Gear Talk / Everyday new board help
« on: June 11, 2022, 04:29:58 PM »
Unfortunately I didn’t learn my lesson from windsurfing and chased SUP down a rabbit hole. Race boards got too narrow to be fun, my surf board is awesome but only in perfect conditions. On top of that my work/water time ratio is off. Now wind foiling has saved my time on water itch but I do miss SUP. Time for a new board, something I can throw in the truck when I can sneak away and not worry about a thing. Something big, stable, surfable, maybe sailable. Surf, log some miles, ocean river, whatever.
Narrowed down to JP Hybrid, Imagine Crossover, Starboard Generation(no mast plug) Sunova Search(also no mast plug).
Just looking to not get skunked anymore, have a board that can do it all. I understand the “do it all” board comes with limitations but a day on the water is better than none.
Recommendations?
Thanks!

SUP Gear Reviews / Newly Acquired / On Order / Jimmy Lewis Destroyer
« on: June 22, 2019, 05:37:22 AM »
So after some back and forth with Jimmy and a much anticipated wait I have recieved my new board! Jimmy Lewis Destroyer, 7’7” x 29” at 100 ltrs. Absoulutely exactly what I was looking for. Nice full nose coming back to pin tail. This will be my main got to board as it should handle any conditions we get here in FL. It has a nice flat deck, comfy looking pad, weighs nothing and the fit and finish of everything is absolutley amazing. Not only did I want the dimensions of this board but also wanted the bomber construction these boards have a reputation for. Military guy and definetly on a budget, this is the first board I have bought brand new and I had to buy it sight unseen so I was very nervous. But after everything I could not be happier and look forward to many fun years with her!

Hooked up with fellow Zoner Beached and got his Sunova Shroom. A bit small for him as he went for a floatier Hypernut. This one is 7’9” x 30” at 104 ltrs. For me at 195lbs I found it plenty stable and easy to paddle. Much more paddle friendly than my KM. Got out this weekend in 3-4’ glassy waves and it was super fun. Crazy design and different than anything I’ve ever been on but I can see how it will be perfect for our Florida waves. Quick to plane, feels like a skateboard when up and going. Other things that stuck out were how easy it was to paddle through white water heading out  and it tracks super straight when paddling around .  Construction on these boards are top notch. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a smaller/mushy wave board.

Foil SUP / All-in-1 boards
« on: April 20, 2018, 03:49:18 PM »
So from an average joe weekend warrior with a background in surfing, paddling and windsurfing that is looking to get into foiling the new do-it-all boards seemed like a dream. Sup, sup-foil, windsurf, windsurf-foil all in one, thin out the quiver while adding foiling. F-One, Naish, Fanatic, Starboard, etc., etc. all make one. All around 7’6-7-11” and 120ish ltrs. seems though(especially after reading the recent  production foil board thread) that designs are still changing fast. Looking for advice from folks already with the foiling bug. Are these boards to good to be true? Instead of buying a do it all board will I be getting a do nothing, compromising on everything board? Maybe wait a bit until foil tech settles down a bit?

SUP Gear Reviews / Newly Acquired / On Order / My new ride!
« on: January 05, 2018, 06:21:06 PM »
Next in progression and loving it so far. First year was a Lahui Kai 12’6 x 26”, my first race board. Then went KM Compressor 14’ x 24” and now on the F-one 14’ x 23.5”. All very different boards and I’m glad where I ended up. The F-One is stable, fast and more of an all round race board. Budget says just one race board for now and feel this board will handle more conditions. It feels fast in the flats, handles chop and flies with anything pushing it from behind. 4lbs lighter than the KM and more stable even though narrower.  Actually both boards were more stable than the Lahui Kai at 26”. Looking forward to the upcoming race season!

A couple pics of my son and I doing a local time trial event. Good weather, good people and spending time on the water. Isn't that what SUP is all about?!

Hey guys, been a busy year for Mil-Surf adding many great companies and organizations that support the military and it's veterans through surfing sports. Also, I have started to add surf locations that are unique to military access on bases. If you know of any base breaks, military discounts, or military surf events please let me know! I will continue to add them to the site. Thanks for all your support.

SUP General / SUP New Years Resolution
« on: December 30, 2012, 01:43:53 PM »
Well, a new year brings new goals. The recent posts on days logged on the water has inspired me to make it a goal to spend more time on the water this year myself. Quick morning outings before work, and getting the kids out on the water during the flatter days, I think I can almost double my time on the water this year.  I also just ordered my new universal to be able to sail my Exocet Fish which should get me out on choppy/windy days I may have other-wise passed up. With the kids on flat days, SUP surfing on good wave days, sailing my SUP board in the 10-20 knot range and windsurfing the 20+ days, I think I now have all my days covered. I also hope to get to a few paddle events this year and try my hand at some competitions.

Any other resolutions out there?

Hey guys,
Check out the N. FL SUP Group Facebook page. There are some pics from Jacksonville Beach FL and the SUP division of the ESA contest held this morning. Good to see they included the sup's and hopefully we will see more contests in the area for 2013.
