The 8m stay covered leash is the burliest I ever owned and I've been very happy with mine.

I'll tag on to your thread - looking for a 5.5m without the boom if anyone has one.  Thank You!

In my opinion. Having looked at all the options, Cedrus mast with axis fuse is the absolute best you can get from the standpoint of durability and ruggedness.

I break and bend all kinds of gear for years and years.  I leave this setup in my car without taking it apart for dozens of sessions, no issues.

Putting an eye splice into both ends of 1/8" dyneema 12 strand cord is the best option if you use a waist harness.  Not that hard to do and not very expensive.  The sailing world has lots of options for lightweight swivel shackles and if you want one a snap-shackle has a quick release as a bonus.  I personally think this is the way

My only criticism is he's still a little too pro vax,  and stays away from some of the negative efficacy issues of our vaccines.

I wonder why you view this is a problem?  Are you looking for "experts" who will confirm your opinion or are you listening to experts in order to form an opinion?

from what ive read, the 999 isnt so great at TURNING on a wingtip.

I would strongly challenge that assessment.  With the right tail and the right tail tuning mine turns great.  I love surfing it.  I'm using the 350P with .5deg shim of increased tail downforce.

tail handle to the rescue.  I've had decent luck swimming out next to the board flipped (foil in the air) holding onto the tail handle.  When the wave comes in, it does try to flip the board, but if you've got weight on the tail handle it won't flip.   I use a long leash on the wing to my waist harness.  the only issue is that it is very slow going and hard to do in very shallow water

FYI - everything works great.  It’s cheaper than the carbon handle to buy a ke nalu  shaft and ergo T handle and plug the other end.  Also this is about 200g solution versus the duotone 330g for the carbon mini boom.   I personally really liked the grip of the x tuff shaft.   I reckon that just about any paddle with a T handle could be cut to length.  Cheers!

Foil Stoke on Christmas morning - the kids are happily chugging away playing their brand new games and I'm making the rounds on the foil forums.  I just finished packing up my foils and wings into a golf bag to head down to Mexico tomorrow.    Let's hope we have some wind.    Happy Holidays everyone!

So much stoke!

Just a little than 5 years ago I ordered a gofoil setup.  It would be 6 months before I had the foil in hand AND a tuttle box in my board.  Earlier this year I passed 500 foil surfing sessions.

From the original Maliko, to the IWA, getting a longer mast, M200, going from a converter to a foil specific board, the joy of a chopped tail, GL series and the glide revelation, learning to pump for real with the NL series, and the KD Maui tail revolution.  Designing my own foil board that came out great.  Then Takuma Kujira and now the ART.  I can peg very specific improvements in my riding attributed to every single gear transition for me - and it continues to get better and better!  What I can't believe is how much there is still to learn, and how much I know the gear is going to continue to improve enabling all kinds of improvement in kind.

But enough about gear.

Every single time I get out of the water, I've realize that I had a nice session.  Just last week I got in the water and was literally the only soul in the water as far as I could see.  Absolute trash conditions, and here I was foiling up a storm and having a great time.   I couldn't catch my breath because as soon as I paddled back out, here comes a wave I need to spin and grab.  Where is everybody?

For years I missed out on the really good days because I can't run for the beach whenever its good.  I have specific windows to go surf between family and work.  Now without fail every single time those available windows are 100% enjoyable - I honestly can't think of a bad session except when I break a leash or break some gear and have to go in early.

The wave count is so high, I get out of the water completely spent.  And whenever I can't be in the water I want to geek out about foiling.

I can't believe I've been so high on the same thing for almost 5 years.

#2 decide on the tail angle - generally this will set up your ideal turning radius, more angle for tighter turns.  Also more angle gives you a more low end grunt for pumping.  Less angle has less drag but doesn't turn as tightly.
More angle, meaning raising front or back screw on the tail?  Or to put it another way, leading edge angled more up or leading edge angled more down.

more angle means more downforce with the tail, trailing edge raised, leading edge lowered.

the point people are trying to make is that you could just move your foot position forward an inch and have the same effect.  It isn't some kind of magic advice for everyone.  Clearly it worked for you and that's great.  It might work for other people too.  But so will lots of other things.

I picked up a 4.5m slick without a boom.

It turns out the Kenalu ergoT handle fits the front end perfectly.  I have a broken paddle shaft that I cut to size and I just need to make a stopper for the back end and hot-glue it in.  Its going to be super light, I'm psyched.

I would guess that just about any paddle handle would work and who of us doesn't have an old carbon paddle around.

This wing looks sweet!

4 different adjustments all do different things

#1 figure out where you want your foot position - this should be based on how the board floats and takes off on a wave
#2 decide on the tail angle - generally this will set up your ideal turning radius, more angle for tighter turns.  Also more angle gives you a more low end grunt for pumping.  Less angle has less drag but doesn't turn as tightly.
#3 move the foil fore/aft to balance the forces on your feet
#4 optional: baseplate shim if the board is riding nose up or nose down

agreed completely dontsink

That said though - more tail angle will cause the nose to come up very very slightly (slightly more angle of attack at a given speed) because we need a little more lift to counteract the additional tail downforce.  But its gonna be a really small effect and doubtful if we'll be able to feel that.
