I have to pitch in with Southwesterly. The wide, short boards are no harder than the thinner longer boards. However, going from longer to shorter in the same width can take a few sessions to dial in.

The fun thing is having your board fit into the pocket on smaller waves. It's a whole new feeling and a blast.

Yeah, watch any big wave video where people aren't towing (and some where they are) and there's tons of wave sharing. Lord, at Waimea it's a tradition.

That guy was trying to pull back and there was no interference.

Travel, Trips, Destinations / Ok, 808 - South Shore season?

When do we see the South Shore kick up in spring? I'm planning a trip and trying to see if I might stall it to get better waves in Waikiki.

(went North last Fall and wanna spend some "Town" time with the Wife.)

I'm not looking for huge swells, just better than the knee high I see on the cams now.

Yup, the same JOB we all know. He rides both, along with a ton of other North Shore boys.

Here's the question... what do the short board boys think about him not getting beyond the first round?

I love that he went for it, and I'm not saying a single bad thing, but I have to say that a lot of people, including myself thought he was gonna step in and wipe the floor. To me it speaks to the finesse and differences between the 2 disciplines.

I'm ready to see his next move.

On the 4's you can activate the LED "flash" on the back. It'll actually light up a room. Super handy.

I'd also love to see the "unedited" version with more footage of getting in and out. That was the craziest part of watching the HB event. Kai and others would just crash through like there were no waves on their way out. (It was waist high at best) I'd love to see what they were doing at Sunset.

Now, to the content.

The level of the surfing was amazing. I aspire to turns that smooth and seeing guys manage boards that big (compared to shortboards) in surf like that was amazing.

I don't think folks take into account what it takes to pull out of a drop at the last minute like those guys were doing because of the wind, and also what it takes to get out and maneuver in the lineup.

Thanks again for showing that to us all. It's amazing what a guy with a brain, a camera and a decent computer can do these days.
