He must be talking about the Sunova Wedge, not the Starboard Wedge.

The Shape Shack / Re: Board Thickness Effect

check out the Genration boards- specifically the Wedge.   I'm riding a 8'2 x 28 x at least 4.5 (Genration doesnt list thickness) at almost 230lbs in winter gear floating above the water and 'semi' stable at 118l. which is crazy volume for an 8'2 x28

its a full on performace shape but they figured out how to make you able to stand on a surfboard.  most dramatic stepped rails i have ever seen and by far (in the middle) the thickest and it works....well!

They've got the 8'2 Wedge listed at a whopping 5 inches at https://sunovasurfboards.com/en/legends/genration/wedge-g%D1%8F

I believe Armstrong is 33mm apart. MFC is 30mm too I think.

Foil SUP / Re: Is there a good place to foil on the north shore of Oahu?
« on: December 22, 2020, 08:20:08 PM »
The Aulani isn't on the North Shore, do you mean Turtle Bay?

If you are at the Aulani, white plains beach park isn't too far away. Conditions will be epic tomorrow and at least pretty good for the rest of the week. That's where I will be spending my mornings all week. Most people foil off to the right in front of the cottages, but the far left past the fenceline can be fun too. Further down the road are some other spots that are more finicky and currently less officially accessible. PM if you want more info

If you are at Turtle Bay, you should make the drive around to Kahana Bay at some point. Its probably the premiere spot on the island when its working. You will never see so many foilers out at one spot. Inside Puena Point and Lanikea both can work depending on the day and the crowds.

What’s the width of your current board. I’m on a 4’8”. Picking up a 4’6” today. Will report back in a week or so.

4'8x22x3.5 @49L. I'm about 220 lbs, but I figure I can shave off 5L and not lose much in paddling.

I'm on a 4'8 right now, just getting good enough to pump out into two for ones. Is jumping on board 2 inches shorter going to do much to help my pump game? Or would it be better to order a narrower board instead so I don't catch rails on turns as easily?

Foil SUP / Re: Efoil Vibe

There is a guy where I foil who is out there with an e-foil riding rollers on the outside before anyone can catch them. He launches pretty well clear of anyone and just paddles his board out like anyone else until he is outside the line up. He isn't taking anything someone else could so no one really cares past the novelty of it. This is Oahu though, California is a different beast entirely.

You might not need to travel past walking out your door, but a quick drive over to kahana bay might be worth it since you aren't far away at all.

Let know where you decide, I'll watch from the shore  ;D

Personally, when I get my SUP foil set-up going again, I'm headed for this spot:

Keahi is towing, but I've SUP surfed it up to about 12ft, but it holds as big a swell as anywhere, just as long as the wind stays favorable.

So I'm looking for a new SUP foilboard, not entirely sure I want to start winging, but maybe I guess. I noticed the larger fanatic and quatro wing boards are really close to what I'm looking for size wise in the foil sup though. Are there any design choices (rocker, conclaves, etc. ) that make them unsuitable or less than ideal for sup foiling?

Foil SUP / Re: Bump Cap - less kooky foil head protection
« on: October 06, 2020, 01:37:45 AM »
Oh, I did end up buying that hat I found on Amazon. Its well stitched and the shell is worth the price alone. The strap does dig at my neck a little which is uncomfortable so I only wear it when it's big out. I might just take the shell out and put it on a regular cap.

Gear Talk / Re: 2021 Starboard Pro line-up is out

I think the seabreeze guys were saying $3k in aussie dollars, 1.9k for the starlite. Carbon is a nope for me, but the Starlite price point might work for me.

Hey, remember when we didn't just foil?
https://sup.star-board.com/hard-paddle-board/pro/
Starboard did a pretty big redesign of their pro and wide point (now wedge) ranges for 2021. Added significant volume to everything, which I've been bitching and begging for ages. I would have liked a slightly narrower tail personally, and the longboard box just ends up being a hassle imho, but pretty excited. Hopefully one of the shops here on Oahu brings some in so I can hold one in person.

How did you rig up your paddle to sling across your back like that?
