not a sandal but vibram five fingers are like rubber gloves for da feet...

the kso's (sheer fabric) or the flo's (neoprene) are the best options for sup.

interesting product and you don't even need snow. looks like a great emergency shelter but i wouldn't call it an igloo.

here's one built using grand shelters' product...

it was a sweet movie... but the science was downright atrocious!

they would have done better mining a natural occurring aerogel instead of unobtainium for something more substantial and the carbon composite in bone structure made me vomit a little because if you just think about it a little...

one thing they almost did get right is that plants, for the most part, form a direct link between the troposphere and terra firma. one sure way to send a message to the universe just might be through the trees. oh, but that only happens in the movies. riiiiiiight?

                                                              heheheh... i see you!

corran, i hear that they've been using the hasake, a shallow boat paddled with a sort of enlongated kayak paddle, in the middle east. it's been used for fishing and for navigating close to shore for centuries, in fact, the israeli lifeguards use still them to this day.

makes one wonder if they vactioned in south america back in the day?

looks like there may be a market for something like your stand up 12 in their lineup!

fascinating! that vault description works on more than one facet as it describes a leap and an arch...

and you know you're a whippersnapper when you hit the followthrough with your back arched (then snap your arse back)...

kinda leaves ya itchin' for more...

yeah! that's what i'm talking about. and when we paddle, in a sense, we are the wave or at least another "wave form" or better yet an integral part of all that's in motion. conceptually the paddle can be regarded as an extension of the torso, arms, and the hands while the board performs as an extension of the torso (yet again) and legs. both are merely tools extending our senses and capabilities.

for the novice it is more than enough to attempt to maintain balance while performing the arduous task of clumsily juggling both the paddle and the board along with awkward motions. there is a disconnection that is most apparent with those who have just begun to learn how to handle themselves with paddle and board. most notably there's a lot of upper body and arm movement unrelated to what is happening from the waist and below. at first their senses or overrun learning how to go straight or turn while dealing with muscles that have never been used. then it all seems simple enough once they get past those first few hurdles but this is actually just where they're only beginning to learn and this is also when an insightful couch might really make the greatest difference.

once it is understood that the paddle stroke emanates from the hips, going up across the opposite shoulder, punching out through the top hand (or what have you) while drawing with a twisting motion of the back employing less of a pull on the lower grip, characterized by a fluid motion from the dig through the draw, the example still doesn't take into account the other just as vital interface to the water. our ankles flex, knees bend, same as the waist, and back, all in conjunction with the previous motion of arm and paddle (over simplified), all functioning along with that other critically important extension - the board - as it is drawn through, encountering the turbulence created with each paddle stroke not to mention the currents, waves, and wind affecting us from all around.

there really is a lot more to it but an oversimplified version would be to start to unweight after the dig, applying the least weight (most body compression) when there is the most power in the stroke, then start weighing down (gradually straightening out the body) as the paddle is passing mid-stroke developing into full weight (though not ever fully straightened) on follow through and onto the top of the dig, still maintaining full weight till after the start of the dig, and repeat. be sure take into account that the motion in the ocean adds enormous complexity to this scenario.

of course a good part of this comes with time on the water and experience in different conditions. sometimes it's really not good to over think all this, though it eventually wells up from the subconscious. sometimes the thought of it is simply overwhelming and that's enough to break the rhythm or cause a fall. though understanding that there is more to this equation may keep us humbly seeking that elusive nuance probably only attained during those fleeting moments when we allow the mind to go empty.

there's nothing quite like that feeling... almost like being in a bubble!
