Love your enthusiasm SJ, but if you have to tell your PT at what level to work you, you are probably going to the wrong PT.

I’m 13 months past my RTC surgery (full thickness tear of my supraspinatus).  The only advice I would give you is to listen to your PT and Doc.  Everyone heals a little differently.  In my case, I’ve recovered full range of motion and pretty close to my pre injury strength.  For a 60 year old, I (and my ortho doc) consider myself lucky to say the least.

Hang in there fellow Geezers, lightweight/wearable/waterproof exoskeletons are right around the corner.  Several promising companies including Ekso, ReWalk, Cyberdyne and others...will be a billion $ market in just a few years.

That’s been my thinking too (since jumping on the sim-sup bandwagon with a custom infinity about 10 years ago).

I just picked up a 9’6” Infinity HPL (longboard) in the “less expensive PVC construction”.  From the outside it looks and feels very similar to my New Deal, but haven’t gotten out on it yet.  There is striking similarity to the Thunderbolt technology here. While I like to think that Infinity (Dave B) is the early innovator in this instance, there have been a lot of great surf-minds working on similar approaches to board building.

Although fine for surfboard fins, some "Bahne" boxes are actually glued together.  While perhaps not comparable to Spam or Bologna, Bahne boxes are likely more processed Prozzutini than a genuine Prosciutto.  As the Boars Head guy says, compromise elsewhere...

Dispensing with any notions that stand up paddling evokes visions of Laird shooting the pier at Malibu or Raimana taking a bomb at Teahupo'o, truth-is the "Supski" is probably closer to how stand up paddling appears to most onlookers.

Only need to look at the intro to realize that is a yeti - white furry face and all.  I may never sleep soundly again…😁

Here are some interesting thoughts on how EV's will be "taxed" (in lieu of fuel taxes) in the near term.  For any of you "Bean counters" out there.

Certainly a good start, but shouldn't the entire wall be padded?

Call ahead to see if you can store your board(s) with bell service.  Even if they say no, you might be able to deal with the bell team directly.

Some hotel's, like Hilton HV in Waikiki for instance, will not store boards.  But in Waikiki, regardless of where you stay, there is actually a great option with Nalu Storage further down the beach between the Royal Hawaiian and Dukes.  This nicely puts you closer to Queens and Canoes, if that's your thing.

For the last dozen or so years I've been using Kanulock, lockable tie-down straps.  They won't stop a fully motivated thief but might keep the casual sticky-fingers in their pockets. Definitely not for overnight in most places.

The ultimate in board-theft prevention is the ugly board.  Barring the ugly board, a sufficiently tatty board sock or bag may also be helpful.

As for mountain biking, SC might be right!  At 59, I'm usually one of, if not the oldest in the group.  ;D

Unlike Tesla (having sold more than 200,000 units), Rivian is still eligible for the $7,500 tax credit.

This is going to be a fun one to watch.  R1 series, truck, SUV soon, (maybe a van), Rivian/Ford partnership, Rivian/Amazon relationship (you can't have their van), likely R2 series...all this and a looming IPO too.

...Also any tips for strapping a 12' board to the top of your car? It was pretty sketchy last time I did it, and I had it strapped down enough to flex the bars.

When you strap a board to your racks make sure that the straps are perfectly vertical from where they leave the board to the rack.  If they are strapped on an angle, even though they might be tight as hell, once they slip vertical they will be slack.  Also make sure there is less board sticking out from the front rack than the rear rack (a 6" difference is usually plenty).

Technique / Re: Prone paddling out over breaking waves
« on: September 22, 2021, 11:36:55 AM »
There are times when prone paddling might make sense.  For instance in short period conditions (one after the other, rapid fire), when I get knocked down on the inside during a paddle out, I might opt to prone paddle the last few yards out to the line-up.  I like to place the face of the blade under my chest with the paddle shaft offset to one side but still worry about getting smacked when I break through.  I feel that this is faster for me than getting back to my feet, or even kneeling.
