I made my own version of that  with a nylon 2cm thick cutting board.
Pretty much the same shape, works perfectly well,no dings when getting on board and you can paddle prone in a hurry without moving it aside. It just folds flat.
Perfect for the wing.
Will you post a picture?  Thanks

I made my own with a 4cm wide old roof rack strap and some dual density EVA foam(6mm thick) i got from Amazon(it comes in strips for decking motor boats etc...).  https://www.amazon.es/dp/B07SBMHNB2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_2S35QSD9TD7KAX4KBBN5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I had to remove the adhesive as it was very weak, some solvent and it comes off.
I then glued the foam to the strap with good contact glue, cut the excess foam and radiused the edges of the foam with a dremel for easy in/out.

It stays glued really well, you can lay prone or step on them easy as they have a very low profile and they pop back open every time.

I have tried Gong and Dakine but for the Wing i prefer this ones way better.

Cannot post pics directly, see them here:

Yeah, I think beyond the plastic it’s that it will fold over due to the lack of a wide base.

These are exactly what I was dreaming of. 3D printed vs CNC is interesting. Someone test this.
Yep.  I think you're right but placing let's say three of them together or fashioning a wider base ???

Noooo...don't do that.
When sailing it stays perfectly...er...erect :) and does not move around at all.
It only flops sideways if you lay prone on it but this is a very good thing, you can paddle out through some foamies ,stand up and foil away without fiddling with the hook at all.Or do the Stinkbug start.
It can also be slid sideways if you need to padle for a longer time, like getting back in if wind drops completely.

It is a very simple design but it works brilliantly.

And no need for superstrong fancy plastic, like i said mine was made with a 2cm thick nylon cutting board (chinese cheapo) .I have used it on overpowered 4m days and it is plenty strong enough, the forces of the wing are just so puny compared to a kite or windsurf sail.

I would think hard plastic and hard metal will have the same dinging effect on a surfboard, especially a custom.

I can't find my dakine chameleon and have been using the old ozone v1 one size harness and I really don't like how floppy and flexy it is, hooking in doesn't has the same solid feel.

Has a hook that folds 90 degrees been tried?  recessed into a padded layer that will protect the board...  Maybe even have one of those locking type pins on knives to keep it from accidentally collapsing and trapping the harness line...

I have used metal and my board has the scars to prove it,and i was careful. But when conditions get rough,or you are  tired or in a hurry...

The  nylon hook i am using now is completely harmless to the board, other plastics like ABS i don't know.

I read "Demon Haunted World" ,"Cosmos" and "Pale Blue Dot" back when i was twenty.
Completely changed my perception of...everything really, for the better. They felt like turning the light on after stumbling in the dark.
They also led to other science divulgators like Dawkins,Jared Diamond etc...

yeah, front wing makes a massive difference. Like 25 degrees higher into the wind than older foils.

25* higher?...compared to which older foil?.

I once measured one of JB's upwind tracks.
He was making 60* degrees off the wind (if wind North, groundtrack was 60*).
Cannot remember the average speed (10-12kt?) but i got a ballpark figure of 5kt VMG.
Naish HA foil wing.

A comp kiter driving a 15m race hydrofoil kite can do about 43* from upwind in 13kt,and speeds are way higher.

I have found that the board has a big effect on the Upwind capability.
Smaller boards,pointier/narrower noses and a forward mast setup  reduce windage and nose down effect when you lean the board into the wind. This takes away a lot of load from the foil.

278
I have a 6m+4m,as my pumping up on foil is getting better and wings are getting gruntier my next quiver will probably be 5 and 3.5m (i am 75kg).

The 5m is what i miss a lot...i think it is the Swiss Army knife of wing sizes :)

It's painted on my oldest toolbox, but apparently, I don't see it often enough.

Two weeks ago i cut a 3mm thick slice out of my fingertip with a box cutter.Well into  the fleshy bit.Healing nicely, thank god for that liquid band aid stuff.

30mins before i had been lecturing a friend on the dangers of hand and power tools...duh!.

Foil SUP / Re: Foil Flex, How much is too much?

Wow, this is very interesting , could potentially make foils faster, turnier and easier to control.

I kind of pity manufacturers, every little change in shape has huge effect on a foil's behaviour and now flex is thrown into the mix :)

Surfcowboy- Your front hand is your front riding hand which rests on the board with you laying under it. You use the front hand to push down on the nose of the board and quickly pop up to your knees. It works so well and is quick. One of these days I’ll try to get a better video of it but it’s pretty simple.
VB- Glad you tried it out just need to a bit more wind it sounds like!!

You should make a new thread titled "Stinkbug Starting Technique".

So everybody could read it,it is kind of buried here and it deserves a big spotlight :)

I think it is a gamechanger for small boards and for any board in chalenging conditions like big chop or waves.Quicker and easier than anything else.

As exiled said.
Move mast back and/or  shim the front of the mast plate (3-4mm make a big difference).

With foiling i have learned, the hard way, that white wash can be super easy to catch or as demanding timing wise as a green wave.

Bigger days and higher periods can be very difficult and i have  gotten tumbled and frustrated on the inside a few times, it is humbling because from the beach it looked so easy...until you try to do it :)
Too early and it just buries you in turbulence, too late and you do not get in at all.

My only advice is keep trying and pick a lower energy day if it feels too sketchy/out of control. No point in getting hurt.

Oh. I was thinking they were changing the fuse. You’re saying they’re changing just the specific wings.
Yes, the shim under the rear bolt changes the angle of how the wing sits on the fuse, and it's just one (maybe two) of the new wings that might need it depending on rider preference. Just like many of the brands suggest and offer shims for the rear wing to get a different ride or feel from it. This is just doing something a little different with a front wing or two to change how it flies and rides.

This option of shimming the front wing is great.
But manufacturers should start providing some guidelines explaining what shims do at stab, mast baseplate and fuse to front wing connection.
With sample setups for different  riding conditions and preferences.
Average rider is going to go nuts otherwise.
