Im very familiar with Oahu and am staying at Turtle Bay on North Shore for a week before Christmas but looking to "branch" out to Kauai or Maui for the second week this Christmas with the family. Two of us Kite and SUP waves. Looking for nice place to stay to keep wife happy. I was considering the Kapalua Villas in Maui but not sure where to surf....I guess Honolua Bay is a no go SUP spot and West side is no surf spot in winter. I know I can drive to Spreckles to kite.
Looking for some suggestions, Mahalo.

Team Sup-Position was killing it today at the cliffs....only a few proners out but they couldn't keep up with the drift. Ralph got a DOH air drop on his Naish that would have made the cover shot if we got it. Soo fun!! Super long clean lefts. Light rain. No wind.
Pics of the pier below. You can barely make out one guy throwing a huge spray.

Takes balls of steel and a good sponsorship to drop in on the Wedge when it's pumping.
Check surfline about 9:20am today at the Wedge, not sure who it is...

I broke my KeNalu blade a couple of weeks ago and Ralph hooked me up with one of his new Sup-Position Blades which fits directly into the KeNalu shaft.
The blade works great, nice power stroke, aprox 85 Square Inches. Close to the Wiki blade it replaced.
I use is only in surf and it works great. Hit up Ralph for yours!

Funny story…..I have a friend who has lived in Kona for 30 years and he told me about this “secret spot” near Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii….I had to drive 1.5 hours in the dark to get there…he warned me the dangers of driving in the Big Island….pigs (speed traps)…pigs and goats…….so to keep the story short….I arrive as the sun is barely up and start to paddle out….There are two peaks and I decide easily that I want the left peak (im goofy)…there are about 15 people in the water (no SUP's) total between the two points….As I paddle out in the dim light I hear “fucking haole go home”…I ignore it…and again “fucking haole”….I cant see the guy but my stomach knots up and I start to fear the worst…I keep paddling away from the voice, which his on the peak to the right…..I get to the lineup and the banter stops….I decide to sit down on my board and try and blend in (which one of us is not like the other).
After everyone catches a few I inch my way towards the take off point slowly and this guy asks me where I’m from and we start talking. I basically ask his permission to surf there and he says no problem just don’t be a dick and hog the waves…fast forward 30 minutes and the whole group is yelling…”go cali kid go!”…that fires me up and I make some drops I shouldn’t have and surfed better than I normally do…...3 hours later I know all their names and we say our goodbyes’ and are all “bradas”….fun time….great people….just got to show some respect

Got my hands on the new S5 tonight. I will write a review in a week or so. Some folks were asking about the differences between the S4 and S5, so I took a few shots for visual analysis. Dimensions are; S4 = 7-6 x 29 x 4 3/8 106 Liters S5 = 7-5 x 27 3/4 x 4 3/8 108 Liters Im 5'-9" at 215 Lbs Note they do come with lithium ion batteries to keep them glowing, which adds to the weight Scary note I only have one leash plug....not sure what to do with just one...maybe I need to have an IPA

I spent some time this weekend with the man the myth the OG...Joe Blair! I cant say enough good things about Joe. He is such a great guy and what a shaper! He has spent a lot of time with my son Aidan and has taken him under his arm, given him sponsorship, guidance and keeps popping out great boards.
Attached are pics of my new gun...since I left my other one in Hawaii....its a 8'10" x 28" x 4' 1/2" im guessing about 115 L.
I will post more pics when its finished. And do a write up. If any of you get a chance to visit Solana Beach (North San Diego) you should take some time and visit Joe. The stories and history of surfing alone is worth the stop. Oh and hit up tabletops, its a great little reef break down there.

This report updated Thursday, February 12 at 7:30 AM 15-20 ft - 3-4 times overhead Should be a good one...link below to watch live..... fair to good Conditions Aloha, this is Kekoa with the report for Thursday morning. Morning Report for North Shore: Large surf still rolling into country shorelines this morning with much improved wind conditions providing smooth wave faces. Surf is still a little disorganized with short period interval energy topping out in the double to triple overhead high range at most locations. There are a few rogue sets still capping on the outer reefs but it appears this swell has already peaked and will be on a slow decline through the weekend. Partly sunny in the morning, then mostly sunny with isolated showers in the afternoon. Light winds becoming north around 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 20 percent. Short-Term Forecast for North Shore: Broad angled/short to mid period WNW-NNW swell holds, offering consistent double to triple overhead+ waves across the North Shore. Standout reefs produce sets up to 18-22 feet+ on the face. Surf continues to be rather jumbled, but better conditions than it has been. This swell will start to ease by later tonight into tomorrow morning. http://supconnect.com/news/sunset-beach-pro-sup-2015-it-s-on

As promised I would give a report on my trip to Fiji. I booked it thru waterways.com and stayed on Namotu, which is the smaller island next to Tavarua. They hold about 26 people versus over a 100. Great vibe, you mingle with all the folks there. There are 4 main breaks that the boats take you to at your beck and call; Cloudbreak (hard core left barrels on a shallow reef), Namoutu Lefts (much more mellow lefts, 100 Yard waves with countless cutbacks), Wilkes ( throaty right that is on a shallow reef), Swimming Pools (super fun easy left with no consequences). I have attached a bunch of random photos. This was a trip of a lifetime for me since I got to kite and SUP. Flight was easy 12 hours from LAX. Cost was cheap at $3400 all inclusive except booze (yes flight). Ralph hooked me up with a huge board bag that I put two sups and a kitesurfboard in. It was $120 each way(under 66lbs and under 9 feet), no problems, no damage.

It was too windy to surf and not windy enough to Kitesurf....so I thru up the 9m and grabbed my 7-6 L41 SimSup and caught some bombs....

Im heading to Nomatu in three weeks and am torn on which board to bring. I love my Simsup 7'-6 x 29 for my local beach break in Huntington Beach and love my 7'-11 x 29" for my Hawaii trips, it handles the bigger waves way better and gives me more glide and is more forgiving. If (when) it gets windy I will kitesurf my surfboard.
Has anyone been there? Any advice would be appreciated. Forecast is all over the map and really too early to tell, it may be a last minute call......unless I take them both

What an awesome event put on by #PerformancePaddling Candice Appleby and Tony Vela! The youth talent was mind blowing...my hat is of to these two for putting on an amazing venue for the future of this sport. Thanks Ralph @supposition for letting me know about it or I would have missed it. Below are some pics of my son Aidan (12yrs) on his Joe Blair Custom 6'-4", who placed 4th in his heat against some stiff competition. Bolsa Chica had some fun but challenging conditions with the South wind on it all day. What a great day....

Super fun rare day when Seal Beach went off on the South Side. 20 minutes between sets but the wait was worth it. More shots at www.hbsurfaction.com
