Curious if you saw any foilers there.  Obviously not a good location to foil with the crowded lineup, but I may travel there soon and I love to foil. Wondering if I could sneak in a dawn or sunset session when it's not too crowded.  Or session a wide peak that doesn't really break.

My gath convertible Large works great. I remove the liner strip when hooded, so two helmets not required for me.

Sorry, but that video is not a good measurement of alluula's/OR performance.  Poor racing and washed out wind by OR Rider for the rest of the race (Fact). He was in the lead until the wide/late turn.  Plus Tito is insanely talented and could take the Slingshot V1 wing and beat almost anyone on the highest dollar wing.

Gave the 925 and HA195 stab a run today (-1). Conditions were 15-25Mph with a 4M BRM, well powered up, flooding tide against the wind in a river/bay with short wind fetch setting up the odd knee high sets.

First thoughts were great until I tried to gybe and I came off foil (hadn’t done that in ages). Started getting worried so I kept cruising up wind to meet a friend.  Failed my first tack. Worried more. Seemed like the glide I was expecting wasn’t there. As I felt the tail wing out more, I realized the glide was there, but I really needed to be on my game. No wishy-washy transitions allowed. Need to set your bank angle and hold and you are good.

The ride itself (not making transitions in these specific conditions) felt amazing.  I’ve been really digging the powered up S carves lately and this setup was amazing. Super easy to set steep bank angle with the rear ankle and power through turns.

The end of the session offered up a mogul field of knee high runners criss-crossed with other bumps. I was brought back to my east coast snowboarding roots and ripped them apart, finding the runners and banking and slashing everywhere. Weaved my way through the kiters mowing the lawn catching some air in the shallows with a smile on my face.

Going to try the stab at -2 next, or plus 1. Felt faster than the fv200 unchopped.  Happy with it so far. With the investment over the fv200, jury is still out!

I was this close to joining Nuzzo on a downwinder to test the OR and X Wing, but both my kids got ill the night i was about to jet pre-dawn. It’s hard to pull the trigger on Aluula without demoing lol.

Great post WingdingJoe!  It actually gave me a great idea, or idea to repurpose someone else's ingenuity.  I'm not sure if you all are aware of James Casey's Deflate/Inflate Downwinger antics, but that same principle could be applied to problematic paddle outs.  Imagine the wing packed down neatly into a good fitting backpack.  Paddle out past the shorepound/hazards with just the board to worry about.  Once past the shorebreak, take out the wing and attached the inflate CO2 cartridge and all set.  Reverse could be done for the re-entry potentially.

I'm talking about using this method for specific scenarios where dealing with both wing and board is a dealbreaker.

Just need someone to come up with a clean interface option and sell it!

Im in a similar position, looking at replacing my 5M-6M wing range with an OR or maybe the Duotone D-Lab, which is rumored to be out in March stateside.  The LE on my 5M BRM is gigantic.  A slimmer faster OR looks amazing.

I'm concerned I wouldn't like the D-Lab hard handles.  One more potential ding machine for my board's rails (especially doing stinkbug starts in hectic conditions.  The LE looks pretty large here as well, so maybe not taking into account Allula's performance characteristics from design standpoint, simply an alternative construction.

Nuzzo recently posted on Insta about finally figuring out the 'tight' handle position, which 'made it much easier to ride in gusty conditions', so his complaint about touchy gusty performance seems to be nullified.  He did mention he wished there was a firmer LE handle for more control when DW riding, so maybe that could be a minor gripe.

Great advice above.  The last time i've had my foil tear my canopy I was going out with my 2M through some waist high shorebreak, in waist deep water, with 25-40MPH side-on winds, so it was kinda hectic.  I made it past the first few waves and went over the last one and released from the bottom handle when going over the wave in preparation to start paddling for the horizon. I was holding the wing downwind from the leading edge handle.  As I released my board hand, I immediately realized it was a mistake as the 60L board was lifted by the wind and launched over my head to land neatly on my waiting wing downwind. First time on my 725 and it took out a wing before I even rode it.  Took out my 3M and was way overpowered and had to call it after a short time out.  Starting was tough; could hardly stand on my board with out getting pulled airborne, leaving my board behind.

TLDR: Don't forgot to keep the board in control with wind gusts.  Can take you and/or your wing out!

Mine came in too. It’s very thin at 11mm right near the center. The fv doesn’t get that thin until around 1/2 way to the tips. Kdmaui tail stab is close at 12mm.  Can’t wait to give her a rip!

I just got to try out my Ride Engine Nugs hook with my Blue Planet waist belt leash (I added a weight lifter belt support similar to above amazon link.  I actually ran two nugs, as i'm still monostancing it, with one on my left hip and one in the center.   I was testing it on the beach and was blown away how well behaved the wing is in the harness (BRM). I also was using a harness line from kitesurfing.com, which has a portion of the spectra line spliced with bungee.  Worked super well!  Definitely kept me on the water much longer in the cold.  Glad to finally have my harness set-up dialed in.

I might make the trip down to Canadian Hole Wednesday.  Going to try and demo an X wing and OR Glide.

A friend recently had a board leash failure in a high current, high wind swell scenario at a pinchpoint on a river and he lost the board immediately.  He hadn't learned self rescue techniques yet, as he was just learning the wing (avid windfoiler).  Luckily a boat down wind saw the board floating down the river with out a passenger and looked up river to see him floating with the wing a few hundred yards away.  It would have been a long swim for him and he likely would have had some trouble given the location.  He was the only one out too.  He thinks he may have failed to properly attached his reel leash.  (Double Check Your Safety Points Before Entering Water)

Haha thank you for the clarification Bill.  I was more referring to a simple paper airplane for illustrational purposes. ;D

Great advice Jondrums.

I like to make the analogy for tail wings like this: Imagine a paper airplane with the little tail flaps. If you put them up, the plane will maintain a more stable, slower flight (unless you really throw it hard (backflip)). If you put the tail flaps neutral, the wing will be faster, less predictable, and make it to the ground sooner.

Makes sense if you imagine a plain trying to make a banking turn with tail flaps down/neutral versus tail flaps up. The tail flaps up will allow a tighter and lower speed banking turn with less likelihood of stalling.

Started foiling in 2018 and the froth has been 110% since.  Before then, waiting on swells for a shot at some decent shortboarding was almost always a letdown at my local.

Fam asks me what I want for Xmas, and I'm like, 'I'm good!  I buy all the foiling gear I want throughout the year, that's all I need!"

Life can be broken down into Pre-Foiling Initiation / Post-Foiling Initiation.  (I guess pre marriage/post marriage and kids et al as well  :P)

Local crew is growing and its great to see the stoke.
