SUP General / North FL surf pics
« on: January 16, 2015, 02:47:48 PM »
Read the earlier posts about posting more more photos! We have a local guy that takes some great shots and does the report.  Here are a few from yesterday.
I'm lucky enough to now be living in the Jax beach area after being in Tampa for years and doing lots of driving for waves. Now its soooo much better!
Get to with surf with a few zone guys who are local sup ambassadors and pretty legendary guys JD and Tim.  Matt is on here as well, and Paul, all super guys!  Great scene, super nice people and some wind protected spots that make all the difference!

Sick looking boards!  Ed rocks, met him and Whit a few years ago at surf expo, great guys.  Tomo style board looks super sick. Got one on order w L41, can't wait!

You might want to wait for the victory at sea conditions to clean up some!  Then go w the board you can stand on and paddle over white water most comfortably! If you have doubts you might want to wait for it to clean up some.  Be safe.

As a low center of gravity guy myself,  or for anyone this rock solid style of surfing is something to be emulated! TC is legend.

Gear Talk / Re: Good, performance surfing SUP in the 10 foot range?

Actually have a 9'2" kings SS on order from Dave-

9'2"x 29.5x4.1 119 lt... Thin rails, gorgeous.... His boards rock. I'm more of a "short board" SUS guy but these boards do it all. A must have in your quiver especially for FL.    No affiliation w kings, but have met Dave and Rhonda and ridden a few of his boards in NFL.  They are top shelf!

I've had fun w the fcs qpc-7's. Very smooth and loose feeling but still do well w some size and chop. Had them on jp w body 8'2"and now on canniabal assasin 8'0", very fun!

Wasn't that i didn't believe you!  I've got a crv SUV and currently can get  my insanely rippable JP 8 2  and 8 10 pros inside very similarly to your ride.

I'm planning on getting a kings noserider in the next few months from Dave D. I want to go as long as I can and still get in car.  I have racks but if I bring multiple boards like to have option of finding shade and locking unridden board(s) inside car.  Good option to have.

I was thinking I would be limited to a 9 6 but your seriously making me wonder! Thanks for the pics.

I'll have to do some recon in jax beach borrowing longer boards to see what all i can squeeze inside

Cheers
D

It would not surprise me if Slats after retiring from asp at least adopts sup and becomes ambassador....thoughts?. Trust me coming from cocoa he gets it.... new company?....he gets it and will embrace sup!  It's happening!

Nicaragua last year.  Basically trying not to mowed down by the sets!

I've done wider and shorter as well. Think I have a good balance now- 2 JP's 8 10 x30 thinish rails amazing in surf w some shape. Then wide body 8'2" for the rest. Think I'm set for a bit!

Great thread

SUP General / Interesting random thought from ex short-boarder in FL
« on: March 17, 2014, 08:46:45 PM »
Completely random-

If you were an alien or complete foreigner to anywhere where any kind of surfing took place (boogy, knee, kayak, short, long board, sup). How long would it take you to realize that (after watching without any prompting) that SUP (without having to be a total wave hog) is by far the most FUN! Most options at a break, best view point, mobility, best workout for the buck (I. Sure Ive missed 30 others).

As a long time east coast short boarder in (LI, NC,FL) if you don't get it I'm done trying to convince you with words....People,are gonna see some great surfing on sups in the next few years by rippers of all ages.  It will be hard to deny the fun factor and rippability of poor/fair all the way up conditions.

We are all way ahead of the curve:)

Cheers,
Dave
