Ok even though I try to restrain myself from overtightening when I change front wings... I think over time the aluminum threads just can't withstand the constant stress.. And I change between the hps 1050,880,and the ART999 quite a lot depending on Conditions.

Why doesn't AXIS build the fuse with ssteel Helicoils already installed? At least for the M6 holes? Weight? Cost? Problems with ssteel bolts in ssteel threads?

Already paid a local machin shop to fill, redrill, tap this once.. Totally screws up the anodizing (any suggestion on what the best PAINT is after the anodizing gets f@cked?)

Now it's the OTHER M6 (on the front wing attachment) that has stripped and I'm thinking to buy a an M6 x 1 helicoil kit on Amazon.. Any comments please.. It's there any reason I should NOT repair all stripped M6 holes in the axis black fuse with these?
I GUESS they are 1cm long? Can't tell for sure from the article description..

Hoping the STAB holes will last longer (honest I only tighten with moderate wrist pressure.. Never CRANKING them down as I do the fuse/mast M8s) but.. Not ready to buy another fuse just yet so..

Advice from the fixit gurus please.

Tried one of these on 2 days ago.. Dime tourist had ir kiting here in cancun.. Very comfy.. The XL fit me snug... Could possibly keep the noggin from getting sliced open by mast or foil.. Dunno if it can be purchased in the states but worth a look!

Juicy gossip INDEED! Thanx for sharing! Any idea on possible dates for release of those handles to us mortals?

34
omg Pono!.. You've hit on the perfect solution.. ARUGULA leading edge for when I get the munchies during the second hour of my sesh... It's brilliant man I luv it

35
DNS I second that emotion 8)
Never was much of a fan for kiting but fue the wing foil is the best.. Just recommend to take the metan clip off the end and just use larks head or other velcro type connector and /or quick release system.

Cowboy.. Did you get over to the south side of the island Mujeres to wing the GARAFON area? With southeast winds we get some sweet rollers in there.. The north side is always pretty flat.

The entire coast of hotel zone from "Punta cancun" down to the Club Med gets pretty good swell with a few days of wind on it.. The very southern area just before Club Med is where a buddy lives and its SOMEWHAT protected from the dreaded Sargassum site to the Rocky point that sticks out to the north from the Med.... Let me know next time you're coming down.. Really want to explore the coasts of Cozumel this year also...

Will have to try a little wax on the board bottom for the "clavicle paddle" and have faith I guess... If they're doing it in Hawaii.. It's gotta be do-able.. Lol

We keep just reading amazing reviews on this product...with the only gripes being (by some) the floppy handles and wishing that OR would hurry up wiht the carbon handle upgrades. Anyone have any inside info about when those handles might go into production?

Has ANYONE had any quality control issues yet? unexpected delams or stitching problems or valve problems with the ORs? Im so close to pulling the trigger on a 6meter....but also Morbidly curious as to the release of other brands Alula offerings...anyone have an idea on when hte DLab doutone might be hitting the market? Other brands?

I read with keen interested the posts that DWIGHT has made about the Tip washout geometry of the OR and it will be very interesting to see if the competitors do something similar or just keep their geometry the same but with stiffer material. Im having such a blast rediscovering our entire coastline with WINGING after 20 years of kiting it that i can ALMOST justify just burning through my lifes savings on all the new and great gear...just hard to believe there arent ANY pet peeves or negative comments about the GLIDE wings yet..jeje...

Thanks so much to ALL the contributors to this thread! After reading by several accounts that the HPS 880 is just as fast and more carvy than the ART999 I was able to hold off investing money that I didnt have and have really enjoyed the HELL out of my 880 for the past 2 months!

But then along comes the 899...faster and looser and carvier...and some have said theyve sold their 880s and switched over 100 percent to the 899...and once again Im in a quandry.

our winds rarely get above 18 knots...and some of the best days in clean waves are 14knots and below. Typically ill be on a 6mt MOJO and my HPS 1050 milking the little swell for all its worth. But NOT just looking to glide on downwinders...more interested in trying to pump and turn and do little carves on the bumps...from what ive read, the 999 isnt so great at TURNING on a wingtip.

So im wondering what will the 899 really give me over the 880? Perhaps I should be swapping my 1050 for a 999 and just enjoy the increased speed and glide and sacrifice a bit of carvyness? Would anyone argue that the 1050 HPS is actually more SURFY than the 999?

Basically, feeling the need to throw some more money away and cant decide if I should "upgrade" my 1050 or my 880. BTWAY...also im still riding only a SHORT fuse and 420 stab.....would anyone care to argue that buying an ULTRAshort fuse and a 375 Progressive might be even MORE of a quiver enhancer than a new ART foil? Thanx again and good winds!

THIS is an excellent thread and one I have toyed with starting with you guys for over 8 months now...but being a LURKER and never actually having a keyboard in front of me has kept me silent...but yall are in trouble cause got the laptop up and running again and we have NO WIND today!

Great points by MTN and others about getting out through the waves in rocky places. I spent ALL of august also in a pacific Baja location with great longboard/SUP waves in the morning and I finally got the confidence to start winging it in 100% offshore gusts winds in the afternoon. I was amazed to watch the Prone foilers flipping their boards (ONE GUY NEVER USED A LEASH...which I just cant grasp the WHY of it...as he ended up having to swim for his board multiple times after the white water tore it from his grasp) and paddling with their exposed Clavicles pressed tightly up against the sharp masts! Just seems like a recipe for disaster or, at the least, a very SLOW healing bone bruise on the collar bone if a wave was to smack the board hard enough...you guys are really doing this while dragging a wing behind you?

Ive tried a few times in flat water...to maneuver my 95 liter board under me so the mast is upright between my LEGS and I can paddle it upside down like that very well...seems it SHOULD be a better option than having the mast against your clavicle...although if a wave was able to throw you BACKwards youd likely castrate yourself...i found it was extra easy to SLIDE off the front of the board quickly and get my nuts away from the mast but again...that was just playing in flat water and without a wing attached to my wrist.

As mentioned by the other offshore wave winger here...this whole process becomes THAT much more complicated when you CANNOT just tow your wing behind you as the wind wants to flip it OVER you and the foil and right into the oncoming wave that you are trying to carefully to pass through/over/under..whatever..

add to that a strong current and SHARP barnacle covered rocks all over the place..wow...mucho stress.
THEN,..you finally get a moment when you are tits deep and CLIMB onto the board onyour knees and GET the wing into your hands..but the wind is 100 percent at your back so the stability on the board SUCKS plus you cant really engage the foil or lean against it cause youre just trying desperateloy to advance to get OVER the next smooth face that is peaking up in front of you...at that moment its SUPER importatnt to really lean FORWARD and make one strong deperate pump with the wing JUST as the tip of the board gets lifted...otherwise youre going over backwards....uuuff...but the REWARDS of then riding for 2 hours on the glassiest of playgrounds and being able to almost just SIT your wing in neutral flying on the cushion of wind / ridgelift as youre pumping and carving wave after wave back towards shore.....seem to make it all worthwhile! Just be careful NOT to get too cocky and try to ride the glorious breaking face TOO far in....mayhem and sadness are just ONE fall away!

Which brings me back to where I would like to pick your brains on this subject of a GOOD fast quick release for the board leash. Im in total agreement that in these situations we absoluetly MUST have a reliable way to quickly release the BOARD..not so much the wing...because a leash tangle in shore pound is probably what i fear the most. Ever since watching the Blue Planet guys talk about REpurposing the Reel Leash Ive been hooked and convinced and oh so happy to be using it. Almost NEVER get any leash/mast tangle and wiht all the seagrass we have to deal with in the Caribbean I cant imagine dragging around even MORE anchor catching grass and plastic etc etc....So ive been using a  basic Pull TUbe/PIN release between my board leash connector dyneema rope and the end of the reel leash on the BIGGER days when I feel like I could end up in punishing shorebreak or the impact zone of the wave spot. Problem I see is that I couuld conceivably accidently activate teh release as im pulling the board back towards me after a fall.

Has anyone dreamed up a DIFFERENT type of lightweight release system that could be easily installed between the board and the harness they might like to share? Some kind of "three ring circus" pin pull like the skydivers use maybe?

We have another great spot in the hotel zone of Cancun that develops lovely swell with strong SE winds but the SHOREPOUND is just gnarly. There we have definately found that swimming the board out to a bouy first can be much safer...then you can put 100 percent attention on keeping your wing alive as you swim out to the board...coming in, we disconnect the board leash out in the deep FIRST...then try to wing in on the BACK of the last wave of the set until the foil almost touches the sand..then TRY to hop off and chase the board in the white water hip deep while keeping the wing HIGH in the air trying not to get hammered by the following waves...usually a mildy successful dismount...At least on this spot in particular not too many rocks so prefer to let the board go for a second (if necesarry) to the possibility of a leash tangle and the board getting behind you, on top of you, on top of the wing...in the washing machine...yikes.

With on or side on winds...seems like eventually we could engineer some kind of harness (velcro flaps like the handles on the OR Glide?) to connect the wing STRUT to our backs?? the leading edge over our heads or just over the shoulders..with the dihedral should still be able to paddle maybe? This would be preferrable to DRAGGING the wing behind where it can totally slow you down as it gets MUNCHED by errant waves...anyone else toyed with this thought?

Good winds!!

Thanx Dwight.. Did just that.. And for ANY poor soul who experienced the same thing with these valves.. MAYBE I can help make things simple for ya.

The mechanism IS very simple and actually ingenious.. Every time we push the red button in the entire stem rotates 90 degrees.. This is because the "post" below the button has little Diagonal "shark teeth" grooves AND there is a plastic red "ring" with tiny embossed raised "triangle" that glides along those angled grooves and causes the entire mechanism to pivot.  90 degrees.. . Each time your press down.

That translates into 'valve locked open " or" valve shut "... So here's where the mechanism fails..

The tiny orange" "ring " is sitting inside a black "cup" which NORMALLY is press fitted onto the rest of the assembly... That is to say.. If the valve is working properly you never SEE the red ring... But.. Since it is just press fitted... Without glue I believe.. This black "cup-ring" can pop off... (this happens when we "snap" pop the valve open and closed due to the string spring it has.. Over and over..) and when you pull the valve out you see BOTH the black cup ring AND the tiny red ring (which should be seated and hidden inside the black one) loose and jostling one another every time you try to open and close..

So sometimes you get lucky and the red ring sits where it should and the valve "stays" open or shut.. But usually it just stays stuck shut.

So ALL we need tu do is with a small piece of wire or a skinney key on your keychain or pocket knife.. It's to guide the little red ring back into the black "cup ring" and then PRESS the cup ring back onto the black stem nice and tight where it used to be.. And VOILA... YOUR valve is good as new.

Caveat... Try NOT to "snap" the valve open and closed repeatedly to avoid this whole process.

Good winds and better waves my friends!

I have another question about these valves please. Thanx to original poster showing HOW to remove... But im actually asking something else.

I have these valves but on my Flysurfer Mojo (which I've been EXTREMELY pleased with for over 150 hours of fun so far) and today.. Out of the blue.. BOTH the strut and LE valves Cannot be "locked open"... I can fill them, thank God, and they hold fine.. But when I press them in to open and dump the air.. Neither one can STAY locked open and I must press the entire time I'm squeezing air out. Anyone else ever go through this? I've turned the little red button to every possible position on the "clock" and tried Tu get it to start open like before but no dice.

Crazy this happened the same day on both valves!
Any diagrams on the web that show exactly the inner workings of this valve? If I pull it out will I have a chance to "MacGyver" fix it or just better off to order new ones from Flysurf or Fone?

Lastly.. Are all these valves made the same or do different companies have slightly different construction of these "push valves"? Ie.. Can I buy an Fone Valve and it should thread right in to the Flysurfer leading edge?

Thanx in advance to whoever saves me time and money.. Merry Xmas!

By ANY chance is anyone liquidating their gear/changing brands etc that might have a used 420 stab? Pm please..  ::)

Hey Flkiter... Any sargasum /seagrass problems in DR? WE are literally DROWNING in the shit by cancun /cozumel... Would be nice to know there is SOME part of the Caribbean that has escaped the "wrath of phosphates/nitrates" 😢

That link is probably WAY LONGER than it needs to be.. But im in a hurry.. You get the idea.. If you watch Dimitri.. He seems to be VERY concerned in this video that the strut bladder can fall and not refill at the front of the strut during inflation. I think this method would add 15 minutes to my inflation time! Lol
Any reason to think that, if you DON'T HANG the wing to dry it,
that this "strut bladder alignment routine" is so terribly important every session?

Have a year treating my  1st gen Swings horribly and (knock wood) no bladder problems at all.

I really like that military quick release buckle, but how marine proof is it?.It might become a corroded lump in a couple months.

Agreed.. I have those connections on my paraglide harness and JUST HANGING IN MY HOUSE here by the ocean the clips corrode terribly.. Doubt it would last 5 days in the Caribbean Ocean salt.. Fresh water wingers could be great

Maybe a nylon buckle spear fishing belt or a velcro thingy like Ponobill is a safer bet for salt water use.
