Sessions / Nice day in Southampton!
« on: June 16, 2014, 04:11:02 PM »
There's been a fun swell in the water with nice conditions for a few days now!
Also trunked it! Water still in low 60's but with the warm air not a problem  :)

SUP Gear Reviews / Newly Acquired / On Order / New baby girl 12 lbs
« on: October 10, 2013, 06:02:41 PM »
Skip Smith custom, 7'8" x 31"  :P
12 lbs with deck pad, a little Monster traction spay and a small amount of rail tape.
Hopefully I will get her out once the wind and weather settle down. Skip used a new Glasser, it is lighter than my 8'6" by 5 lbs. hope it holds up as well!
Lots of fins options, will try it out as a twin, twinzer, thruster, nubster +++?
Lots of concave, bevels, stinger winger and step deck which gets the rails thinned out nice!
Will keep you posted on how she rides?  :-*

Gear Talk / SUPreme wetsuit leg drainage??
« on: October 01, 2013, 11:49:21 AM »
Do the new SUPreme wetsuits have a drain vent on the lower leg, so your lower leg doesn't balloon full of water?
Thanks,

SUP Gear Reviews / Newly Acquired / On Order / L41 yes another one

I've been waiting to post, so I could give a fair review. If the waves are semi decent, the board rips! In the heavy chop it is still a little work for me, but I can manage ok. It might not be a quiver killer, but it has worked in everything so far this summer, slow and mushy and fast and hollow. It's only been out in just over head high and smaller so far. It does pick up speed so fast, when I move my back foot on the kick pad it will carve, slid or snap depending on the wave. It definitely has a short board feel, not a nose rider. Going over waves it is decent, not fantastic. Chasing down waves ok, but prefers to be facing an on coming waves and spun into position with a few quick strokes and your off. To compare it to my Coreban Vibe 8' 0" the Vibe was more stable, paddled faster, but doesn't turn as quick or sharp. This board is able to stay in a small pocket A frame type waves and gets moving super fast on lined up waves and can make sections with ease. It needs to be slowed down at times, because it will out run the wave faster than you can blink.
My deck is a little soft with some pretty good dents on either side of the handle and I do have to stand a little further up on the board than I am use to. It was built with S-glass no carbon, 15 lbs.

The board is 7'9" x 30 1/4" x 4 1/2" 120 ltrs. I weigh in at 165 ish, I'm 54, 5'10" and surfed since I was 7 yrs. old, SUSing for 3.

In clean surf I could defiantly go smaller, but in choppy no, I could, but would be worn out in no time. At least here on the East Coast and all the side chop, back wash and cross swells etc.
To round out my quiver, I would like a little bigger SIMSUP 8' ish for junk waves and a ripper HP 8'4" x 28" or so for the bigger clean days, just wishing now!

Gear Talk / Riviera Bump Paddle
« on: June 23, 2013, 03:18:32 AM »
I have some tendonitas in my elbow and dodgie shoulders as a result of being a golf pro 25 years +. I have a KeNalu Downwider, which I love, and have owned KIALOHA Methane, ShakaPuu, and Werner Nitro paddles. So far the KeNalu had been the best on my body due to the smaller grip and flex in the shaft. I'm not trying to compare just passing on my humble opinion.
The Riviera Bump has a good swing weight, a very comfortable ergo T style grip and an easy to grip shaft!
I found that it helps me track straight, with more equal strokes per side. Usually I can take 20 percent more strokes on my right side due to being a regular foot rider in a surf stance. Usually when I switch to my left side I tend to yaw a lot quicker, I had been working on correcting that every time I paddle by try to improve my entry angle and blade cant. I noticed right away when paddling the Bump that I was making almost equal strokes per side, didn't know why exactly but I liked it! So far it has been very easy on my shoulders and elbow. I hope this helps anyone who might be interested. I am not affiliated in any way just passing on my thought.
