Is liberty really about owning a semi-automatic weapon or a handgun?
Or is the true restriction of liberty not feeling safe enough to let you kids out to play, or sending them off to school without wondering if they're safe there?

It is intellectually dishonest to infer that these two choices are mutually exclusive.

Clearly there is a good deal of disagreement over what those rights are and how far they extend.

Your interpretation of our Constitution is getting in the way of our kids' ability to enjoy their unalienable rights from an older Declaration: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

Except, it is not "his" interpretation, but rather the latest interpretation of the Supreme Court.

This is such a polarizing issue, not just because so many Americans love guns, but also because our very liberty hangs in the balance.  You do not have to be a gun collector to realize that eroding the 2nd Amendment is a prelude for further restrictions on our liberties.

My understanding about the Futures base depth alernatives, 3/4" vs 1/2" was that it was simply to accomodate thiner tails (with shallower boxes).

I tried a set of Controllers a few months back on my 10' Icon and liked them alot.  They really do improve speed down the line on our NJ beach-breaks.  But I found the GL1's (the big GL set - I'm 205) even more to my liking; just about same speed down the line with just a bit more control.

I think the armed guard deal at schools is unrealistic...at least for public schools...so only the good schools will get the good guards? Not to mentions the quality of employee it would attract.

Not armed guards, but police officers.  Check out the SRO (School Resource Officer) programs that some schools have already successfully implemented.

SUPerSwede, you remind me why I don't enjoy spending more than a week at a time with my Scandinavian relatives.  Whenever someone begins a thought with "in your country" I know I'm in for a long night.

So, let me get this straight, on one hand you object to the tight rules of entry into the US and on the other want to tighten up gun control. Is that right?

Just because there are other ways to kill people, does that mean we should not control one that is obviously favoured?
That's really not a very good reason, is it?

Turn it around - since there are so many guns about and they are favoured by killers, should we ease up on dynamite sale regulation?

That's just silly S-Swede.

This is not a problem that will go away with a knee jerk reaction, law change.  As a society, we need to reevaluate how we are raising our children and pay closer attention to what they are exposed to.   We also need to find ways to provide meaningful security for our schools.

SUPerSwede, not many countries have "harder regulations" than your neighbor, Norway (my birth country).  And even with those strict gun regulations in place, not long ago, one of the world’s most tragic mass murders took place.

For many Americans, “Gun possession” is not the larger issue here; preserving the freedoms granted by the Constitution is.  Through the Second Amendment, our founding fathers wanted to ensure that we would have the ability to arm ourselves against our own government, if needed, by providing for state militias and individuals rights to bear arms.

We can't legislate mental illness away, the best we can do is help ensure access to personal security.     It would be great if we could refrain from publicizing the perpetrators, but not at the price of restricting the press.

Specifically for schools, I'm warming up  to the idea of utilizing SRO's (school safety officers) either off duty cops or part of regular patrol on school premises.  They provide at least three very important functions, enforcement, instruction, and mentoring.
