I googled this some time ago and cork can be different qualities, ground coarser or finer, and they use different adhesives and different curing temps depending on use.So hardware store cork for construction may not work at all for us.

Wow, looks great!.
How does the PVC wrapping go?. You shape the blank, wrap in carbon spread tow and Dcell and vacuum bag? . 66

Personally i would not worry at all about the amount of Tefgel you will use on your foil (milligrams) .

Tefgel as said above, formulated to break electrical current i think.
It is electrolysis that kills the alu. 68
Wingsurfing, Windfoiling, Wingfoiling, Wing SUP / Re: Wing Board Tail Rocker - Thoughts« on: June 17, 2022, 01:50:34 PM »Ha ha, looks like I'm not the only one convinced by Kalama's thought processes. This is my new SUP in progress too. No tail rocker and kalama tail for a SUP that needs boardspeed to get on foil. The tradeoff is a nosedown attitude in flight. I still think a wingboard needs some tail rocker for better flight characteristics but If the SUP proves to be what people are saying I will try a rockered kalama tail on my next wing board. I do not understand this. Why would zero rocker at the foilbox give a nose down attitude in flight?. Most modern foils are designed to fly level on flat boxes, and if this is not the case you can always shim the mast plate. 69

I think my "shop" would fit on your workbench
Good job on that handle, that gap is too big and it sucks to grab empty air. 70

I have just ordered another pair of Takoons,1000 eur total.
Good ole Dacron and Ripstop, soft handles,no window. After reading/watching every review i could find on Aluula,Hookipa,Xply,RS and whatnot i still think the price is too high for the improvements they give. I was convinced they would be total gamechangers, IMHO they are not there yet. 71

That looks really bombproof!
Thx for the pics, i will probably copy some of that when i make a wingboard. 72

Ok,so 2 more (partial) stringers added. It is 100g more, now i am just shy of 1kg before glassing but i think this is stronger and eventually lighter than adding lots of carbon layers to the bottom.

The Shape Shack / Re: Foil boards breaking from bottom lam fatigue« on: May 02, 2022, 01:50:06 PM »Thx! This one is crazy thin, 11mm in the thickest center section...wow. I asked but they will not reveal what's inside Here is their web https://hydrofoil.de/products/hydrofoil-de-disc-pumpfoilboard 74
The Shape Shack / Re: Foil boards breaking from bottom lam fatigue« on: May 02, 2022, 10:24:56 AM »FYI - years ago tried ultra thick super burley stringers and they ended up pulling through the glass. Oh,my...was it plain glass? The nightmare scenarios are endless. I hope i will be safe from that with the Innegra and whatever else i slap on for reinforcement. Goal is to keep this one around 2kg , i do want a dockstart board but it is also a great school/testbed for when i make a Wingfoil board later on. For a +3kg dock board it is way easier to go with bent plywood and maybe some top carbon. I has all the fiddly bits with 1/3 of the materials expense. 75
The Shape Shack / Re: Foil boards breaking from bottom lam fatigue« on: May 02, 2022, 06:50:34 AM »@Dontsink This one is 4cm= 1.5in Sounds like good advice, and thanks because this one is about ready for lam but i can still reinforce it. Maybe two additional stringers on the inside of the boxes would be more efficient than just heaping carbon layers?. Glass schedule will be 200g Carbon/Innegra+200g Carbon on the top and same on bottom. Plus usual foilbox patches and wood veneer patches where the feet land. |
