I have used my 2.8 five times in the last 7 days and continue to be impressed by it.  The handles are great.  Stiff and comfortable.  First and 3rd work perfectly for me.

I bought a friend's used Starboard 2.0 so as to not miss big days while waiting for my small wing of choice (2.2 BRM).  It is not a great wing but acceptable and does the job of getting me upwind, which is all I need it to do on a big day.  My biggest complaint is that my back hand wants to grab exactly between the third and fourth handles.  You might consider the 2.2 BRM or 2.4 Swing V2 or 2.5 Ensis.  (Cabrinha also makes a 2 and a 2.5 but I was told by a local retailer who sells both that the Starboard is a much better wing.)

I got the 2.8 recently and have had a couple of sessions in 25-28 avg. winds.  I think it is a very good wing.  It is light and stiff and handles being overpowered very well.  A minor complaint is that my 2.8 tends to roll side to side a bit when depowered and flips upside down more often than an Fone when on the water.

yeah def more interested in waves and doing downwinders.  plenty of windy flat days here on the north shore in the summer.  no problems staying upwind, and I fell comfortable in any size waves... the wall/rufus/arlington are def on my list.

I understand your level now.  Look East first for a big day.  They don't come that often but when they do, you want to be there.  Otherwise, on most typical summer days, you will probably hit Swell/Hatchery/Cheap beach.   That's where you will find the wave addicts. The current is pretty fast now so getting back up wind is effortless.

I hang out at Jensen because my wife can find some flattish water while I go play in the channel but the above is my preference when she is not going out.

There is a FB group that some of the more experienced locals are on.

I find the ikitesurf pro forecast to be the most reliable.  It is updated live 3 times a day.  Many of us are still wearing 3/2 wetsuits though you definitely see people wearing less.   As far as locations, there are a lot of options if you are able to stay upwind.   The wind quality varies quite a bit on a given day and it helps to pay close attention to the lulls to find the best winds.  For example, on a given day the Event Site could be averaging 20 but wth lulls/gusts of 7/35 while Viento a few miles away could be 20 but 16/24.  If you are interested in waves, the best locations in the Corridor are Hatchery/Swell but the best waves are East on bigger days.  (The Wall, Rufus and Arlington).  The flattest water for a given wind speed is at Jensen/Hook followed by Viento and Stevenson if you are looking for a day to work on some maneuvers.

You will find a lot of wingers on the lawn at Jensen.  My wife and I are there often.

Hey guys, just chiming in here I’ve been riding Armstrong foils for a while now and my favored set up here for wing foiling here in the SF bay area is the HS 1050 front wing, if the winds are lighter -which is rare for this time of the year -I’ll switch to the HS 1250. I just got the HA 1125 and I rode it once and was completely frustrated - 100 cm mast, 70 cm fuse, flying V 200 tail wing, and 1° Tail shim which I’ve been loving with the HS wings but with the HA wing it felt so weird, the wing wanted to pop up right away and then would fall back down and seemed super sensitive and twitchy. In a turn it had a tendency to want to roll out of the turn in the middle which could easily be rider technique but I haven’t experienced at all with the HS wings. After reading through this thread I think I may try it again with a shorter fuse and maybe a different tail and no shim but I’m definitely not convinced yet that it’s the right wing for me.... any Suggestions on the other components or shims would be most welcome. Sounds like running the mast all the way forward in the track may be helpful as well?

What you describe is exactly what I experienced during my first 15 minutes with the 1125.  It is very pitch sensitive which is expected as the aspect ratio increases.  You have to adjust your riding style to make smaller and more gentle changes to the pitch.  Having said all that, the 232 makes it much, much easier.  I have had about 10 sessions now and my favorite setup is 232 on 60 cm A+ with no shim.  Mast all the way forward using the holes.  It is by far my favorite foil of all time and every session gets better.  I was out yesterday with a 3.5 m wing and the glide, pump and turning was just amazing.  Even the hot shot kiters in the channel seemed impressed (Gorge event site).

A couple of other things I have learned.  For take offs, point a bit more downwind and build up speed while keeping board flat.  If you try to pump up without adequate speed, it will just flop back down.    It will glide better than anything you have tried in the smallest stuff but you have to be high in the water and keep it horizontal to get the maximum glide.  Carving for me requires hard back foot pressure.  I was able to ventilate during a couple of hard turns yesterday and stay on the wave.

FWIW, I am a very average, middle aged foiler but with some persistence am achieving a pretty decent level of riding with this foil.  Don't give up on it too soon.

86 cm carbon mast, 1150, short red fuselage, 390 and 420.  All covers plus Armstrong mast cover.  Hardware and spares.  Asking $1500.  In Hood River.  Currently not shipping or selling separately.

The mast, 390 and 420 have had very little use and are in excellent condition.  The 1150 and fuselage have had more use but are in good condition with only superficial signs of use.

Hey Phil

What size KT board are you on? Looks like you're dialed in.

It's 4-9 x 75 L Custom build.  Light and stiff.  I am very happy with it.  They were very good to work with and will build you exactly what you want.

As far as technique, keeping the foil close to the surface makes a massive difference, as does your angle of attack.  On small stuff, I find keeping the board horizontal helps.  It doesn't matter as much on bigger waves.  And of course, the line you take on a wave.

Equipment wise, higher aspect will glide better and you want the the foil to be a bit faster than wave speed but not too fast.  Too slow is the worst.  It is a major bummer when you get on something good and then it just passes under you because your foil is too slow.

I used to be super meticulous about making sure they were perfectly dry before putting them away in their bags.  After talking to several people here, I now just roll them up and bag them.  We do use them frequently here at the Gorge.  If I was putting them away for several weeks, I would make sure they were completely dry.  If I want to dry a wing, I will lay it out in my van overnight.  I try to minimize sun exposure.

does anyone know the weight of a 6 m Swing?

I would advise strongly against hanging deflated wings to dry.  It increases your risk of blowouts next time you inflate.

I think these folks implemented some really good ideas for this concept.  It will only get better.
