Easy to do. confuse me that is. My costs are similar except for the bike that was 1500 as it came with nuvinci hub that failed. So converted to cassette. Another sum. And then an extra battery. My bike frame is aluminum. You can do better with a complete bike than I did. I was some what early in, and not a specialist or informed. I am happy with my wheels for off road riding. Its primary use is beach, but I take it in the mountains for silent hunting. Now with the extra range less concern about pushing. I have a 3000 watt motor for you if you want it. I don't need it. 20 mph is plenty fast.

v 2 Battery from Luna & shipping & sales tax and premium clear case. It was around $750 delivered. So now I have two 52 volt 13.5 ah batteries on the bike. Not cheap. 1st battery case broke after a couple of uses. NO support on warranty. After two years of use and a totally broken housing I thought it was done. Nah just my bad diagnostics.
Its ok. I like having the extra mileage. I get so remote when I use the bike, I like the one less worry.

1200 watts only twice the wattage of my v2 luna at a cost of around 700 delivered. Must be nice to be able to understand and build.
I screwed up not diagnosing and bought a new battery because I thought my old one failed. The battery housing was broken from hard rides on the beach. After new battery got plugged in and bike still did not work, I did more thorough diagnosis only to find a plug in contact was not tight enough..
So now I have both mounted for those long beach rides. I have pushed the bike 6 miles in the past on soft sand with 50 lbs of rocks on it. No fun but not no more.
Because I am inadequate at electrical stuff, I only have around $1500 tied up in batteries. The good part I have doubled my range. I did up my soldering ability. for cost Lets see, $1200 bike, $1500 in batteries and $600 for the motor kit. Yikes you might do better with a complete bike.
I figure less than 20 lbs for the power. Totally worth having the extra range for my use. Power more than makes up for weight.

Got the board last Thursday. Got my first chance to get it wet yesterday.
It surfs as nice as it looks. It took about a third of a mile to get my balance paddling. I probably rode 20 waves. Very nice, a cruzzy type of nice. Not a bottom turn cutback bottom turn cutback type of board. It does it but spaced out compared to tight.
Paddling out thru waves was also nice. Most of my longer boards seems to get caught by passing waves and just you get stopped. Not this board, pops right over and keeps going.
Not sure yet, but this board may work well for our outer reefs that rarely break.
Rgbar, this is a great design. I may have got an early one as mine says search and has deck plugs for a net. I also have a mast base for wind surfing and looks like a vent plug. I pulled and reseated the vent plug before use to make sure it was tight. Was not sure about the fins. Looks like it came with the option of single, twin or quad. Looks like trailing fin is large for thruster. I pulled a bunch of spare fins to see about thruster options but ended up using the four for quad. So far so good.
Thank you Rick and Jeff for making it happen. I wish Rick could have delivered. This board is sitting in my beach trailer on the ready. Right next to it is a new 10' long board I also really like. Choices, choices nice to have.

Has down winding replaced wind surfing for gorge activities?
What would you rather do, if you could do both?

Experiment
I used the smallest fins in the back boxes on a 8'5. I was very happy. It was loose, could slide at will and with back foot placement still had drive.
Try different setups to see what you like best. As tw said, they are all unique.

Hi Badger I have boards the sizes your talking about. A different brand. I have the 10'6 at 158 liters the 10' @ 150 liters and now another 10' at 125 liters. All boards under 30" width. All boards carbon builds. I weigh 20 to 30 pounds more than you.
The smallest liter wise is the best. I can paddle in wind, down the beach a mile or so to surf. It has the bow like the outer reef which I see works really well.
Maybe consider a smaller 10'er. If you can't find the pop out, then go custom.
All of these (my boards) are the high end carbon pop outs. To me, worth the extra cost for the build.
My suggestion keep the 10'6. Look at a smaller volume wise 10'er or get the OR 10'er. My larger 10'er's don't see much sun anymore. They were and are fun, but I found something better.
You know this won't be the last one. Not for me either. I have a point break inbound. Totally different board.

You did good NW. Maybee this thread should be in the share the stoke area.
So when your friends leave, stop by a sup store. I bet they got enough stoke they will buy their own. No store near close, War dog near online.
I have over 14 sup. You could call them guest boards, but all were purchased for my various uses and upgrades. I have it covered so to say. No problem bringing friends, but mostly used by the 4 grandkids we are raising and the other dozen we are not raising. Gotta have a few paddles for the crew.
Your friends were able to use your two very different boards. They must have had good balance and strength, especially to handle the hammer the first time. I would ask if they are ready to make their own commitment.
Round out your quiver. I don't see a 14' or 8', how about a inflatable like ULi or maybe even the hobie peddle board. That would be interesting for flat water and probably be popular with your crew.
I started surfing around the same time you did. Only break was serving Uncle Sam. I give you an invite to head to PNW and try some of our offerings and friendships. Bring your wetsuit.
You make it interesting NW. Keep sharing the stoke.

One wheel is the closest thing to surfing I have ever ridden on land. You might check it out. Costs more, dress for the ride or end up like me, ko'd over an hour to awaken with heavenly nurses and docs stichen me up. It carves, accelerates and decelerates much like a surfboard. Toss it on the sand and carve up the beach watching the surf, turn around, switch stance, carve and watch the surf going back. I would get several miles of use then head back, charge and do over. Now the grandkids line up to use. Many u tube videos available to see in use. Old fart I am older than u and gave up skateboards long ago.

Aye Captain Most who have been with this for a while have had many boards. Experience helps with choice. Since your at Kook level, most boards will work well. Just get one, use it and before long you will be wanting another.

I thought I was a regular surfer. I started surfing in the mid 60's.
My regular surfing thru out the years included body surfing boogie boarding long boarding short boarding back to long boarding and still long boarding a 10' sup board
Since I have been surfing so long I have a pretty good cutback. I also like all surfers. Even buttheads. why would anyone be scared? Its not like surfers are boogie men. Learn to surf by rules of line up and that should take care of most issues if you know how to surf and ride a wave to its end.
If not stay off the crowded good breaks. Learn at the lesser spots.

Another denier. For one I don't often surf double overhead or larger and if I did my board would be a leash distance away when critical. For another, I like to go up and over standing. Very satisfying to make it. And if its to big to climb over I usually wait for the lull. I would image most surfers who started before leashes were used, probably are not seeing the need.
If it makes you feel safer, go for it. Its your choice.
Leashes are different because they do make me and others feel safer. One yank and my board is back where it belongs and it did not take out the kids in the lineup.
Halloween is coming. Tutu anyone.
