SUP General / Re: How did you get into SUP?« on: April 17, 2012, 02:19:10 PM »
Ha ha, Luke Foley got me into it. In fact that is me in his video (other thread) at 4:30. Something like my 10th time ever on any kind of surfboard.
I am coming from a rough water sea kayak/ surf kayak background. Got sick of all the "stuff" and gear that is involved in kayaking, love the simplicity of SUP. 588

I got interested in ring training about two years ago. After looking around for rings to buy I decided to go with 1 foot diameter rope rings (actually called grommets in the nautical world). They're made from inch and a half, 3 strand manila rope hung from cam buckle straps. They are sold on a few strength websites for as much as $150/ set. Wow! So I made my own for about 70 bucks including straps. This is the set I made using these directions http://scouting1659.org/minnow/doc/minto/HOW%20TO-%20Make%20a%20Rope%20Grommet.pdf
and a 12 foot piece of rope. 589
Downwind and Racing / Re: Cape Cod downwinders...who's in?« on: March 26, 2012, 02:14:02 PM »
Hey Bob,
I'd be totally into doing that. I am coming from a sea kayaking background and am just getting into SUP. I am totally hooked, like crack. I have been surfing all winter but want to start doing some flat-ish water (you know what I mean) paddling. I am in Westport, not too far away. Keep me posted. Thanks 590

That is not only a cool wave to surf but apparently the first confirmed worm-hole found on earth.

The China one looks like there are about half a billion people there.
