Hawaii / Blue Planet is moving! Big Sale and Board Auction
« on: February 09, 2020, 04:35:50 PM »
We are moving!  Our new shop will be only a few minutes away from our current location, closer to Ala Moana center at 1221 Kona Street.

Thanks to our great customers and staff, we had a good 10 year run at our Ward Ave location, but we are excited about moving to our new location.  The new shop is less than a mile away and with ample parking. We will continue operations at our Ward location until the end of February and be opening at our new Kona Street location in early March. We plan on having a soft opening while we get everything set up and will do our best to keep you updated via social media and email. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the shop 808-596-7755.

It’s a quick turnaround and will be a lot of work for us to move in such short order, but we will continue to strive to provide the great customer service we always have and look forward to making our new location your go to surf/sup/foil shop. In conjunction with our move, we are blowing out inventory to help make the move easier: $799 for all Blue Planet board 2019 models and older (board & fins & exclude carbon boards), $499 for our Rock Solid boards, and we will also be running an online auction,  For those living off-island, you can shop or bid from home and have the board shipped to you.

Online Auction Link: https://www.32auctions.com/blueplanetsurf2020auction

If you are not sure what to get, please come to our clinic next Sunday, Feb. 16th and try our fleet of over 40 demo boards that will also be available to purchase at great prices, for details: https://www.blueplanetsurf.com/service/free-sup-clinic/

My plan is to test all the best foils on the market this year to see how they perform for wing foiling in different conditions.  I heard great things about Levitaz from a kite foiler friend so I contacted them to see if they would send me a demo foil.  They sent me a complete set of their Shaka foils and masts to test out and I'm super excited to give them a try.  The design, fit and finish on these "Made in Austria" foils is superb.  The stainless steel fuselage is super solid and streamlined.   The relatively low aspect wings look like they will be easy and fun to use and work well in the surf.  This is the equipment I got in the demo kit:
Shaka wings: M front wing (1500 cm2), L front wing (2000 cm2), rear wing (300 cm2)
two stainless steel fuselages: 55 cm and 60 cm
Carbon masts with plate mounts in 60, 70, 80 and 96 cm
Angle shims for rear wings (+- .6 degrees)
Angle shims for plate mount to board connection

This is a beautiful foil kit, thank you Levitaz!  I have not tried the foils on the water yet but will get out soon and post some video of the gear in action shortly.
For more information on Levitaz Shaka foils:
https://levitaz.com/shop/product/shak...

I'm also showing some other new gear that will be featured in upcoming videos on the Blue Planet Surf YouTube channel, including the Maui Fin Company Hydros foils, Armstrong foils, Blue Planet Carver foils and more.  I'm also planning to test and post more videos on different hand kite wings, including Duotone wings, Ozone Wasp wings, Ulman Sails wings, F-one swing wings and others.
If you want me to test specific gear, please let me know and I will try to get my hands on it to include it in my 2020 video tests as well.    Wing foiling is such a new sport and the equipment is evolving quickly to meet the unique demands of flying over the water with a sail in your hands.

Downwind and Racing / Molokai to Oahu Race 2019
« on: July 26, 2019, 02:06:44 PM »
The race is this Sunday, check this page for the start list and live tracking:
http://www.molokai2oahu.com

Prone Solo and teams start at 7:30 am
SUP Solo and teams start at 8:00 am
Foil Solo and teams start at 9:30 am

I originally signed up to do the race on my 18' x 25" dugout unlimited board.   The forecast looks pretty good with the surface currents and wind going in the right direction.  The winds also look pretty strong and steady.   Last year I really struggled on the dugout when conditions got rough at the end so I decided to change divisions and use a 14 x 28 Bump Rider, which is stable, predictable and fast in the bumps.  The race is always brutal, especially the last 5-10 miles, so using a more stable board should make it a little more manageable.

I got all my gear ready this morning, here are the essentials and screenshots of the surface currents and wind forecasts for 11 am on Sunday, good luck to all competitors!

We are very proud to announce an exciting new project/product that we are launching on Kickstarter: The Blue Planet Balance Surfer. What initially started as a quest for comfort, has now evolved into a patent-pending design that provides 3 different levels of balance challenge in 1 tool-less Board.

This is the preview link, the campaign will go live tomorrow, Tuesday:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rstehlik/multi-purpose-balance-board-blue-planet-balance-surfer?ref=nilj7e&token=a03bedc2

Competing and training for long-distance races like the Molokai to Oahu race kept me in shape but I was still experiencing back and neck discomfort after long days sitting at my computer.  My chiropractor recommended raising my monitor to eye level, and I realized if mounted it on an arm I could use it as a standing desk as well.  Standing up regularly helped but I was still prone to bad posture and would constantly lean against my desk and load one hip with all my weight. But after using an old balance rocker board I used for SUP training, I noticed how my posture improved from the small balance rocker which was requiring me to stand upright and centered yet still allowed me to focus on my work.  From that sprang the idea of developing an easy to use balance rocker board for office use that could easily be adjusted to also provide a challenging balance workout for the boardsports I love.  I began designing and prototyping new versions and here we are today.
With 2 previously successful Kickstarter campaigns and such a great experience interacting with the crowdfunding community, we obviously thought of Kickstarter right away when deciding how to launch this product. We love bringing new products to this community and hope you can support us in this next launch, as a backer pledging your support to this product launch, you will be rewarded with a board at less than 50% of the retail price and the early backers get the best value.  We will ship the Balance Surfer to backers anywhere in the world but if you live on Oahu you can choose the pick up at the shop option and save on shipping fees.

Aloha, Robert Stehlik, founder/ owner

Foil SUP / First time riding the Lift eFoil- video review
« on: March 10, 2019, 05:36:28 PM »
I had the chance to demo the Lift eFoil with Nick, the Hawaii distributor.  The price in Hawaii is $12,800 which is a lot of $$'s but it really is an amazing piece of equipment, it's kind of like a Tesla that can fly over the water.  Here is our video review:
