Hole diameter seems to be off, as in the "diameter" of Axis/Naish seems to have lost 1mm.  For example my measurement of 30mm plus + 6mm equals 36mm, when they are calling it 35mm.

I'm willing to bet that if you measure the diameter of the hole in the fuse, it'll be 5mm.  you probably measured the hole in the wing.  Can't mix the math.  Either measure the minimum spacing AND the diameter on the wing or make the same two measurements on the fuse.

PS GoFoil is 30mm

can we please use center to center spacing?  the way you show is totally non-standard and confusing to me at least.  I understand you have a hard time measuring center to center, but instead you can measure what you've done and then add the hole diameter to get center to center

Back the point brought up by SanO - I'll say that I haven't noticed a difference between the standing deck angle during flight with several different boards for which I KNOW there is a difference in the angle between the foil and the deck.  However, I have noticed the difference during wave take-off.  I know you don't care about wave count or how it feels to catch the wave - but I do!  I'm pretty sure that for me, once I'm up in the air - the board basically doesn't matter besides the weight.  For me that includes the precise angle of the deck to the foil - I don't think it effects my riding experience.

I've noticed the biggest differences between boards is apparent at the initial wave take-off and acceleration.  It manifests in where my weight needs to be to keep things in control.

Best: my foot position and weight balance fore-aft matches for all three important phases - maneuvering for take-off, paddling for take-off, and flying.

Realistic: my foot position and/or weight balance fore-aft changes through these three phases.  In reality, I get to know the board and the foil characteristics as well as various types of wave takeoffs and manage this through feel.  But there are a ton of combinations to manage and I'd rather not take the first half hour of every sesson blowing waves until I get the right feel.

PS. from having spent just a few days at SanO - you guys down there are totally spoiled.  That's about the most user friendly wave I've ever encountered (I rode it both overhead and piddly small).  For those of us in more challenging waves, takeoff is huge

catching small to medium sized waves the wing is not in the same water flow as the board.  The water is flowing more vertical at the board versus at the foil which is deeper down below the wave.  So I wouldn't be surprised if there is a different sweet angle for catching waves depending on the wave too

WHOAH is right - 1:35-1:40 putting the foil in reverse and then spinning back to forward and staying on foil.  A lot of things in this video seem impossible

locksmiths literally call this key blank a "surf key".  I wasn't satisfied with that because its a bit too big to fit in the little pouch in my leash, so I bough a blank, filed it down in length to the minimum possible and cut off most of the handle.  Then I brought the smaller blank back to the locksmith to copy it.

I worry about salt water getting in the lock, so I stick it in my mouth and give it a saliva rinse before using it.  Too gross for you?  Working fine for me for the last 10 years several times a week.

Sessions / "magic hour" at Cowells Santa Cruz

Cowells has been going off for the last week.  Such incredible foiling, I've had a few of my all-time best sessions there just in the last week.  At the right tide and swell, it could well be California's best foiling wave.  The only problem is paddling back out 1km+ and going around the corner to indicators with all the water rushing around the corner against you.  The kelp is almost all cleared out now all the way along west cliff.

The "magic hour" as I've started calling it is the hour just before the place becomes completely swamped with people.  Low tide cowells is pretty special for longboarding - with a small swell it needs a negative tide, but with bigger swell anything less than a foot is perfect.   This past week low tide has been mid-day, with the associated sunshine and the conditions glassing off by mid-morning.   About 2 hours before low tide it isn't quite good enough for the longboarders but perfect for foiling.  It is just barely breaking and backing off, rolling all the way into the beach.  By about an hour before low tide, you can't even make your way up the stairs because its a steady stream of wavestorms walking down, and by low tide there will be literally hundreds of people in the water.  Not a good place for a foil at all.

Every day I've been out there a handful of other foilers are out frothing away and riding so many waves the only limit is the paddle back out, and the need to get back to my car for a zoom call.

On the really big swell days, my white whale is getting one all the way out at middle peak steamers.  I am absolutely positive I could ride it to the beach for an almost 1.5km ride.  I know because I catch the set waves after the surfers drop off them at the statue and ride those to the beach.  I paddled out to middle peak several times now, but I can't get the speed or positioning to drop in.  I've been in the wrong place a few times and got completely and utterly blown up.  I come up for air a couple of hundred meters down the coast with the water moving like crazy.  But, I'm going to get one of those soon...

wow, really nice build, thanks for sharing!  where did you find the official dimensional specification for deep tuttle in order to make your male plug?  Did it end up fitting flush with the Moses tuttle mast?

Dwight - thanks for sharing those identical board pictures to test chines.  I would love to see the same done for double concave noses vs. flat entry bottoms on the nose.  That’s what this thread was started for and something I’m super curious about having never ridden a double concave board. I almost want to make another copy of my own design but add the concave features to try back to back.  Worth the price of another board?  That’s a hard one to justify to the purse holder in my family.

Rides fantastic.  Came in at 16# with pad, straps, handle, rail tape.  Perfectly balanced center of gravity over with wing.  Still need to play with the placement of the foil, but it works absolutely awesome.  Really really stable platform in the water.  I'm stoked!

Should I be worried about the breather being on the bottom side of the board?   Not what I would have asked for, but that’s what the board guy installed.  Never thought to clarify

Whelp - I fell down the stairs getting in the water this morning, which tore up the NL winglet on one side.  Had a great session but then again it was totally jumbly and backwashy, so very hard to tell if there is anything wrong with the wing.  I'll epoxy it back up and get it pristine again just because I need some time alone in the garage tonight for my own sanity.
