I own three Corebans, Rockett, Fusion and Vibe.
The Core series seems to get paint problems in the last couple of years. I've not had any trouble with seaworthy-ness. If you see the tiny cracks those are related. I've had those on my Vibe and no trouble at all other than cosmetics.
Really well made boards otherwise and Ivan is a great designer for all around performance. Super fun.
Hm.. I need to get that Vibe back out after a few months on the 9'0".

I put in a vote for some Thule or Yakimas. I bought mine used and have never regretted it.

Can you demo them?
Some on here will say that the Nitro is fine but I think it's personal. 3" off the width is a pretty serious step down. The Lithium is a pretty agressive board from my memory of it. But I haven't ridden the Nitro.

Ok, I need to post my pics, I'll get them tomorrow.
The solid handle is a great idea. Do it if you can install in the glass.
My new padded design has 2 safety features.
1 - it's short so it can't wrap or constrict. It'll tear off the board or break before it does. It's straight across the back, no stretch.
2 - It's now almost 2" thick, you just lay your hand on it similar to what I did with my kickpad. No thumb. It pulls away if you get slammed. It's more of a lip than a handle.
Beasho is right about being close to your board. It's good to be able to get back on the board quickly.
As to the Hawaiians, they invented it. Sam Pa'ae and then Pono showed his here.
I'll shoot some video and pics in the daylight.
I have a very clear idea of the Gambler concept. (Know when to hold 'em...)

There are deals in LA but they are hard to come by. Stay South if you can if you want to be near the ocean. Subscribe to Westside Rentals http://www.westsiderentals.com/ (the name is wrong, they list all over.) It's a pay service but it has the best selection. Found my house there. The good news is that if you have a career and are a hard worker, you can easily make far more than you can just about anywhere else. Westside rentals and some google street view will tell you most of what you need to know about where you will want to live.

From my own experience and from watching here on this forum, it seems that while the wave may not kill you by drowning, the violence of the energy applied to your gear creates weapons that are actually attached to you in some cases.
After seeing what a head high wave can do to a board or paddle in the wrong place at the wrong time, I cannot imagine what could happen to human flesh and bone when hit by a board or paddle propelled by a 20 foot whitewater wall moving at speed.
I'd bet that most of the injuries and deaths to non-big wave pros come from gear related injuries more than wave hold downs. (knocked out and drown.)
This is the reason I respect big surf. I'd body surf a 20 foot wave no problem, I've hit the water at over 50 mph water skiing with no ill effects. But add a board and the danger skyrockets to my mind.
I think that the mental aversion keeps deaths down more than it just not happening. People just aren't in big waves as much. How many people on this planet regularly go out in surf that size? A few hundred? Less? Think about it.
Thoughts?

I love this. If you get it sorted I'd love a video walk thru of the mechanism. I'm not really clear on it from the separate pics, but this is super cool.
It's also good to see you iterate down to a simpler and simpler design.

I also note the floatation effect. I stayed near the top too and me and the board stretched out exactly as you said like I was a drag anchor on the board.
One question, when it stretches, there's no constriction like the hose collapsing on your hand? That's my only question with the extra length, is could the board flip and catching your hand in a bind.

I fixed mine today. Pics to come. Description here but first...
Beasho, I like the addition of the stretch. What happened to me is that when the wave passed me the tail kicks up and away from me, smashing my fingers between the hose and the deck. (That plastic seemed so soft in the sun, but cold water made it nice and stiff and pinch-ey. (Is that a Spanish curse?)
My fix... outer diameter of my hose/handle was 3/4". I got some 1/2" hose insulation which stretched over it nicely, then I used some Alabama Chrome, (aka Duct Tape) and wrapped it.
The result is a handle 1 1/2" around which you can just lay your hand over and hold on a bit. If it's big, it'll release and even if you get caught a little the foam makes it no big deal. I really wanted something that I could release cleanly and I got it, no thumb, just 4 fingers over the handle and it's a nice non-constricting grasp.
All I need now is some white tape to let it blend a little and I feel like the design is solid.
Beasho, check back in after a little wave time. And thanks for the feedback, it's cool to see things evolve online.

I'd buy it just for the name. Raimana World is on my bucket list. Anyone got any info on these? Seems a lot like the older Lopez surf sups.

Great report man. Also thanks for the 411 on the resorts that's critical stuff. It all looks good on the brochure.

I'm looking for foam to bulk it up. The idea of letting it slip without binding if it's a serious pull is a good one. Once I get this sorted I'll repost. Looking for maybe handlbar grips, or another source.
Pono has it sorted with the windsurf strap if you can mount one. I didn't want to get into the glass work.

I agree with SL, with fins and some water time that is a "forever" board I'll bet.
Nice one.

I'm pretty sure that's waderz from here, not Jeff.
I'll have to hit him up and see.
