it.
I think it goes to show that the 9'3 was a very good design to start with.
I sell Naish boards and have had some guys prefer new 9'0 and others prefer 9'3 - a few have swopped out and others haven't felt it was worth it so it's not a clear cut case of newer is better per se.
I think that is the beauty of good board-designs - they all have their own traits, but the individual rider will have his own set of personal preferences - so try them both if you can and make up your mind.

The best video I've seen was filmed from a ski or boat following Bart van der Zwart and Connor Baxter - not sure if he had some kind of steady-cam contraption as filming in that chop is normally too shaky. I'd love to see heli-footage to get the bird eyes view as well.
Here in Cape Town we have a pretty solid 10km run with perfect wind angle and normally gusting into the 30knot range with a quite a few 40knot+ days as well. This time of year its 30knots at least twice/trice a week. The only thing we lack on that run is ocean swell running at the same angle as the wind - how often does that happen on your runs?
And perhaps for the same reason we've had limited success with boards over 14' as they seem to bury their noses in the short windswell interval - anyone done some thinking on what conditions suit what boards?
Having said that it's a very popular run with the surf-ski crowd and their boats are around 20'
