Hi all, does anyone have any experience or knowledge to compare Ensis v2 versus Duotone Unit's?  Thanks in advance! Rob

Thinking about buying a Fanatic 5’4” foil board.  I currently ride the 6’6” 115 liter Sky Sup foil board and like it, but feel I could shorter,  I weigh 180 lbs and am advanced surfer , windsurfer and SUP surfer so I think I could handle 5’4” and 95 liters but not certain.  Ideally I’d like the 5’8” Fanatic @ 110 liters but they are in short supply...Thoughts?  Anyone riding the 5’4”?    Thanks in advance
@Caribsurf, I'm same weight and 10+lbs with full rubber up here in PNW (Vanc.Isl), riding the 5'0 Sky Wing. Similar story, went from my sup foil BluePlanet 6'6 116 lt to the 5'0 75 lt sky for winging only. I have to get up onto board and onto knees with wing in air very quickly to balance as it's very pitchy twitchy, you cant just sit there on knees or stand without wing pressure. It's a combination of the narrow width (24") and short length that make for a really small balance point/zone on the board while dead in the water, but I love it once up and winging it's is sooo much fun on a small board, and it actually made transitions so much easier for me.  There are times i have to prone paddle out to wind line or in from wind line.   That being said, I have a friend with the 5'4 Sky Wing and he to loves his board and has none of the issues that I have for stability as it's a considerably wider board, more length, and with 20 litres more volume.  He was a windsport rookie going directly to the 5'4 Sky. He is 165 and 10+lbs with rubber, so close to you if you're not all bundled up too?  I'm quite sure, I would have no issues with the 5'4 too at those dimensions, haven't tried his board yet but hope to.

For a dedicated wing board, if you're keen to advance, I'm sure you'd love the 5'4 Sky Wing (or something similar in volume, like DW's). I don't think I would be going bigger than 100 lt (floats 220 lbs), you won't need it at 20+ litres over your weight, and the length just takes up space once you're flying!

The new HPS B Series foils are now up with specs, descriptions,  and pics on the Axis foils site.  Bottom of pg.1 and continued on pg.2  https://axisfoils.com/collections/wing-foil-wings

I'm similar to ObxDave, 60 yrs and I do daily quick upper body workout so I can wing for hours with no harness.  I do quick dumbbell workouts - 5 sets of 10 reps of:  bicep curls; shoulder press (military press); and lateral raises.  Takes no more than 10 minutes and has made arm/shoulder strength a non-issue and I can wing for 3+ hours (with short breaks).  I originally started this for winging, I think it really helps and it has become side benefit of just generally being much stronger/fitter. I absolutely loath gym work, but with the short 10 minute work out and goal being fit to wing, it works for me!

Does anyone have any intel on the latest offerings from Axis, re the Froth Carbon Foil Boards? Some very interesting sizes in the lineup.  Little to no information/descriptions or images other than length, width, volumes.  Are they available and shipping

Had a near incident at Swell yesterday with a person who misjudged my 20+ downwind speed and insisted on going downwind of me. Screwed up my rhythm and I went in three more times in the next mile :'(

There are points in this downwinding process where we are far and away the least maneuverable craft and and cannot give way. The lawn mowing windsurfers want to use their 50 yard patch of longitude all day, I need it for about 15 seconds ::)

B#$%trd windsurfers!   I used to be one those guys  😜.  Tried wsurfing after about 8 months of winging a few weeks ago, not sure I'll ever go back!  Winging is soooo good!!!

As far as terms are defined, I make it simple.  The wing is the source of power, so you're either facing it with your toes, (toeside) or you're facing away from it (heelside).

Close, but using that analogy (the real power source) whether it be a wave or wind, you are either toeside (facing towards the wave/wind) or backside/heelside (facing away from wave/wind)

Hey All-Wet, I'm 185 lbs probably 190+ with the full rubber on here in Canada.  I've got a 116 lt board (getting a 75lt 5'0 sky wing), Axis 1000/370 foil and I went with the Naish 5.3m as my "big" wing and have never had any regrets. It is a fantastic wing, incredible upwind performance, great build quality and provides me lots of low end power to get going and do what i want. I figure I'm getting flying in about 13 on the low end right now (no whitecaps) and always getting better and pushing that lower!  If it's your first time winging you will need more wind to get the hang of it, but will quickly advance and get more efficient. My prime objective was to not get into the 6m+ wings,  I really don't want or need to go winging when it's flat and hardly any wind, and like my windsurfing background did not want to "carry" around a big sail. Everyone who has used a 6m+ has commented on how they catch or trip up in the waves due to their size. So if you're into downwinders, swell and wave riding I'd stick to the 5's. I'm loving the Naish 5.3m and Axis 1000 combo, I'm sure the Fone 5m and the Ozone 5m are equally capable on the low end, with the Naish probably having the edge in upwind and window visibility.

Looks like they'll come in a compact little pack,  so they will also be able to ship worldwide at a reasonable cost! Really interested to see more about these. The videos make them look very stiff with little to no flex.  I'm sure there will always be a market for hard boards but man this is the most tempting inflatable I've seen!

You can do the 5’0 no problem. I can ride my wife’s 75 liter no problem. I’m 190.

Awesome Dwight thanks!  I do keep coming back to the 5'0 as my favourite in my mind. Quit thinking just do it! Same issue with my gybes  :D

Hi Admin, have you tried the 5'0 yet?  Really interested to know about that board. I'm 83kg and looking to replace my 6'6 116 lt BluePlanet SUP Foil board I use for winging. I'm used to years of 75-80 lt windsurf boards so am familiar with how that volume supports me, but in a longer length. I'm a competent fast knee starter in pretty much all conditions from 10-30+ knots. I'm looking for that one board to wing with and can't decide between the 5'0 or 5'4.  I've got lots of variety from lake to ocean swell and point waves to "grow into" on my wing journey.  Thanks for any input on the 5'0 and 5'4.  Stay healthy & happy!  Rob

I have only ridden the preproduction models and I loved the 5.0 at 75 liters.  I still have trouble getting going about 15% of the time but I am starting to figure it out and what works for me and my sensitive knees.

River - Any more impressions, updates, tips for the Fanatic Sky Wing boards?  I'm particularly interested and torn between the 5'0 and 5'4,  I'm 85kg, would you say it's fairly easy (with practice of course) to knee start the 5'0 at 75 lt?  Thanks for any info and updates!  Rob

Has anyone figured out a way to get Gong boards shipped to N.America or USA? Is anyone using a France freight forwarder at a reasonable cost? Is it still just a pipe dream to get the Gong Lemon wing board if you're not in Europe?  Thanks for any info!
Rob

I put harness on handle 4 on 3.6. Hands on handles 2 and 6

Hi Dwight, I believe you have the 5.3 also, where have you put the harness for that size?  Thanks!

RobM,

The 1000 has no top end control limit for me. Try a smaller wing surfer when it’s super windy.

Just had an ocean session with the 1000 and 390 today. The 390 is a freak. So good......

Thanks for info Dwight, only been using the Naish 5.3m as I've sold my v1 4m and waiting to get a 3.6m (none around at the moment), so I guess I'm just getting the 1000 foil a little "powered up" with the 5.3 in those 24+ kn days.  Rob
