Gear Talk / Re: quad fin setup
« on: February 05, 2011, 06:12:46 AM »
I just looked on the Futures web site to get the answer. WOW, the web site has completely changed for the worse since I last rode Futures (about a year ago). You can't tell what rear fin they are sending when you order their quads.

Going by the way is used to be, the VFJC1 would include a 4" symmetric foiled rear fin. I'd order the VFJC1 quads. It should be a complete 4 fin set and cost around $50-60 when you find it on the web.

If I were going to splurge on high end fins, then I'd call PSH and order their quad set before I'd buy some of the other $100+ fin sets.

I am glad that I am not the only one unable to figure out the Futures website!

I can't find a VFJC1 quad set ,the  VFJC1 they describe sounds like just a single fin?
And it is a Vektor and not a V2 foiled fin for what it is worth.

I am in South Afrika calling PSH is not an option....

Beware of GL quads and Futures Controllers. They are magic fins for "some" boards and slow and stiff on others.

It depends on how well the Coreban rails and shape work. If it doesn't need those huge fins to work, you don't want them. Normal fins will be faster and looser.

I'd start with a normal set. Maybe simple Vector IIs about 4 5/8 in the front with 400 symmetric rears. That's a standard common set of Futures you can find almost anywhere. And not very expensive.

Not having a shop nearby I will have to order from the website, but I am having trouble finding the fins you advice.
Should I get two F4's in the rear, they are 4.38" ,the website doesn't say anything about the foil, are they symmetric?
For the fronts, should I get the VII FJC1,it is 4.58" ?

I really like them to be not expensive...

This is what the futures website says about their GL quads:

Front Height: 5.40" Base: 4.44" 2D Area: 18.48"
Rear Height: 4.66" Base: 3.99" 2D Area: 13.63"

This is a lot more fin  then the 6" middle fin and the two 3,5" sidebiters I have under my Fusion now.

They say nothing about profiles on their website...

I have an Icon and a Fusion and would like to try them as a quad.
Should i just get two fins of about 5" with one flat side as fronts and two symmetrical fins of about 4" as backs?

It is all new to me so please tell me exactly wich futures fins I should get.

The GL Quad set by Futures seems to be a bit big to me and are all four fins symmetrical?

That is also  very usefull info raf  ;D

Futeres offers the GL-QUAD but I dont see any info on the foil of the fronts and rears

Or I could just get one of these Futures set : FSA4 or Controller Quad which are not specifically for sup's but also no info on foils.

All fins in these sets are bigger then the four 3,5" that came with the fusion.....

I have a Coreban Fusion 9'0"x29,5" and would like to try it as a quad fin.
What size fins would be a good startingpoint?
I have four 3,5" fins but that seems a bit to small.
My weight is 85 kg (185lbs).

And what about the Starboard Wave carbon paddle
How stiff, durable etc is it?
How does it compare with a Kialoa Shaka Puu in size  and handling?
The Shaka Puu is 75% more expensive for me to acquire......
