SUP General / Re: Is there SUP Surf life after 70?

100% Ricky!

have high expectations of yourself,
Don't accept norms
Step outside your comfort zone!
Pushing the limits is how to keep performance up, long past where most expect you to slow down.

Just remember when you walk over the dune, you will not be winded from the journey needing a 'Big Gulp' and a nap.  Age provides the opportunity to develop character not necessarly needed when young. Press on!

Loudoun,  I've had the fin mentioned in this 2011 posting for ??? (Red in color)  ...it also lacks a screw. If you'd like to simply try it send me a PM.  It's yours to test for the cost of postage.

Perhaps most already know... But, we in the States do not get a full replay of the AC finals on the America's Cup channel via YouTube.  I used it to record British TV series we did not get here, but had not used it in a long time.  I just logged in and 'relocated' to Copenhagen ...and NOW I can record the full race replay, rather than highlights, to watch at home (no cable access) using the Audials program that copies virtually any form of video or audio.

Bean may have politely led you somewhere...  This is worth a listen or read

Somewhat off the the immediate post, but I do not think anti-vaxers or anti-mask'ers should get the vaccine. Sadly, the effects of plagues are often foisted upon the truly poor and igorant, whereas the 'proudly ignorant' often suffer little. Even stupid politics enter into this; I imagine Trump not wanting to look like a Lefty wuss to his herd ...hiding the fact that he got his vaccine in January.

In thinking back, after Fool's comment...  I remember kites in the early 2000s falling out of the sky if you were trying to 'ghost' downwind, praying for a lighter canopy, but a 'static' wing as he mentions seems less an issue.  Taking FLkiter's lead - I would probably better off have a duplicate while waiting for AIRTIME to finish my repair during peak season. Buying a second when someone "upgrades" seems a good season-saver move.

BTW...  Where is his camp or operation in MEX?

Could Slingy have picked a better brand manager/rep for wings?!  There were surprisingly few views of this podcast, but Wyatt Miller is just a fount of positive stoke. That was really refreshing.

It's the first time I have heard of him.  I love the emphasis on the intuition of kids and their natural adoption of anything that looks simple and fun.

VB...  I quickly found/bought an old BIC One Design after trying a 10-0 x 32 SUP and then hearing about 'daggerboards'. I got rid of the straps and added more non-slip. It was nice and wide with a swinging daggerboard. Yeech?!

It turns out - my 27" x 12-6 wave-shape SUP worked quite well. (I figgered it too narrow early on.) There's enough rocker so you can bury the upwind rail a tick and the shape automatically crawls upwind just fine.  At a luxurious rate.

I doubt people will be much satisfied with a SUP and a wing, Juan.  It is kinda schleppy for an $800. addon to a SUP - even a good one.  It is like drinking cold tea.  It is the foil/wing combo that could be the slow death of kites.  There are so many things in favor of this new option vs kites. ...kite jumpers will begin to notice new moves.

My sense, in the performance area anyway, the market is pretty inelastic. There are only so many hardcore waterfolk. At least here, there has been no observable massive increase in total numbers of any option.  Songe, like casual windsurfing, is history.

The Shape Shack / Re: Cutting stainless....

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate 'nice tools', but this little work-around was $40.  I may have to toss it after a few hours but I also cannot see needing it very often. It was already a dust collector.  I have two chop saws (little & big) for tube - so infrequently used to not warrant an expensive blade.  I really dislike HF, but sometimes a cheap tool beats the expense and wait for a job shop or site visit.  I search Amazon before I drive 3min. to HF.

I am building a castor'ing nosewheel for my beach cart and had some 16 gauge SS sheet...  I tried an air cutoff saw, then a die grinder but could not cut a half-azz'd straight line if my wife depended upon it.  It turns out standard 4" cutoff wheels work well and this tracks like a skill-saw in wood.  ....plus, lickity-split compared with the other tools.

I did not have any fancy cutting oil ...but Canola oil seemed to work Ok to help keep it cool.  This saw is from, 'trow-it-out', Harbor Freight.  I have not thrown it out in 15+yrs, so I must have not used it much.  I put this up - because I had not seen it done before. (I am sure I am not the first...)  I don't want to be there, but I would bet it would work well for FRP also.

There's a couple of tables set up under a canopy just to the right in this camera's view.  I cannot imagine any tourist not being chill enough to require a massage?!  I'd also like to bring saddles and rent horses for a week or so. Just sitting around—I can do at home.

When you get the time, NEF... also chronicle the ins/outs of traveling during Covid in the travel section here.  We used to have a Saturday in/Saturday out direct flight from Baltimore. It has been off the schedule for a while.
