Gear Talk / Re: Fin Question
« on: October 27, 2012, 10:08:48 PM »
Do you have the old Starboard bamboo hatchet shaped fin or the new dolphin shaped fin? .. How heavy are you?

Are you after better tracking or better stability or better surfing/turning.. and do you have a lot of weed to deal with?

DJ

Dolphin shape, 190 lbs, would like better stability but can also have lots-o-kelp to deal with at times.

Gear Talk / Fin Question
« on: October 27, 2012, 09:21:26 PM »
I have a Starboard Surf Race 12'6"x26.5". I currently using the stock fin and want a better all around fin for all types of ocean conditions. Anybody have the same or similar board and have some advise?

Had a (lengthy!) conversation with Larry this afternoon, and he pretty much went into great detail about what was was said about the:

Allison Ninja. This fin performs very well in many conditions... tracks very well, yet pivot turns much easier than the Gladiator ... the Ninja is my go-to fin for almost everything but very windy distance races when I will use the Gladiator Hybrid.

Looking forward to it! And anyone curious about fins, give Larry a few seconds and he'll fill you in ;)

Mana Karma,
Did you get the Ninja yet? If so, whats your take on it?

They are fiberglass. I've used Solarez many times for worse fin damage than that and it works awesome.

Call me a grump but nearly four minutes of mawkish patriotically themed advertising before the action starts is a little excessive.  Bash me if you want, but I think this post belongs in a company forum and not in General.

Grumpy!  ;)

Come on you had to know it included some advertising. I expected it and I still liked it.

I just watched the promo video for your board.

"no wake design"??!!. The tail is under water! No way it'll take up to 250lbs.

Going to check out the Wiki XtufS combo this weekend. Going for a long paddle early Sunday morning.

Let us know how it was. Also, what is your height and weight?

There is a 12'6" that should float you well. Look at the Starboard Race 12'6" x 31.5". It's 290 liters of volume.

What are the stats on your board (ie brand, dimensions & volume)?

Bark 12'6" x 29" Competitor (TufLite) vs Starboard Race 12'6" x 29" Epoxy (AST)
I'm looking at these 2 boards for racing and training 90% in all ocean conditions. Anyone ride both and have feedback? I'm 5'11'' & 190lbs.

Buy a Voyager you will not regret it. I have used mine in all conditions. While it's not a high performance board it's the best design for anyone who wants to do anything but surf it. I love mine.

Just curious. Was it taken off you car or out of garage?
