I wanted a board to carry my dog.  I had a 12' Laird Wood but it was too pretty and fragile to become the bed of a pickup.  I looked at another board made in the same area as the Tahoe ..a local dealer had in his rental fleet. It appear to have been shaped with a handsaw. I'm sure it was stable enough, but was butt crude after having boards made by real surf craftsmen. This ain't bad.

It's got a little rocker .. a little V .. softish rails.  I didn't like the look of the nose - it was like they couldn't decide?!  The tie downs are handy because Tahoe makes 'Buddy Pads' for dogs.  They are quite decent, non-skid/two side and are simply and securely attached.

The board is 12-0 x 30 x 5 @ 269 liters.  Scales at 28lbs/12.7kg  ...my 12-6 Jamie-Mitchel by Surftech is 32lbs (the Wood Laird was 36+)   It has softer deck rubber than the typical SUP with EVA, but less area ..I guess they don't expect you're doing pylon turns.

The one really cheezy factory item is the fin - POS injection molded crapus.  I put in a swept fin because at low tide there are a lot of shells on the bottom and I felt I had a better chance of riding-over vs. digging-in.  The problem I created: it tracks waaaaay too well.  The board was a bitch to turn from the center position.

Paddling was a pleasant surprise.  Putting the stick to it, the bugger moves out.  The cutting bow looks better looking down as it carves the chop.  It was gusting into the low 20s so it really wasn't very much fun to be on the windward side of the bay. Shallow water chop directly abeam was all rock-n-roll but the board was very happy nose-to or downwind.  When I got in the lee of a small island I felt the board has really decent speed. It's not just a dog-hauling-barge.

Unlike the dealer's board for about the same money, this came with a carbon/plastic paddle, XM lease and two Buddy Pads, and foam racks.  I turned down the PFD.  It had a couple of small dings that I cleaned up.

My only advice to someone buying a used board is find out the mfg.'s weight spec and carry a bathroom scale. Expect dings, but you do not want someone else's waterlogged barge.

I'm impressed with the camera work and music...  'not so much with the prospect of landing a personal jet.

Board Stiff says; "It was amazing how rock solid the board felt with the inside rail slicing along the steep face of the wave, and the outside rail just suspended over the water below!"

Also a happy surprise with my 9-5 Speeed. In our pitchy shore break a long ride may/might/could exceed 10sec.  Most of the other bulky railed boards had me in the pit all too soon.  I was actually able to hold a high line with the Speeed before being slapped into chum.

(I don't think I will ever get two feet on the C/L ..I tried it on flatwater -- Oh No!)

Nicely done Clay.  I half expected the cam to look like the flag at the end of a F1 race with that lever arm so far off center, but it was nice and quiet. Good one.

Beasho,  I don't know how you guys do it.  Sneakers would not stop my testicles from shrinking into my pelvic cavity.

....if you like sleeveless ..and feel like a triathlete, how's $79?

I got two of their full suits on a similar promotion. Cut one into a Spring.   100% smoothie ..5mm legs with thinner body parts ..very well constructed.  I gather these swimmers like the extra float thicker rubber legs provides.

Comfortable and fit perfectly (I still get one size larger than normal) but have an odd characteristic: their smoothie is very soft (for flex probably) but fingernails tear it easily.  I use a pair of gloves and silicone the inside of the suit before I slide it on. Super glue handles the dings.

Starman...  "drop you off and park itself" ..the few times I have driven along the coast of CAL this feature would seem to be really useful.  The question; how far away from the beach would it have to go to not see 'Locals Only Parking'?  Still, I think I'd prefer difficult parking to what we have: easy parking/s_itty breaks.

Matuse, 2mm Spring.. You know it's on, but not much. Not overly decorated.  I'm 5-11/185 and needed XL-Short to feel comfortable.  Often have decent discounts in their 'Vintage' section.

Any chance it's MEX microbes in the water?  There's lotsa countries SOB that directly flush everything

We did too; I was on a concrete gang in the 60's working on a steel wire plant north of Chicago and they had large acid vats draining directly into Lk. Michigan. Careful.

Checking the Jensen Beach cam...  three blue umbrellas (L-center) ..just above, two people relaxing while one ..or perhaps even two! ..people are balanced atop an umbrella pole on a shortboard.  Must be some visiting Yogi.  Those two underneath appear really relaxed. Amazing.

I sure as hell would not want to be on the hook for Tom's nephew's $80k in the form of Free College (..and I would expect, like Pepsi in Iraq, the price would quadruple when the Gvmt. was directly/contractually obligated)  Someone, other than the people taking his $80k, has to be able to evaluate these immature borrowers.  His ROI is actually dramatically less than $250 a week ..he had four (I assume) years of no income production.

If that $80k was was in the S&P for four years after 2012 there would be $130k in the bank...   I hear all that business about how much more 'over a lifetime' a Degree is worth, but I'd be willing to bet they only measure above the median.  It's like Bernie Madoff is in charge of American Education.

There really needs to be more Darwinism.  It seems as if everyone these days thinks they deserve Special Olympics treatment.  I frankly like there is -not yet- forgiveness on these student loans. Maybe at least the next generation will hear about potential rapids downstream while doing their tubing trips thru college.

Interestingly, I tend to hinge at the pelvis if my knees are somewhat bent vs a Japanese bow if knees locked.  Seems obvious, but this sclerotic brain had to feel it...  Back to shorter paddles.

EB,  It appears the Chinese have also clamped down. ...besides, I might need that $4k for the oncologist or cardiologist.   ..and I do have a good scale.  Thankfully, SUP has helped shave 10lbs off me.  Thanks.

"It helps me to know we gave the little guy a great life, and he loved it."  ...I'd like to think I could say that for the last three.  They all come to work (executive privilege) with me. The bad news is that I can't realistically rent a house in Panama for a couple of months.. (my wife and four friends are there now..)  The new guy, a Golden Doodle rescue is perhaps the nicest sentient being I know.  Good ones remind you to be like them rather than reactive.  Sorry to hear when a good dog dies.
