Hey Wingfoil - or anyone else who has a slick:
would you be kind enough to take a few pictures of the ends of the boom next to a ruler and also give me an overall length of the boom with fittings?
I was able to score a slick wing without the boom and I'm going to make a carbon boom from a paddle shaft rather than buy the aluminum one for $80. I figure on 3D printing the end fittings and hot gluing in place. Unless the paddle handle fits in the front end as is, I'll use that since its super light.

I wasn't using innegra, but I was able to use a trash bag full of water as a poor man's vacuum bag - applies pressure and conforms to shape. It worked great!

it sounds like you should get ahold of wizardhat shim kit https://foilmount.com/products/trim-shim-stackable-hydrofoil-shimming-systemI've been happy to have the kit - it works really well. People say that it shouldn't matter, but I found that it does matter quite a bit - if it is riding nose down I'd be willing to bet that it has an un-natural feel as it lifts off the water. The foil has too much angle of attack versus the deck of your board, so it will jump up out of the water until you get the nose down. The whole thing will work a ton better with some negative shim angle under the baseplate. Keep in mind you'll need to slide the mount forward in the box a little bit when you negative shim the baseplate because it moves the center of effort backwards. If you want to be exact, its mast length times cosine of shim angle - or 1.5cm per degree of shim on an 86cm mast. Geek out much? yup.

There is a guy Beasho knows out in half moon bay with one of them. Last I heard he was lamenting how tippy it is but super happy with how it rides. We both agreed that a more stable platform catches more waves and is worth the tradeoff for surfing at least.

I'm really interested to hear your opinion on the 350p with a .5 or 1deg shim. I found this makes it turn a ton better and better low end pumping - you do have to move it back a little in the boxes. Beasho didn't love this config because it does make it a bit more pitchy

wow, yes that's cheap. can't afford not to try it at that price.
Pono - the RSPro hex look like they are 1mm thick - I wonder if I should be going with 1.5mm instead of 3mm. I guess I could get both and see which feels better

I think with a little more iteration we will see these super high aspect super thin wings turn as good as today's surf wings. Perhaps the Takuma or RS will be even better than the 999, we'll see.
An interesting note on the tail shim - I tried 1.5deg and 1deg both turn and pump really great. 0deg was not to my liking, it felt like it didn't want to roll side to side - although I didn't think to move it up in the boxes. I want to get some time on .5deg because I do think the 1 and 1.5deg is a bit pitchy.
Beasho post up your ride report on 0deg vs. 1deg for those of us geeks who make or break on half a degree

Beasho - my initial hesitation has gone away now that I have the right tail setup - it surfs pretty well. But to be honest, I'm using it all the time just because pumping is just so so fun and this is by far the best pumping wing I've ever tried. Pumping back out and cranking a 180 turn on the face of the next wave is just so fun.
The turning feel of the 980/1210 is still unmatched. Additionally, the 999 is pretty flexible and it shows. In bigger waves I still really like the feel of a stiffer wing, and also the pitch stability of the Kujira is still pretty magical. On a big steep drop the 999 is tricky to manage pitch comparatively.

GL240 is the best dockstart wing I know of (haven't tried any of the brand new stuff though). I miss mine sometimes, but not enough to buy this - sorry

I would say the 350 progressive is very similar to the KDMaui 13.5" they didn't copy it exact or anything like that, but if you put them on top of each other the 350 is only 1/4" more span and about the same chord. They look about the same thickness too.
But importantly, they ride very similar to the point where I probably couldn't tell the difference.
getting the shim right is so important though - rides so different at different angles
And yes, I'm only riding the 999 in surf right now. I will probably keep using the 980 this winter whenever the real swell rolls through

I'm running the 350 progressive with 1deg of shim and it works great. Without the shim is a touch more efficient, but it doesn't turn very well nor come up without a bunch of back foot pressure. It comes alive and rides great with 1deg of shim. After a couple months getting the 999 dialed, I went back to the takuma 1250 for a session which I used to think was the best foil ever made and it just feels draggy now.

Get the smallest lightest board you can possibly find for dockstarting. Once you learn to master the foil behind a boat on the monster board, you'll eventually be able to use the same tiny board behind the boat. If you aren't planning on using it for paddle-in surfing, then don't get distracted by larger boards made for paddling in. You want the lightest shortest board for pumping - it makes a difference for sure.
