Anyone done any infusion layups? I've recently watched a lot of youtube on this technique, and it seems to me that its exactly like wet vacuum bagging, but with way more advantages. This is a favourite. Can't see why it wouldn't work over a polystyrene core with low vacuum and long pot life resin for doing a super low weight board. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_J6SGZZolbU

I've never heard an analysis of BS like this fine fellow sets out in this video. Its a frank discussion of what BS is, the uses to which it is put, and its dangers.
I'd like to stand up a bit for BS. Couples might not initially meet long enough to form a bond without it. Without flash and razzle-dazzle, entertainment wouldn't be as entertaining. Advertising wouldn't rise above Dudley Moore's "Its boxy but its good". Passion in debate wouldn't be as passionate.

I want one of these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzxdqHeHB58Rough guess break-even would be about 15 to 30 usable tubes. I can image that someday soon we could wind a monocoque board. Probably now if the board was all convex or flat shapes across the filament path. The winding head would have to be able to lay fibre into a concave depression and somehow make it stick for footwells and concave bottoms.

Having recently driven I-5 from Bellingham to LA and back, I was amazed to see how low Lake Shasta water levels are. Central Valley farmers are pissed-off for sure, and the price of my lettuce in Vancouver keeps rising. But in LA, cars were clean and shiny, lawns were green and we could wash our boat down with a firehose. I have photos, but these are better: http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Dramatic-California-drought-before-and-after-5756861.php#photo-6851694The article says the drought has been three years, and water levels are at 60-70% depleted, therefor a depletion rate of 20-23% per year is in play. What happens in two more years of drought?

Now that winter seems to have arrived early, I find that my new carbon paddle and the graphite-coloured water are the same colour. I've dropped it a few times and had a few anxious moments looking for it.
I'm going to work on not letting go. But knowing that stuff happens, some painted day-glow bands or reflector tape seem like a good idea. Anybody else with similar experience?

I'm looking for a board for my wife and daughters. We do protected ocean flatwater ranging from glass to confused boat wash with wind chop.
It has to be sub-$1000 and lightweight and durable.
Would the Ron House mentioned above fit the bill?
Its 29 wide. Research on the zone seems to call this board stable and no mention of it being delicate. The potential for hot deck was the worst of the criticisms.
The owner is asking $1,000. Thoughts?

In honour of and respect for Bigreen's "what would you shape" thread, we need the same thing for paddles. We haven't had a good paddle build thread for a while.
Sometime, when there is time, I'm going to make my second paddle, maybe even attempt a shaft. My first was E-glass over XPS and cedar and weighs 1013g. Its very stiff so a bit overbuilt.
1) Can anyone shed light on roughly how many layers of carbon or glass one has to wrap to make a not-too-delicate shaft? 2) How does one get the set laminate off the mandrel? 3) Would a laminate over a foam core for the shaft work? I figure let it cure in a length of angle iron so it stays true.
So lets hear it from the pros, the experienced guys, the bodgers (me), and the dreamers (me again). All are welcome here.
