Polarized glasses may cause motion sickness for some people given certain lighting conditions.

funny story... was out in maui and realized i didn't pack anything to wear in the water. no biggie, just paid full price for one at a shop and decided to hit the second hand stores for the rest of the wardrobe. when i asked my gracious host to drop me off at said resale shop he offered to give me all the ones he's been saving to put up for donation. our dear friend must've given me over 30 pair many still with tags.  this was over a year ago and just yesterday i reached into the drawer and pulled a fresh one out that's never seen the light of day.

heheheh... many mahalo's!

it doesn't sound too crazy... treat it more like an introduction. you can learn a lot from reading this and other informative sites, books or watching a dvd lesson or two. start off by being unofficial. if you are as isolated as it sounds there shouldn't be too many issues such as conflicts with other people on the water ie: boats or other boarders.

if you think about it most people just hop on without a minute of instruction. the more information you could provide the better off they'd be.

riding these boards under power has a tendency to bring on asymmetric fatigue to the lower back and (rearward) thigh and calf muscles. this is primarily due to the effort it takes to counter the tendency of the rider to fall backward as the board tries to shoot forward from underfoot.

...just because a person doesn't believe certain things should exist shouldn't stop them from exploring the possibilities.

heheheh... not that i'd ever publicly admit to such an aberration.

...had to hack a website to give you this weaky leak.
these are my home breaks to the immediate south. hollywood (osterman) beach in the foreground, foster beach in the middle, then wilson/montrose (where i teach sup) in the background. you may be able to recognize the chicago skyline in the distance. this image updates every 5 or 10 minutes (upon refresh) and occasionally focused on the "pride" side of things when it gets hot out there.

Nice job...one of the prettiest boards we have in the CCBC is a CLC.

I'm thinking about building one for fishing /touring...or maybe one of my own design...slightly wider with hardpoints for mounting amas and gear.

bob... my latest paddle marathon in less than ideal conditions has made me a believer in he outrigger sup!

appreciate that bob!

talk about being in the mix... now i know how a strawberry feels like when the blender is set on frappe. don't know what i sas thinkin'? not taking into account that it was a saturday in rush hour... for boats!!! it was fun until we approached downtown at which point it was like riding a unicycle on the freeway. must've logged more vertical miles in ascent and descent than in forward motion. had to call it quits when it was too rough to remain on the board while kneeling. did 15 miles to north avenue. the other guy, chris, must have gone about 5 miles further before hopping on the safety boat.

wouldn't mind running that course in early spring or fall before or after all the boats are in the water.

great! good to see some other paddlers will be along for the ride. give us a holler if you're around.

was at leone beach this evening for the pre-race bbq shindig... met up with some old friends from when i did the two beach run in 2008. met up with someone who was going to attempt it on a full size amundsen (rental). was stoked to hear someone else was going to give it a go. told him he could use one of the bark 12'6" bop boards in the quiver, saving this old 16' bark carbon ultimate for myself. the officials were gracious enough to allow us to leave early so that we'd have a fighting chance at making the halfway point by the 12:30 pm cutoff time... doable otherwise but we'd have to beat ourselves up just to make the cut and still have to kill it for the finish. figured we might as well allow some time to save ourselves for the joy of finishing last!

practice runs looked promising. with the wind behind me and following seas, 5 mph was a breeze, if tomorrow gives us more of the same, we just may have two finishers tomorrow!!!

conditions look right for an attempt at the chicago shoreline marathon tomorrow saturday 08/28/2010... i'm getting ready to give this one a try.

our shoreline features of revetments, groins, and breakwaters make navigation tricky because waves bounce back and forth resonating chaotically. hopefully this will not be the case tomorrow.

welcome to the club ponobill... picked up my rig back in april and it's practically replaced my car! recumbent tricycles are definitely the way to go. this oe suv/pedicab isn't anywhere near as fast as your rig but this "landslide" goes off-roading with ease! designed to bring along a few friends it would still have room for all the drinkables, grill, charcoal and edibles.

surprising how unforgiving the hammock mesh seats can be so the latest customization are some d3o panels for shock value. oh yeah! the best part about "flyin'" this vehicle is that you just lean to steer...

long story short...
we all won!
...because nobody was killed and a war (with the kiteboarders) was evaded.
