I've been regular surfing since I was a kid and just started stand up surfing a couple months ago and I'm totally hooked on this thing. The strange thing is that I've never been much into longboards. Anyway, I was wondering how many long-time hard core surfers on this forum have totally quit regular surfing to do stand up surfing only? And if you have quit regular surfing, what is it about SUS that made you quit the other?

Thanks
Steve

The first casualty of war is the truth so this is the kind of stuff that sadly is never reported in corporate media. A 15 minute google search should find you lots of stuff about this.

It makes a lot of sense and thank you. Its more about moving the back foot over a little to the left rail. Do you use the paddle at all during a cutback?

Where do you score?

I have always considered myself as a conservative who is uneasy about the alliance between the GOP and the evangelical Christians, but now I realize I am a libertarian.  I am against waste and government handouts, but not a conservative in the sense of resisting change.  I want my government out of my wallet and out of my bedroom.  Where the hell is the libertarian party?

That used to be called the Nolan Chart. I used to carry a little Nolan Chart in my wallet which always made for interesting conversation over a beer. I'm a Libertarian according to that chart but it needs to be updated to include those of us that no longer believe in having any kind of state.

The Libertarian party was squashed just like all non-status quo third parties in this country by the clone republicrat/demican machine. If you paid even a little bit of attention to Ron Pauls campaign then you would have seen how shameful it was the way he was treated by the corporate press-titutes and the RNC. The RNC stole several of the primaries from him. Very sad but not surprising, hence the reason why the Ron Paul republicans (15%) said "FUCK YOU!" to Romney by staying home on election day. Yeah, thats the dirty little secret for at least one of the reasons why Romney lost such a close election. Gary Johnson ran this time as Libertarian and got from .07% to as much as 3.5% in the states. The last time a Libertarian presidential candidate did as well was in 1980. Too bad Ron Paul didn't come out and officially endorse Gary Johnson. Not that it would have made a difference to the donklephant machines outcome but at least it would have helped to create a little more of an awareness that there is something beyond the two clone candidates.

Gulf could have been justified as liberating a friendly country from an aggressive one, but it was mostly justified by oil, not much of a justification considering had we done nothing, the world oil supply would have stayed stable and slowly increased as Iraq used the newly acquired ports to ship their oil.

Did you know that the reason Iraq invaded Kuwait was because Kuwait was ripping off Iraqs oil by slant-drilling into Iraq? So as usual, all the reasons politicians tell us to justify their wars, and their lackeys in media report, were pure unadulterated bullshit.

No it wouldn't....see the edit to that post. What costs more, trying to stop or maybe slow down the spread of Islamists or waiting until they can truly challenge the west?

I used to think that way too Bob. I'm embarrassed to admit that I had a brief time in the early to mid 2000's where I swallowed "they hate us because we're free" propaganda. Murdering hundreds of thousands of innocent people tends to piss them off Bob. You'd be pissed off too if China or some other country invaded the US and started bombing the shit out of everything and killing family members and friends of yours. The reasons we are told that the US is meddling and conducting mass murder in the mid-east are bullshit and until you discover that for yourself then you will continue to except these lies. The best way to start is by turning off CNN, Fox, MSNBC and all other state/corporate controlled media because they are all lying to you about whats really going on.

You want to stop all wars.......institute a new draft.....compulsory military service for all....no exclusions.....a step further....make it mandatory that all politicians children must serve in the military in front line units. Do that and war is history. At least our immediate and constant involvement.

Then when evil rears, up as it will, and nobody steps forward to stop it.....you better hope evil thinks you have a use.... :'(

I get your point but its immoral to force anyone to do anything against their will. Your ideas though, and also the one of taxing everyone NOW for the true cost of these wars instead of enslaving future generations with debt would end these wars immediately.

It's sure easy to sit back here and condemn those grunts that are keeping your ass safe. For me, I respect everyone of them and I WISH they didn't have to be there.

Keeping our asses safe from what? The inevitable blowback from 11 years of murdering hundreds of thousands of foreign persons and destroying their infrastructures? As I said in a previous comment, doesn't the fact that the US is arming, funding, and working with Al Queda in Libya and Syria make you just a little suspicious of their justification for these perpetual wars?

Also, you previously said you wish they didn't have to be there but there is no draft which means they don't have to be there.

Did you read the part where he said he was a Vietnam vet?  Back then there WAS a draft so for many, THEY DID have to be there or go to jail.  As to now, whether or not someone chooses to join up or not, the moral issue of whether or not we the U. S. should be involved in the wars were in do not rest on the shoulders of those who are fighting in it(them).  That distinction goes to the powers that be who sent us there.  Many Iraq and Afghan vets in retrospect do not feel we should have been there either.  Some do, some don’t.  In the case of some, they were already active duty at the time we got into these conflicts.  I was on a routine deployment when 9/11 happned so we steamed out to the coast of Pakistan.  Again, hate the war but not the warrior.

Yes I did read that he was a Vietnam vet but when he said he "wished they didn't have to be there" I think he was referring to the soldiers now that have enlisted voluntarily, which assumes he still believes these wars (Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and soon to be Iran) have been done for some noble cause when that isn't the case. And yes I am aware there was a draft which is why I said that since there isn't a draft that they don't have to be there.

Look, I feel terrible for these men and women that joined the US military because they sincerely thought they were doing their patriotic duty by "protecting our freedoms" etc. but when you study the history of all the wars the US has gotten involved in then you will see that these wars take place to enrich a select few...which means these psychopath politicians don't give a damn about the soldiers or anyone but themselves. Seriously, right/left, republicrat/demican, when will the sheeple wake up to the fact that these parties are two wings of the same predatory bird?

War is an absolute shame on our existence as human beings err animals. IMHO anyone that kills or orders someone to be killed under the shield of war is a murderer. That includes the everyday brainwashed grunt to the top of the food chain politicians. Killing is killing. We ought to look at our part as terrorists and not just follow along as if America is the absolute. We are not.

The soldier who returns home from seeing and or taking part in horrific and ungodly events must be helped  medically, emotionally and vocationally. Not because they were fighting but because they are troubled individuals.  The rate of suicide in the armed forces is astronomical. I probably could not live with myself either and all for what?

I agree 100%. These perpetual wars for profit the US is involved in are so unbelievably immoral and tragic on so many levels.

So glad I'll keep my job and don't have to worry about another war over the next 4 years. This is the best economy I've seen in awhile. Good to know a clear majority voted for him. I did really like Massachusetts Romney, too bad he changed to cater to the fringe.

Of course you liked Romney too because issue by issue he was almost a clone of Obama. And not that Romney if elected would have been any less of a war monger than the current Murderer In Chief Obama, but your comment about not having another war for 4 years is shockingly ignorant.

Are you aware of the following FACTS about the Nobel Peace Prize winner...

-BO quadrupled troops in Afghanistan his first year and still has US soldiers protecting the opium fields there.

-Is replacing troops in Iraq with private contractors (i.e. mercenaries).

-Instead of closing club gitmo like he promised, he has expanded the facilities there.

-Is responsible for murdering hundreds and possibly thousands of innocent Mexicans with his tragic and illegal Fast And Furious operation.

-Is doing daily drone bomb murders in Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

-Has the TSA doing the kind of stuff that would put any of us in jail as molesters if we did the same - and all under the pretense of this bogus war on terror crap.

-Signed NDAA which allows these thugs to call any US citizen a terrorist and detain them indefinitely because of NO due process.

-Is arming, funding, and working with Al Queda in Libya and Syria. Yeah, the same Al Queda that 11 years ago supposedly attacked the US.

-Is setting up all kinds of pretexts for war by provoking Syria and Iran.

Are you aware of any of this stuff? And if so, how could you in good conscience vote for this guy again knowing this?

By any standard this creeps record has proven him to be just one more immoral as hell mass murderer (and yes, so was George Bush) with no clue about economics, and yet, half the sheeple voted for him...again! UN-F-ing-believable! It must be the fluoride in the water.

My last duty station before retiring from the Navy was Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego.  I had the interesting experience of listening to some wounded Marines (some with missing limbs)talking amongst themselves basically admitting they shot and killed unarmed civilians and even cracking jokes about it.  I just hope they don’t have trouble making it in the civilian world.  Jobs are disproportionally hard to come by as it is for vets so hopefully for their sake they will keep that on the downlow.

Of course they will have a difficult time. They are injured physically and suffering from PTSD and the psychopathic creep thug politicians in DC that sent them to murder foreign persons and become injured or get murdered in this PERPETUAL WAR OF TERROR for profit DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THEM.

It's strange to be registered Libertarian but never vote it because of not wanting to waste my vote. But then how will my party gain momentum if nobody votes for it including its members...

If I still believed in the political process then Libertarian is the only way I would vote.

Do you guys always jam the paddle into the wave when doing a square off the lip or cutback?

And lets say you are a regular foot here...    When setting up for a round house cut back, do you move your front foot past the center of the board to more on the left side of the board?
