There's a ton of info now on http://prayforprickett.com

He's in SD, can move his legs a little and they think he'll walk again but it'll take a long time to get his legs working correctly. So tough to think of being out of action for that long. I'm grateful for my health today.

Bill, spill on that Kalama... I saw it before I even read the text.

Maybe that's a thread elsewhere?

Let me lay it down for ya. It's hard for me to drag my butt out of bed and into cold water and I love this stuff. A "casual" participant will never be a problem other than on the nicest sunniest day.

The NE boys have it right. When it's not perfect, they won't be out. We all take it for granted but our water is cold. The harbor might fill up, but the lineup is mostly safe if you ask me.

David, as a video pro I'll tell you that you may be right. The PAL pressing is probably a short or limited run.

I'd hit them up to send you a digital file since you paid for it and you can burn it or just play it on whatever set top box you may have. Pressing discs is so 2010.  ;)

Lacking a "safety layer", I can say that I've been reduced to barely walking several times in my life. I always take a ribbing for over dressing but I know my limits and I know that even that little "let the rip bring you back" trip could be deadly for me in 50º water if I'm not dressed for it.

Ditto on the cotton, and always at least bring a hat if you're prone to chilling.

Prickett is back in the states as of today.

He should be in San Diego at UCSD by now.

A lot of folks have pitched in to help him out with travel. I have a meeting with one of them tomorrow. Might have to cut them a break on the rate for good will. ;)

That is exactly the feeling we can't explain. Thanks man.

No offense taken. And while I have a couple of years of surfing under my belt, I still can be confused by certain situations. Those are the ones I "sit out".

As a visitor or in my home break, I am always one to sit around in the lineup and relax a little and let a few roll by. I paddled out this weekend and mostly sat just to enjoy a flat SoCal weekend afternoon in the water.

Something that my limited prone paddling experiences taught me, it's way harder to catch a wave without a paddle. I tend to let the longboarders have what they want when that "one" comes rolling through. That courtesy goes a long way. A few sessions on your belly will teach you a little respect in a hurry.

I use it all the time to figure out distance when I don't wanna carry the phone/bag.

Google earth is completely mindblowing when you consider it's free.

I saw the same thing when I looked there last. Really rough stock.

Glad you found some boards but yeah, I think all the shops need some polypro or Bic boards for beginners to beat on.

Hey man, the Quiksilver store in Hanalei used to have Titus Kinemaka set up to rent boards and he had quite a few 9' and 10' progressive shaped boards.

Is that no longer happening or did you maybe miss it?  The rental situation on Kauai is bad but then again, if you know Kauai, although they are nice folks, they don't really want us to know about their waves in the first place. ;)

Sounds like you were a perfect visitor, thanks for the awesome report.

If you ever head back there, hit me up, I'll turn you onto a couple of amazing flatwater paddles over there that will make your day.

Man, I'm not there til the 20th of April, but it's always good to hook up with Zoners.

+1 on hitting it early in HI, the wind will blow you out of waves!

BluePlanet has some great boards for downwinders too, I believe.

Robert, there's a service, shuttles and guides for DW runs.

Photos of that area are truly amazing. Hopefully you'll hook up a better deal than the $250,000 a week chartered motor yachts.

Keep us posted, my wife also has friends in St. Lucia.

Now... about this standup paddling stuff... let's get on with it. Unless you guys wanna bust on this guy anymore for his comment.

You'd have thought he'd have talked bad about Naish or something. ;)

I think the comment was about the Zone, more than anything.

Honestly, and I don't mean to raise a stink, but there aren't that many of us on here and it can be a bit of a boys club, as a lot of online forums are.

The sport is fine, but the Zone would probably benefit from a bit more filtering from us. (I include myself in this. I'm as big a wingnut as any.)

In the end, there, there aren't as many people on this thing participating as could be and I think the original poster was offering that thread as a possible reason.

There's a lot of kinds of people in this world and we're not all of them. ;) I think tolerance is a pretty amazing quality in a real man... that, and respect for women.
