Gear Talk / Re: Dakine is improving their leashes for 2017.

Dakine makes a lot of great products and I used to be a big fan, but I stopped buying their leashes a long time ago, consistent failure. Glad to see they are making changes.

Gear Talk / Volumetric lift of a deck pad???
« on: January 13, 2017, 10:32:30 AM »
Has anyone calculated the volumetric lift of a deck pad? Im assuming its less than half a Liter.

I know it adds buoyancy but don't know how much. Curious if one could be made thick enough to add a liter or more of lift to a board that was on the edge of sinking.  Even if it was temporary until you got used to a low volume board.  Kind of like training wheels.

It might have to be an inch thick, which would hurt your fight with gravity, by raising your center of gravity that much, but then again....maybe someone needs to market it (DaKine?).

Anyone have a spare pad and a big tub of water?

You guys are killing me, I got the Phantom 4 yesterday:(

That inspire 2 looks amazing. Question; what SD card are you using with 4K and 5K filming? I'm assuming your using imovie on your mac for editing?

I'll start with this one and if it goes well, wait till the Inspire 3 comes out :)

I cant wait until we get some swell and film my son and my other son who is in crew and i can never see him.

....agreed....I used to live in NY and grew up doing donuts in the mall parking lots after first snow....

However today its more people being distracted by cell phones, texting etc...

...our world will be a safer place once they get the autonomous car figured out, made affordable and available to the mass market

I had the privilege of having a conversation with Larry Page (co-founder of Google)a few months ago, he was pretty focused on getting this done.

Now I hope there is truth to the rumor that he is working on a personal flying drone :)

The Shape Shack / Going SUB 100L...wish me luck!
« on: December 31, 2016, 09:24:36 AM »
Put in order for sub 100 L board (99.9L), which at my 198 LBS should keep things interesting.  I've been working down 2-5 Liters every time, last one was 105 L and was fine and I was 225 Lbs so should be ok, now that I dropped 27 Lbs.

Going to try the Hypto Krypto shape. 7'-8" x 28" x 4.2"

They think they are excellent drivers because they are willing to go absurdly fast on a freeway. They aren't. They suck. If you haven't driven a car on a racetrack at the true edge of control, then you suck at driving. I don't know any good race car drivers that drive dangerously on the street.

I can't wait for driverless cars.

Everyone in my house who drives has been to the track multiple times, including my 17 year old, who raced karts.  My wife used to scare the shit out of me driving so I took her to the track to drive (not watch me) and even she became a way better driver after several track days under her belt.  I make it a prerequisite in my house:)

Rule #1 in Hawaii
Never leave boards on car unattended for any length of time. Got my first lesson in'73. Stopped at Maile Pt to check the surf. Sitting 4 ft from car looking at waved for 60 seconds. Boards gone and nobody saw nutting brah

Thanks - been doing it for 30 years but I guess my luck just ran out.  I was about to purchase a company truck for my Hawaii office but now Im considering a van.

Thanks guys, it really sucks for my son who cant SUP the rest of his vacation because we cant find a 6-6" sup. I can always go rent a board, but still wont be what i'm used to. I've been putting them on my roof for 30 years with no issues. They cut the straps with a blade, right in front of where the cops were sitting with their blue light on.   We printed out flyers and posted them at all the shops.
