Futures and Fanatic base comparison

Here are a couple of Futures - large GL, 3/4" front 1/2 rear with a stock fanatic front fin in the middle for comparison. The 3/4 front Futures fits fine but the 1/2 rear is pretty deep and you will of course lose height and base unless you shim it.
One other thing to consider when using non-Fanatic fins is that there is significant cant built into the Fanatic side fin. A Futures would stand more perpendicular. The Multibox does provide for a great connection overall, and with the side screws, has eliminated the side to side play associated with Futures boxes especially the clones previously utilized by Fanatic. BTW, FCS fins are not exactly plug and play in this box. 20

From what I understand, the Allwave now has 3 Multiboxes - all 3 the same size and compatible with FCS, Futures and Probox (and possibly others) fins. Since 1/2" Futures also work in 3/4" futures boxes they should probably also work in the Multibox. (The 1/2" tab center will likely sit a bit deep.)
Shoot Jim K at Extreme Windsurfing a message, jim@extremewindsurfing.com he will know for certain. I just picked up a fresh 10 x 28.5 Stylemaster (2 Multiboxes + 1 US Box) from him, great deal and experience as always. 21
Random / Re: Electric Surf Vehicles in 2020« on: October 10, 2022, 08:08:24 AM »
Just keep in mind that when you consider total cost, currently there is no "road tax" on electric vehicles, but it's anyone's guess as to when that will change. ( I would guess between 5-10 years away but what do I know...)
In any event, "Currently, the federal tax on gasoline is 18.4 cents per gallon. The average state gas tax is 31 cents; it ranges from 8 cents per gallon in Alaska to 51.1 cents per gallon in California." CR 22

Great stuff SC! Has been a great couple of days up here too. Got some leftover shoulder high swell this morning, looking a bit smaller but should clean for tomorrow morning too!

SJ - those "empty" breaks are few and far between, good to enjoy when we can for sure.
SC - That Cannibal looks like it would be a lot of fun for chasing NJ summer surf. Looks like there might have been a little Vincent van Gogh influence in the colors (I didn't even know he surfed). 24

I would expect it to chip out like that, on the side that was compressed. The glass-fibers themselves look pretty normal and uniformly saturated. It's very possible that the fiberglass layer is cured before the wood veneer is added in which case there is no chemical-bond between the glass and wood laminations. On compression, the physical-bond is the first to give up the ghost.
If the rest of the board is in decent shape, it should be an easy buckle repair. 27

I've been diagnosed with BPPV in the past, and have had great results with various at-home positional maneuvers/exercises. If you happen to have BPPV, your Doc will show you some simple exercises to mitigate it. In the meantime, if you search on BPPV you will find a ton of information.

Yes, George Greenough "edge board" and Bob Simmons "Simmons shape" influence really make the most out of mushy waves. It's worth giving up a little maneuverability for speed. I actually like the loose/skatey feel of my Mini-Simmons.
Check out the new Infinity Wide Speed, probably checks most of your boxes. |
