Glad it’s only a nibble. What’s the size of the perpetrator?

Laird brought one of those on a Mentawais trip a few years ago. Serious. Don’t think it was surfed just used for flat water goofing around..

Pretty sure I met them a couple weeks ago at SanO. They had a Prius stuffed to the gills with shortboards and foils. Super friendly family.

Similar to the DEEP Fireball which is their flatwater speed machine. When they dropped off their boards after the PPG, the 21" wide version was the only one their team rider Lincoln Dews kept with him. He used it in some early season races that were anything but flat water (Carolina Cup Graveyard race) but he switched over the Dryft for the late season events and won the Mercedes Benz SUP World Cup this past weekend. I paddled the 23" wide version and at 175 it felt pretty good in flat water with small chop or bump.

Well the victim was surfing at the time but he's a real paddleboarder (arms only) and an awesome guy at that. I remember one year for the Swamis to Windansea race he paddled 14 miles before daylight from Windansea to the start and turned around to paddle back. A couple years later he paddled 70 mile from San Clemente island.

Sucks that this happened and hope he is back in the water soon. There are a lot more kook SUPers in the lineup than experienced ones who come from a surfing background and from my observations on SM I see a lot of praise for bad habits. I saw a vid last week of a lady taking off going straight and cutting off a longboarder and the comments were all praise about how great she did - even from experienced SUPers. I called her out in a nice way and nobody had anything to say.

That and if you get a hand in the coil after a wipeout you can lose a finger or toe. I've seen it twice in the past couple years. I do use one for SUP foiling but my when I'm falling I really abandon ship.

SanO:  did you see a press release or is this just chatter?  A container of their more popular models landed on the east coast a few weeks ago and were quickly snatched up by the Mid-Atlantic dealers ands they are hoping to do more. South End was flying the Rivy tent & flags at their race last month. The east coast and mid west is still a few years behind California and there is a chance for the brand to continue.

Cook: the 8’2” El Tigre is an incredible board. I wish I never sold mine. If Kenny has a demo you should check it out.

I hate to say it but my foiling experience will be delayed because my hip is so effed. It's in alot of pain and I'm benched for a while but still amped to get strong and learn this! Might be a while though. I'm gonna set the board up and wait it out. I surfed around the injury three days in a row last week and now it's time to rest it.
The KeNalu Iwa775 should be here next week and the install should be soon also. And seems my brother-in-law has a 16 foot Boston whaler and is willing to tow me. So there's some good news.in the mean time maybe I can learn what these dimensions actually are!
775- 250mm x 775mm- 1496cm2 aspect ratio 4.14 (this is the go to size for most in smaller surf & has proven to work well for riders 200+ lbs)

Great choice on the foil.  You have to get a KeNalu paddle now too.

Spent a lot of time paddling on the 2.0 these last few days.
Swapping fins, moving up and down the board, long strokes, short strokes - and even wishing I had more power.

The ventral fin isn't completely out of the question, and installing one wouldn't be very difficult on a hollow board. In fact, it's rather simple, and the end result is a stronger setup as I would be installing from the inside with a hatch.

You're on the right path - also maybe try out a couple different paddles while you're at it +/- on length and blade size. Essentially the yaw is mostly caused by paddle stroke, so may get some flat water practice with a new paddle before you take it outside.
