Rasta,   Wow... you certainly were not 'Shaky Jake' on that 9.6  I don't know if I'd like SUPing at Tiffany's there with them jewel-colored waves  ..it looks like an awful long paddle back out.  Lucky you.

Rules/Laws. etc. are tough for the people who have to enforce them.  If you were off loading a virtually sterile and odorless liquid on a wall in an alley at 3am in NYC is it the same crime as doing it at 10am?  They may send the nice folks who dealt with Rodney King if you back down some lowly lifeguard.

...."They know how to do it."  Funniest line of the day...

Spook,  ...like Axe said; "I wouldn't want to just open it up to just anyone coming and whacking away." ...schlubs are people reading an announcement on Craigslist or simply heard about a meet-up and think this would be a cheap outing for their six kids.

I'd define it as: "You gotta bring one - to try one."

Great idea Axe,  ..a 'Try my board' day.  A few of us did an impromptu "Take-my-leash." session in the lineup last summer but we were pretty well known to one-another.   I can personally attest; 'Buy-to-try' is not a good way to build a quiver... so a 'Paddle and Sniff' day could be really useful.

..but how do you screen out the schlubs who had nothing better to do that day?  I'd only really want people who already paddle, or people I know to paddle mine...

Before I head home about 6pm Eastern.. I check the morning swell at Currumbin, Rainbow Bay, D'bah.. etc. in OZ.

No-way-in-hell I would sit on a plane to go there, but I can appreciate why folks in OZ can get so good; they get lots of great practice and have tons of options.

The Cocoa Pier in FL is a closer option.  Here's the cheater cam..  and a slightly irregular, but good surf report.

NJS,  ...'click to enlarge' this shot.  There are lots of nice, individual elements in this photo.  Good one.

In every sport I have ever participated in, even riding horses ..someone always tries to make an 'all-things-to-all people'  product.  They are often sold, but rarely loved.  This particular board looks clunky to my untrained eye.

Carib,  That deserves a 'feature' posting itself.  Well done, eh?!  Unlike the usual surf-puff you get from the likes of Quik & Co. this guy seems born of human parents and lives a life like many.  He may not always win a contest but a mensch like him will never finish last.

Icky,  I know, with the shingles it looks like I'm Ipswitch but this Assateaque Ntl. Seashore just a few minutes S. of Ocean City, MD.  It's a miniature Hatteras. ..great for kiting and flat water but oceanside does not break as well as HAT.

Big, You don't need to tote a board if you pass thru here, I'll always have something to paddle. I'm about 2+hrs. due S. of Philly. It's out of your way, but youse are more than welcome.

Unlike Creek and some of you more hearty types, I have been off the water for four months.  Fortunately, our bayside water warms very quickly ..with the ocean still in the low 40's.

I wanted to round out a quiver with a long waterline, flat water board.  The internal rationalization was: 'longer the waterline - better the glide'.  With a bit of advice from D-J, I picked this model.  I prefer simple, fluid lines and this board well satisfies that aesthetic. It has more than plenty of float for my 185lbs.

I was a little nervous but the board is quite stable.  It is tippy enough to keep you interested but no threat.  It truly does have the glide I was looking for.  Compared to the rounded, flat noses of other 11+ft boards I have paddled this knife edged, plumb stem is seductive to watch cut water.  I figure I can keep a sort of rhythm by maintaining a bow wave.  As it was the first time with a new board and not having paddled for months.. I simply found a forward trim spot to get the nose down and log in a great first session.  I stayed out of the wind and chop so do not know how it will handle sloppy conditions.

12.6 is cumbersome to handle ..so I am glad I did not look for a 14'.  You gotta have more than my four eyes! The tail and nose are magnets for things sticking out wanted to make contact.  If there is a big negative, Surftech's painted surface is brittle and fragile as hell. This is not a board for fussy types who will freak out at dings and scratches.  I added 3M helicopter tape on the rail but did not go far enough forward; a half dozen battle scars resulted.

I was also anxious to try both a new paddle from Ke Nalu and Larry Allison's, John Becker fin.  Rather than cut the paddle, I thought I would try it full length first ..too long. The Ke Nalu is smooth compared to my Methane. I do not know if it characteristic of the Methane, or my trying to muscle it, but I get a wobble when I work it hard.

My fear about the fin was that it would be too directional; I might not be able to turn the board. It turns fine ..maybe with a little wider swing than the JM fin, but I am 'reaching' to find a difference.   I will report back as I know more.  My season started yesterday!

Nacho,  I had a very hard time getting rid of my '07 North Rhinos.  I tried all sort of brands after them and never found three-of-a-size-same-brand that matched their versatility and range.  I sold everything after 11years of it.  I need new skills/challenges; I found it here.  Cheers.

I first thought the transition was kinda cool.. in a 'F-the-Man' sort way, but I am left with the feeling that he may have rather kept the 12cyl Beemer and the mansion. The change may not have been a choice; he may have lost privileges and his license.  Remember he could not recognize faces?  "Prosopagnosia can result from stroke, traumatic brain injury, or certain neurodegenerative diseases."

He may be in his little apartment on disability because all hell broke loose in his brain.  Payments on the mansion stop suddenly when they pull your ticket.  Lotsa people live over their heads... even the ones that appear really tall.  Other than living in S.D., I end up feeling sorry for him.
