Technique / Re: Confused on which rail to lean in order to paddle straight

That does makes sense.  At displacement speeds that the board tends to follow outline, but at planning speeds, the board wants to follow the rocker.

Hmm, so I may be doing this SUP thing for another 50 years…a new L41 SIMSUP at about $1500 to my door over 50 years; that’s only $30 a year!  Thanks 100 year old SUP lady! ;D

There may be a future in double paddles, they've been used in the Med for many years, but those swivel D handles just look plain goofy.  Kayakers must be pissing themselves watching this... :D

I've tried heat, solvents and scraping and in my case, scraping with a Bosch multi-tool with a straight scraper blade, followed by light sanding to 220 grit, gave the best results.

I have read on line that the statistical probability of an item getting damaged in shipment is 10% and if crated, it drops to 1%.  I would think that something a unwieldy as a paddleboard might be damaged more frequently.  But, for the sake of discussion, let's say it is a 10% probability.  So, what then is the statistical probability of damage to each of two shipped boards.  That would be  .10 X .10 = .01 or 1%.  Well, my first board was damaged in transit, so they are sending me another and double boxing it.  Should I feel good that my statistical chances are now much better and that they are boxing it better?  Or am I just doomed and trying to reason my way out of it?

Your probability would be the same (10% chance) for each event.

SUP General / Re: Actually "how does the line-up work" ?
« on: November 26, 2012, 04:19:34 PM »
Very true, but at some breaks, line up not only describes the best take off spot but may also refer to the actual surfers in a particular line up.  And, triangulation is sometimes referred to in the plural sense, as line up(s).

It's a bit different at every spot and sometimes different from day to day depending upon conditions and who is out.

In a perfect world we would all wait our turn at the peak but the laws of supply and demand makes this impossible.  The result is that a pecking order develops which can take a long time, in addition to the display of serious skill, to penetrate.

The best way to ease into a crowded line up is to paddle out with a regular on a light day and take your surfing seriously.  If you start missing waves, you will get dropped in on.   If you miss a wave, back to end of the line for you... ;D

SUP General / Re: Most dangerous wave on the west coast?
« on: November 20, 2012, 08:48:30 AM »
That's a great public message announcement Southwesterly, glad you got it under control.

We are certainly not immune from this on the east coast.  It would appear that anytime we have significant rain fall at the Jersey Shore we experience a big spike in bacteria and toxins especially near sewer outlets.  During the hurricane, circumstances necessitated the pumping-off of untreated sewerage adding to the normal bacteria levels.  This of course is only compounded by the recent high volume runoff from flooded land fills and superfund sites.  Geez, so much for my positive spin...

If that shop in CA is selling some or one super cheap, do you know if it is an attempt to screw the industry or a small business owner in a last ditch effort to save his @ss and feed his kids? I don't think anybody checked before they threw his info up online
[/quote]

I only pointed out the local shop to illustrate that lots of small businesses sell through Amazon.  Nothing wrong with that.

In this case the company liquidating the boards on Amazon is

Waveriders Surf Shop
675 Turquoise Street
La Jolla, California 92037

And not a "direct" Amazon sale. Nice find!

Thanks for the inspiration, that's a great way to go.  Finding a way to secure the board should not be a huge hurdle.
