Wind Powered / Wood Fin Support

I knew this day was coming, cracked fin box.   Sailing a sup with to large a fin for the board structure. Damn shore break !   I seem to remember in the 80's glass sailboards had two strips of wood next the fin box for support.   I plan on installing a new fin box embedded in a brick size section of high density foam.   Any ideas on installing two strips of wood as well.   What type of wood ?  wood thickness ?   How long and deep ?  Do the wood strips butt up to the box or is there foam between the fin box and wood ?   Any and all ideas are welcome.

Wind Powered / Fins

Installed a mast track in a 9' x 32" wide North Pacific round pin board.   Sailed it yesterday in lite winds, waist high waves, smooth water.   Fin set up is 7" center fin with 4" side.   Loads of fun on a wave, no problem tracking straight.   No real complaints, looking for input to what others are using fin wise.   I'm not looking to plane, would a bigger center fin help going up wind ?

looking for info on boards to ride bigger waves on reefs with less than glassy conditions.  My skill level, 40 yrs of surfing medium to large surf, 25 yrs windsurfing waves and now 3 yrs standup, intermediate + level on the paddle board.  Looking for a board with glide and stability, but gunny enough to ride up to 10 ft waves.  Current board is 10 6 with a pulled in nose & tail 28.5 wide, with medium rocker.   Paddled a place called rockpile on the central coast Monday 6/15/09, big and ledgy.  Had trouble catching the waves due to severe lateral shifting wave.  Seem to be a glide problem.  Would a shorter flater & wider be better or longer board with less rocker be better.  My weight is 205 lbs.  Any ideas.  Considering a jimmy lewis 10 4 .
