No offense taken, all the points you made are valid. This would be board number 6 in the family's quiver, something I can stash in my car or office or apartment to ride during lunch breaks. It doesn't have to handle the big days or the bumpy days.

That Tomahawk looks like money and the price is right. How durable is the construction? I beat the crap out of hand glassed boards.

It might not be a bad idea to play about with your fin size and placement first. A smaller center fin might make a world of difference. in terms of maneuvering the board into the wave.

I wouldn't trust it to stay there for long in Vancouver.

I love mine, my only compliant is that the board is rather heavy. I'm 220 lbs, have ~400 hours on sup experience, about half of that time on the Sub Vector. More stable than my 9'3 ripper, probably doesn't turn quite as easily. If you are on the heavier side its a great shortboard.

Ohhh, I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for them. No chance of them coming out in FCS is there? I'm still hunting for a legit thruster set for my ripper.

As a 220 lbs guy, should I head straight for the PSH 12' Gun or are their any other good options for a heavy guy? Most of the other guns don't seem to have much more volume than my 9'3 Subvector.
9'3 Subvector: 138L 10'6 PSH Gun: 140L 11'6 Naish Gun: 143L
It doesn't seem like either would offer much more glide for getting on waves than my Subby would.

The hard part is that any use of an advantage creates an imbalance. Paddling out stand up just makes it obvious.
The best solution I've come up with is just to find a less popular break and be the first person out. Let everyone else decide from the shore if they want to go out and contend with someone on a SUP. That way they are at least given a choice rather than just being invaded.

12' would be the gun, only available in Boardworks construction I believe. It should be plenty durable, but if you are going to be spending most of your time on lakes there are probably better boards out there, unless you are getting a killer deal, in which case cut me in. I'd love to have a 12' gun, but they are all sold out in Hawaii.

Thanks for the info. I'm taking a good hard look at the Starboard Rush and the Naish Mana. Any other similar boards out there? I'm thinking that I'll be using it on South Shore Oahu mostly. My Subvector can stay out on the North Shore at my parent's place.
I'm wondering about colas' formula. The first part makes sense. You need X liters to displace X kilos. But you should really account for the weight of the board (and paddle, etc.) too. If you total weight in kilos = the volume of the board (on a flat board with no rocker) your feet should be right at water level. The whole board is under water. This obviously won't work. So what percentage of a board needs to be above water? It probably isn't 20 liters across the board, right? Does that make sense?

Okay, I'm 6'5" and around 220 lbs. Not going to get shorter or much lighter anytime soon. I'm hoping to get a board under 8' that I can fit in the corner of my apartment. Most of the boards I'm seeing around that size are advertised for 'advanced riders up to 200 lbs.' Is there anything under 8' that a 220 pound guy can legitimately ride?
For what it's worth, I'm riding a 9'3 Subvector, comfortable on it on choppy days and in double head high surf. Does that make me intermediate or advanced?
Thanks!

I'll second the 11'6" Naish Nalu. They've been around for long enough that they show up on Craigslist for 800-900 from time to time. I've got one on the North Shore if you ever want to give it a shot.

I'll second the 9'3 Subvector, especially for a 200 pounder. Great board, significantly better in choppy water than the 9'3 Ripper. Doesn't turn quite as well as the ripper but its close.

The waterman concept is lost on them. They think they are skateboarders and we are rollerbladers or something.
