Bit of chat on the 999 thread about these new progressive tails.

I'm riding the BSC 890 and 810 with the 390 for lighter conditions but mainly the 420 for powered.

So any views on what size progressive tail to get and what it'll give me that the 390 and 420 won't?

Been using a centre front strap but want to try a narrow V on the front, as that's what my inserts allow. Tried making normal V fit but it doesn't.

Anyone know if I can buy one or if others have made one/found a solution?

Cheers

I started this thread when I dropped from 115L to takuma tk 85L.
Today I dropped to takuma tk65L, I'm 77kg and it was a great start today, easy to start doing the stink bug start and gybes were effortless. Only had 30 mins before wind dropped, whereas I could have slogged in on my 85l, the 65l needs a bit of pressure in the wing to slog at water level. But overall, board was really easy to pump on foil and ride, I'll keep the 85l for light/gusty days but the moment there's enough wind I'll be on the 65L.

I had the 1060 and 910 but really only used the 910. I’m 77kg and found I could manage on the 910 from light to strong wind, but wanted something a bit extra.

The 890/420 combo is fast but also a good crawl speed. It turns really well.

The wind today was up and down on my 3.5m and I had no trouble pumping onto the foil in the lulls but also felt very comfortable when I was overpowered and going fast.

Took Dawasup advice and got the 890. Had first session today with my 420. Great foil, faster and better in every way, also great bottom end. Lots to learn on it, but really pleased with my change.

Whilst talking stabilisers, I put the 420 on my 910 instead of my usual 390 today. What a difference, more speed and glide, similar turning but less lift. Had rear leg burn instead of my usual neutral legs. Think I’ll try moving the mast forward a smidge.

Guys,
I’m still dithering on my next foil set. I’m 77kg with 6,4.5,3.5,2.5 wings. I have the 1060 and 910 which I use in a 1:9 ratio. I can’t afford to make a mistake so do I go 980/880 or 930/830? I ride choppy onshore waves mostly. I guess the 980/880 will span what I use the 910 in but was thinking if the 930 low end is like my 910 then I could do 930/830?
Guidance is appreciated.

Thinking about this inflatable for a travel board but I want to add foot straps!
Any suggestions as to how?

Cheers

I’ve had 4 sessions on my Score 4.5. More powerful than my V 2 4.5, more camber, but felt it has a better high end too. Windows are good, and just everything is a bit more refined, not that V2 wasn’t, but tweaks to panels, handles etc

Pleased with it but the V2’s are still great, love my 3.5/2.5. Only updated my 4.5 as it’s my most used size at 77kg.

After 1yr winging I’m getting up and going well we on smaller sized wings than I would have 6 months ago, they can be pumped up hard for max performance or with a little softer feeling for better gust munching, although you’ll lose some pumping ability, but if it’s windy enough it doesn’t matter.

I’ve been at this for a year now from a non foiling windsurf/kitesurf background. I definitely think you can disappear down a rabbit hole with gear, changing, swapping foils and having good/bad days that could be the result of the swap or just could be you or different water conditions messing with u.

I am now down to a 1060/910 and 390 gap for all conditions and I just focussed on my skill. I’m riding better, foot swap gybes 80% of the time. Once I can ride waves more consistently and tack, then I might think about the next set up.

Just like in windsurf and kitesurf, less gear/options means u just get out and ride rather than worry about going in and changing something.

Get an RDX neoprene weight belt and stick a hook or reel leash and uv got a perfect wing harness.
