I would 100% go for +10L. Anything less as u r only a month would be frustrating. I'm a year in and my +10L board has been a fantastic 1 board quiver. I will still keep it for light wind as I've just ordered a prone - 25L board but this will be for powered up conditions or for sale shortly if Im too crap..

Buy the inflatable Hipe package. The Hipe is a cracking board. Once you are up and running sell it and get a nice keeper. I had the 5'1 85L as my intermediate board and it was great.

Yeah, it's a personal thing. My 5.5 Slick from 9 knots and my 4m Takoon from 14/15 knots.

Got it, I can see how this will work and funnily enough it's a very similar starting position to my Wingfoil starts.
Thanks again..

Thanks guys, is the Tripod the same as the Chicken wing? I couldn't find any video using Tripod surf pop as a search. I watched the chicken wing video and this makes alot of sense as you know at least the back foot will be in the correct place. I can't wait to give it a crack. I will report back as I reckon there will be a fair few Wing foilers crossing over.

For what it's worth my view on the Strike.. I had the V1 5m Swing for 5 months and loved how light it was but didn't like its lack of low end grunt and big wingspan as I'm a short arse. I had the chance to demo the 5m Strike at the beach. Several wingers locally have switched to the Strike and I was curious to see how it did. It was 12 to 14 knots and I was completely underwelmed. Felt very similar to the Swing, same massive wingspan and lack of power. My Takoon 4m feels only slightly less in power. I ended up with a Duotone Slick for my light wind wing which has way more power. It does prove that Internet research and forums are great but if you can demo evan if you have to travel it really does help. Wings are definitely a very personal choice.
*The Takoon and the Slick are the 2 best I've used out of lots of demos and more than a few purchases..!!?!

Hdip - awesome thank you, much appreciated. I reckon I'll be OK once I've made it to my feet evan if my feet are not quite in the right place. I've spent 200 hours + on foil and can switch from natural to goofy on foil (after a gybe in winging) and been out in some fairly big seas. Its the lack of fire power in my arms for paddling, crap pop up technique and picking the right waves which I will find tricky. Learning is cool though..

I've been Wingsurfing for the past 8 months almost every other day. I'm really comfortable on foil! I have 2 mid aspect foils 1450 (90% of the time) and 2000 (light wind). I surfed a little bit when I was younger and have sup surfer for the last 6 years. I want to Surf foil on my wing board which is 5'2 26" 85L. I'm 77kgs, if I got into it I would buy a smaller lower litre prone foil board which could also work as a sinker for wingsurfing. I don't want to sup foil as I like the smaller board and want smaller than my current board not bigger.. Lol.

When learning to pop up and foil surf in small waves..
1) do I use my big or small foil?
2) The pop up looks slightly slower and less critical than non foil surf. Any hints?
3) do you keep your feet through the centre line? When Winging my front foot is slightly offset.
4) my plan is to try and find a reform wave and take off on the white water, is this what you would suggest?
5) does a smaller sinker board take off as easy/more easy/less easy than my floaty wing board? A sinker won't have glide but it may get picked up and pushed more in white water?

Any general other tips would be awesome..
Thanks

Right, I'm not going to bother. Now to work out if 250 grams is worth an extra spend of £100 over the Alu boom..

I havnt got a broken carbon paddle I can use. Any ideas how to make a cheap carbon mini boom as Duotone one is v. expensive ? It needs to be 129cm long.
Thanks

Loved this thread.

I think this sport really rewards you if you put the time in. What I mean is you can put hours into prone Surfing, Golf, Tennis etc and still look like a complete novice. Not so with winging. Time on the foil makes everything progressively easier. I've loved every little break through and havnt been frustrated when I've not cracked something. Winging has got me in the water with a smile on my face in the middle of a super cold winter with 25+ knots of freezing NE Wind in the UK.  :D

Wow, I'm clearly not jealous of those quivers and accumulations!!  :(
