Random / Anyone have a Pacemaker?
« on: September 25, 2021, 04:58:44 AM »
Just had a pacemaker implanted and wanted to ask if there's any of you out there that also have a pacemaker and are still getting after it i.e. flatwater, surf, foil, etc.?
Doctor says I can eventually go back to what I was doing before, but would be good to hear of some real-life examples.
Thanks!

Flatwater and Touring / Sore Feet
« on: May 26, 2021, 06:08:18 AM »
This has probably been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything when I searched ... After about an hour of paddling on the raceboard, my toes/feet start getting sore/numb. I try to move my toes and shuffle my feet periodically, but still after an hour I'm feeling it.

Thinking about trying to find a thin piece of hi-density foam to provide more cushion & comfort. NSI seems to have a pretty good selection.

Has anybody tried this, and can say what worked for them ?

Gear Talk / Nu-2-Me Carolina
« on: March 25, 2021, 11:47:34 AM »
Bought a fix-r-upper NSP Carolina over the winter, and I've finally finished the repairs and gotten it out for a few paddles. Luving the dugout standing position, feels like my feet are right on top of the water. Probably need to shorten my paddle 2-3" now, keep dragging the tip after I finish a stroke and go to reach again. Other thing is that it seems a bit susceptible to cross-winds, I'm attributing that to the flat vertical sides of the dugout, maybe 1.5-2 sqft of area? Haven't had it in open ocean or small surf yet, but looking forward to it.

General Discussion / Board Repair Referrals in FL ?
« on: February 05, 2021, 09:35:30 AM »
Do any of the FL zoners have a recommendation for quality board repairs in the central FL area (i.e. someone who can do it all ... dings, delam, color match, etc) ?

Flatwater and Touring / Respectable times ?
« on: October 06, 2020, 05:13:45 PM »
So what's a respectable speed for an average paddler on a 12'6" race/tour board in average conditions over say a 5km distance (min and/or mph)? ... asking for a friend.

Technique / SUP Clinic Experience
« on: July 19, 2020, 01:50:57 PM »
A week or so back, I signed up to participate in a SUP clinic hosted by Seychelle Webster (2019 APP World Tour Racing Champion). The clinic was today Sun 7/19 and was supposed to be limited to 8 paddlers, but as it turned out, I was the only one who actually showed up. Seychelle still went thru with the session and I ended up getting a private lesson. I've watched a slew of videos, but on-the-water, one-on-one instruction with an elite paddler/athlete was so much more valuable. She was totally patient with me and went to great length to explain, demonstrate, and have me get a "feel" for what she was talking about. I felt like she was genuinely interested in seeing me leave with improved technique. Such a great experience, such a great person, really happy it turned out the way it did.

And by the way, the SUP Connect voting is still going on. There's several US east coast, west coast and Hawaiian candidates ... so support your local pro (you can guess who I voted for).

With the projected path of Cristobal in the GoM, it looks like the TX coast could see some favorable surf conditions. You guys-n'-gals getting stoked?

Gear Talk / Sunova Flow 2.0 ?
« on: June 02, 2020, 07:51:29 AM »
Have been considering a Flow for awhile now, and just now see on Sunova website that there is a version 2.0 (Flow | Casey). Anybody have any intel on the 2.0 Flow? The website says it now has a step deck, but doesn't have their normal shaping bay video where BB talks about the shape. Is this even a board for mere mortal surfers?

Technique / Is it cheating to sit down in choppy conditions?
« on: March 22, 2020, 09:03:39 PM »
Beautiful spring day here on the central FL coast, nice little waist high swell action & water has warmed up nicely (no wetsuits needed). Started off with lite winds but that soon went away and we got this angled on-shore that resulted in 8-10"+ chop. Sets were ~8-10 min apart and I found myself battling this awkward wind chop between sets, getting out of position since I needed to keep moving, plus it was tiring me out. So I said screw-it and just sat down. Found I could still keep my eye on the swell, and was able to pop back up and be pattling again when the set showed up. Felt like I ended up getting a couple more waves since I wasn't getting out of position.

Any other thoughts on dealing with the chop?

Random / Beach Closures - COVID-19
« on: March 18, 2020, 06:48:15 PM »
Was just checking Surfline and see that Brevard County here in FL is closing beach access.

Plan B for me is to do some flat water paddling in the lagoon.

Gear Talk / Steller D Wing opinions?
« on: December 16, 2019, 07:46:35 PM »
There's a used 9' Steller D Wing for sale on the local Craigslist, been posted for a few months now and the price is slowly eroding. Haven't been able to find much written about them, anybody have experience with them and willing to share an opinion?
