I just ordered a Slick so the question now is what diameter shaft to go with.

I have 2 potential sacrificial paddles to choose from. A  C4 paddle shaft. That is 1.229" (31mm) in diameter.
Or AXE paddle who's shaft is 1.07" (27mm) diameter which is more standard size, the same as my KeNalu paddle which seems too flexy.

I have zero experience with a boom so no iidea which might be better. I can say I still like my AXE paddle, but not the C4 mainly because it's fiberglass blade only used it to loan out. Any thoughts? Is 31mm too big for the wing's pockets?
Thanks

Holding .06 nice Chan. With those doge types I buy a little when it looks like it can't go lower. Then when it doubles i take 50%. Then every time it doubles after that take 50% and so on. I'm too old to HODL

Real nice looking board! Do these darker color boards require any extra precautions from the hot sun?

I know what you mean when walking a drill bit on a broken screw.
Before you attempt to reverse drill.  I'd soak it over night with generous amounts of PB blast or similar products. A little heat is alway helpful to.

Make sure your center punch has a sharp point. I like those spring loaded push center punch's. If the screw is domed you may want to sand it flat if possible.  If you get the center punch hole right you'll get it out.

I'd really like to get a slick 5m but it's mentioned that the Aluminium booms won't be ready until May and no date on carbon booms.

I'd rather have a carbon boom but know prices on that yet. I'll guess I'll wait until everything's in stock in May there might be more options by then.

the number one thing I hate about my Airrush 7.0 is the length of the strut, which loves to dig into the surface and stand itself up straight. But a close second is the weight. anytime you go off the wind--even just broadening up the reach, the wing gets heavy. Downwind it's all I can do to keep it up. In the light winds that big wings are made for, turning downwind means having little to no support. so yeah, light weight for big wings is a huge deal--at least it is for me.

Unfortunately, there isn't a 7.0 for the OR wing, or I'd order it. Fortunately, I will soon be where it doesn't matter so much.

fifteen psi in the boom--that's going to be as stiff as carbon.
Large wings being light weight was the main reason I went with the Takoon line. The 7m with f-one type weight made it much more of a pleasure the heavier wing I had before.
Thing is it seems like theres a tipping point for these bigger wings. Below 0.9 lbs per meter just works good. The other wing I tried is 1.0 lbs per meter at times seems like work.
A 7 or 8 meter that weighed below 0.6 lbs per meter could be gold for my neck of the woods.

This is awesome. Thanks for sharing this N Tuna. I had no idea this could be done with freighters and so close to where I live. I thought it was strictly a oil tanker thing. This is now on the 2021 list of things to do. Maybe more of the foiling version trip than a surfing trip but we'll have to figure that one out.

Apparently Eleveight will have 3m 4m5m & 6m. It was unclear weather this will be in the v1 or V2 said to be coming out in May

It looks like Gong are no longer producing the convertor fuse as it is no longer listed on their website ☹️
They look like they have them back in stock in the kites section.

Wow nice work on that NP to Axis mod

It seems for now the Eleveight only comes in a 4 metre size --  I think they'll need more sizes if they want to make ago of it.
Absolutely, I missed that. I was reading some Tech details that had me assuming other sizes. The 4m only size is a deal breaker for me. At this point I don't know why anyone would want a wing that's only available in one size. Maybe if your already kiting or windsurfing and just want try it out a wing under perfect conditions...

I'm waiting for the Slick. The Eleveight looks decent as well but it's too hard to tell if those rear handles would be needed regularly. I don't want handles at all :)
The rear handles do seem strange at first, but it does makes me wonder if that could be a "best of both worlds" application thing going on? Maybe like a better angle for your leading hand, like when leaning into it?

The up and coming wings with inflatable struts that incorporate hard booms handles have a certain appeal to them.  The "coming soon to a store near you" DUOTONE Slick, now has company with the ELEVEIGHT WFS-V1.

I need a 5m wing to fill the gap in my wing quiver and hoping I'll get to try these wings out.

Gear Talk / Re: Winter Gloves for the wing-ding
« on: February 07, 2021, 11:50:05 AM »
I have been winter winging in the Oneill 5mil Lobster Gloves and staying toasty. Using a harness with gloves is key IMO so you get a rest for your hands.

https://us.oneill.com/products/copy-of-psycho-tech-1-5mm-glove
I love the build quality and the warmth of the 5m Psycho Tech mittens, but I found them to be super slippery on the board. And the shape being flat seems to require a good bit of extra effort to hold on to the wing as well.  When I wore those my forearms would ware out really fast. Night and day difference compared to the Kokata.  But I don't were a harness, yet.

Maybe someone else have some gloves or mittens that they can recommend. I forgot Bill has tons of experience paddles and probably gloves too.

This year the trick seems to be finding the right size of anything wetsuit related.

This is my first cold water season and finding cold water gear that works and fits has been a up hill battle. Closest water sports shop is 400 mile away so shopping has been mostly trial and error online, so I thought I'd share what I found as far as gloves go.

I found two pair that work pretty good with my wing ding. The finger gloves that work the best for me are the Ride Engine pre-cruved finger 2mm gloves. They don't require any extra effort to hold the wing handles which is a big deal for me. But on some slippery surfaces like my foilboard it does require a some extra strength to keep it from slipping out of my hands. Strange that the Thailand made gloves I've seen all have slippery-er grip surface coating on the palms. The China made gloves I've seen seem to have better palm grip surface. Anyway, the warmth is good for what they are 2mm no lining gloves. If I could figure out how to improve the surface texture these would be the perfect glove for moderate cold days.

https://rideengine.com/products/2mm-gloves

The other pair I like are mittens that are really nice on colder days for my wimpy hands. Kokatat Inferno Mitts 3mm with some nice fleece lining. The grip is perfect as everything sticks to the palm really good. The curved finger shape and the grippy surface texture sticks good to my board and paddles... better than bare hands. Zero extra effort to hold anything. I'd go as far as saying they are a net positive gain on holding onto things. The down side to the Kokatat mittens is the cuffs are on the loose side and can let water in. The sizes run small. Also the quality of the seams are NOT near as good as the Thailand made Ride Engine or O Neill psycho Tech mittens. But they perform so much better than my 5 mm psychotech mittens that I don't care that they likely won't last as long.

So for anybody who can't handle cold hand these are two gloves you might want too consider.

Perfect timing. I was just looking at winter gloves and the Kokatat Inferno mitts were one of the ones I was interested in. So I have two questions for you.

If you fell and were in the water, would the Kokatat mitts let in a lot of water?

And secondly, if you had on a full wetsuit, so the mitts went over top of the wetsuit sleeves, do you think that would do enough to create a tighter seal and stop water coming in?

Thanks for any information you can provide.
Yeah, I tucked them in the wetsuit I and it good that way for me
I suppose if you have bigger wrist or a thicker wet suit sleeves they might even be ok over the sleeves for some.
With kokata get one size bigger than their size chart (or your normal glove size)
