Gear Talk / Re: New inflatable sup's?

I've been meaning to bring that up myself. I think it would be a great idea given that there's such a distinction with inflatables.

Would it be silly to suggest a separate category in the forum dedicated to inflatables?  It would sure beat searching for keywords everytime...

Admin?  Any thoughts?

So did the electric inflator from Uli ever come out?

I've noticed that everywhere I paddle, there seems to be dive shops nearby. I thought using a small tank with a regulator/valve gizmo with safety blow-outs to prevent overinflation would be a viable option. Anyone know of such an option that can be used with a tank?

Just got back from SWF myself last night. "Coldest" summer trip I've experienced out there yet with the high cloud coverage from Debbie keeping the summer heat away and making for perfect paddling conditions all day long, at least until the rain/wind deluge began couple days ago  :'( .  This part of the U.S. is definitely a SUP touring mecca and shouldn't be missed, especially with the availability of rentals from SUP shops now showing up there.

Also paid a visit to the Keys and did some paddling there as well. Photo of Pennekamp mangroves with my son...

Gear Talk / Any tried and true electric inflators out there for ULI's?
« on: April 16, 2012, 08:03:26 PM »
I tried the Sea Eagle Electric Turbo Pump with Battery, but the valve adapter they provide wasn't compatible with the ULI valve. That was unfortunate as it seemed like a good product with both a turbine and a piston-pump, allowing it to reach higher pressures than the other electric pumps out there.  I wasn't a fan of the battery, though. Wish the thing just plugged into a 110V outlet.

Unfortunately I fried my right elbow inflating my two ULI's on our family  summer vacation last year. Still dealing with it and it appears that manual inflation is going to be out for good for me  :(

Gear Talk / Re: Best inflatable board (10.6 - 11 +)
« on: July 09, 2011, 04:16:32 PM »
A month ago I purchased two new Uli's (10 ft Steamroller and 11 ft.) for a family trip to Florida. They set me up with the two boards, leashes, paddles, and travel bags.  They were responsive to my emails, had what I needed in stock, one click, and shipped it out right away.  The quality of the boards and manufacturing appears excellent, and all the boaters we passed who stopped to say hello were blown away when we told them the boards were inflatables.  We had a total blast paddling around all over with me and one kid on my board, the wife and the other kid on her board.  A pretty expensive purchase, but seen as a family investment as we will take these anywhere we go where there's water...up or down the coast, the river, lakes, etc.  My only regret is that I didn't think to ask Jim to glue some tie-downs on to the board...which brings to mind another great thing about the company - the fact that you can communicate directly with the main dudes and that they are willing to do custom work.

SUP General / Advice for SUPing in SW Florida?
« on: June 08, 2011, 09:51:59 PM »
Been going there for years, but this time I'm bringing a couple Uli's to enjoy with the family.  I've never had any problems with Things That Eat People in the past, but then again I haven't been out poking around in the rivermouths and mangroves on a SUP, an inflatable one at that.  I imagine most of our paddling will be up and down the north end of Bonita Beach, up towards Lover's Key, and maybe parts of Estero Bay by Hickory Island.  I perused Google Earth and noticed a couple of alligator photos  ??? . The one by Estero river mouth wasn't as surprising as the one in the middle of Lover's Key.  Thanks in advacne for any advice or input suggested.

Gear Talk / Recommendations for 3-piece travel paddle?
« on: June 03, 2011, 08:51:54 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to buy two 3-piece travel  paddles to use/transport w/Uli Boards.  Seems the Werner Nitro CF is a top choice, but I'll be paddling with kids, close to shore, exploring/touring, probably hitting and pushing off of rocks occasionally, etc.  Will Werner's "bomber durability" hold up to that? Primary use in So Cal and SW Florida.  Any recommendations? Thanks in advance for any advice offered!
