Ya, it keeps going Rick...  I rather like long-form reporting they do on weekends, but this one is a little stretched.

' Sad it happened, but I'm glad you were not there to see it.  I would imagine it would be like seeing a kid run over by a bus - the image would never leave you.  Stay safe.

I was jes' Youtubing and came across some bloke in Northern Canada who got this 'Starlink'?!   O'lie C'hit!  I could not get my $99. deposit in fast enough. I gather I may be somewhere south on the list of a reported 500,000 preorders, but I cannot get broadband soon enough. (I have to come to town to record movies and carry home in USB sticks.)

I am within 100mi of the Whitehouse as the crow flies, and have been hostage to crappy wire phones, 1-bar cell service, DISH network and Hughes Net for contact with the outside.

Here's a cool sat porn:  https://starlink.sx    Go to the cross symbol on the upper right to set your home base.

This is Rick's backyard ...and the podcast gives a nice overview what he bravely paddles into.

I'm not the brightest flashlight in the drawer, but I see; 'I had fun. I can surf.'  I guess the same lineup attitudes prevailed when the Morey Boogie was introduced ...when guys like me could stall and chase down waves with a kite. ..when old guys on SUPs sat outside and snaked every decent wave that showed up. (we had a guy here — big, maybe early 50's, who picked the most popular break at the federal beach and dominated it) I see guys on 'Tour quality' bikes and colorful lycra, but I have an old mtn bike I use on our country road and enjoy my rides.

I got a request for more pics of the wing.  Here are a few low-rez so I do not burden our hosts too much.  Higher rez, or any other specifics are available on request. I am running a bit slow at the moment...

This is a 1020 wing with two masts, two fuselages, tail, mounting plate, mast adaptor, full hardware kit, and covers for all. ' Great shape - no hard contacts. (added fluro tape to wing/tail as I tended to walk into it in shallow water)

$950   ..and I will split the cost of shipping within the U.S. (...nearly 20lbs!)

Good for you, Rick!   I picked that spot for myself about 4yrs ago.  I just could not justify half my vacation waiting for/making connections from here...

I told my wife; If MEX was as mellow as the people are nice and good as the food, we Yanks would be the ones climbing over The Wall to live there. I could see 2X weekly 'Medicare' flights to Sand Deigo or LA.

Have fun for all of us...

There was a young (from a distance) foilsurfer on the afternoon of the Sep. 7 just killing the lineup inside the rocks.  If he didn't convert half of the  20 other surfers nobody could.  I  saw him with a regular surfer on a wave and not only did he get the inside reform, but spun around and pumped back out before that surfer could catch his breath and start to paddle.   No matter the discipline, it is always fun to watch talent.

There were two out in the rocks at ~11 am Tamarindo time on 3 Sept.  At least one was catching reforms on the inside for some very long (to my eye) rides.

Food... It would take <20 minutes to I.D. a half dozen mfgrs. on Made-in-China and let their 'shapers' cut-n-glue them for you. Then, give reps quotas so they force them, along with key chains and beer koozies, on retailers who will mark them down for clearance.  They may be a little late to the party, but it's a win for China and corporate.

I would guess 90% of the visitors here have seen this from Feb 2009, but good humor never ages.  He takes on SUP at 2:38, but watch the whole thing; it's therapeutic.

Me too... Winger.  That's a rare bird.   Yeech on the van.  We had a similar vintage Dodge to pull my wife's horse trailer.  We even did a marathon drive to Surf Expo hauling all our c'hit in it.  It was like a beer can with a Briggs and Stratton V8 in it.

Bean, I sure don't envy you little guys with rentals...  It used to be thought of as a way of 'enhancing your retirement'.  It becomes a catch-22 ...they sure as hell are not going to have 6 mos. of payments on day 181?!

This pop'd up on AXIOS this morning. (Aug 4)

"Americans collectively owe over $10 trillion for their homes — and a sizable share of that balance (44%) originated in the past year.

Why it matters: The fresh data point — courtesy of the New York Fed — illustrates the historic mad dash to buy new homes or refinance existing mortgages. The last time the share was bigger was about 15 years ago, on the heels of the mortgage refinancing boom in the early aughts.

It's partly explained by a tidal wave of refinancing. Borrowing costs plummeted to record lows — and homeowners rushed to lower mortgage payments. That shows up as a whole lot of new mortgages.

Then there's skyrocketing home prices: The more expensive the home, the higher the dollar amount per borrower.
What they're saying: "The combination of that refi activity and a strong purchase market last year continuing into this year — there's a lot of volume turning over," says Mike Fratantoni, an economist at the Mortgage Bankers Association."

Waking up old is not always fun, but it is easier if you are well-rooted and Medicare is there to intercept incoming.
