Gear Talk / Re: JP surf pro vs fanatic prowave 8'0
« on: November 03, 2013, 03:05:07 PM »
Nothing against allwave but the jp rocks! I think its apples vs oranges, the jp is a ripper and is pretty stable at my 195 lbs. not my go to when it's really choppy I have an angulo 9'0 for that, it's more like the allwave. Jp 8 10 is the real deal for performance. I rarely ride the angulo but its a great board!

The starboard nose rider is a one dimentional board.   THe kings however is a very versatile board that is customizable and will come in differnet lengths and widths (and rocker)

as for being a good west coast board vs a good east coast board ummmmm......no.  I have a few friends in FLA that RIP on kings boards in all conditions on the EAST COAST. I have ridden a few custom Kings Nose riders and I found them to be awesome- that paddle unreal are stable and perform unreal.  I wanted to like the noserider from starby and simply did not.  Do your self a favor and talk to Dave Daum and get a Kings.  I have no affiliation with them by the way.

Good surfers are good surfers on the East and West coast. If a board is too skinny with too much rocker for that particular rider, they might need to get a board that suits them better especially when its choppy!
Again Kings are customizable!

SUP General / Visiting Santa Cruz In August
« on: July 19, 2012, 08:46:12 AM »

Hi there,
I am a fellow zoner that will be headed to west coast and will have a few days solo.  I'll be trying to  catch some surf and or do some paddling out in the s Cruz area August 13-15.
I have recently become the proud owner of L41 SimSup (the surf green one on his facebook page)which I love, so I'll be reaching gout to Kirk
for some advice too. I'll also reach out to the Angulo boys as well (met them at surf expo).
The Zone is so awesome, and I know there is a very active group here that live and surf in the area.  Any advise on where to surf, cheap hotels, cool places to eat have a few beers etc.?  I'll prolly have to rent a board & paddle as well-  any advise would be super helpful!  And of course any of you who are available to go for a surf wou,d be even better!

Thanks- can't wait to visit and will be praying for some fun surf.

Dave
