I agree. Guys, go to the site and spend 5 min checking the pics of the Kube. It’s like two boards stacked on top of each other.
Also cool to see the construction of their carbon masts. That might be my next big purchase. Long carbon mast for the ding. 19

Great thread guys. I don’t film enough and I’m making a resolution to change that this year. It’s gotten so easy.
Word is that I might be doing a gig for GoPro soon. Do you think they will mind if I had an Insta360 when we show up? ![]() I wanna hear Creek weigh in here. 20

Inflatable doesn’t really work for surf, no matter what people say (other than Uli RIP)
Rental, however, is how I deal with this. Adapting to a new board is part of the game for me now. But I will say, I’m loving wing foiling and never having to carry anything over a 5’ board again... until I’m older. lol (they get you in the end!) 21

Haha Bigmtn, that was my last session. It looked windy but was not.
Thanks for the guys who listed your winds overlapping. That helps. If a 5m goes 15-25 and a 4 goes 20-30 I can see how you could plan for the lulls and gusts. I was sort of struggling in my mind to see how far below each range you could cheat when people said one size from 10-20 and then another from 20-30. Can you assume +/- 5 knots for all these in a pinch? 22

Interesting trend here in the data.
If you have more wings, your wings have less range. Noted. ![]() ![]() But seriously, it is a challenge for the CA folks as the gusts are crazy here. But I can see how the whole system contributes. I did a light wind day the other day and if my pumping had been better, (board) I could have made it through more lulls on foil. Solent I get why you’ve gone high aspect across the board. Pono, I can’t imagine trying to manage a wing and leashes at 50mph. I’d need to just use an umbrella at my size. This is a solid thread and very helpful for those of us figuring out what goes where. 23

Pono represents a certain size range, but I’m closer to the other end of the spectrum. Based on the Slingwing thread I wanted to see what sizes were comfortable with what wind speeds and rider size.
This is mostly selfish as I’m not ready to get into real wind yet but after feeling what a 20mph day feels like I can’t imagine 30-40. At my early stage with a 5m swing I can get foiling in 15 really easily and stay up below that of course (seems like maybe 10?) but I can’t imagine riding above 25 on that wing. What do you Gorge and HI guys ride when it’s macking? And how do you put together a quiver? I doubt I’ll get into serious wind but wondering what the general ranges are like and what’s the top end. Are people really riding in 50mph wind? 24

Wingsurfing, Windfoiling, Wingfoiling, Wing SUP / Re: Wing foil sessions - beginner« on: January 02, 2021, 08:24:19 AM »
Session ~15 and I’m working on riding on “off” side, either toe or switch. After trying toe side I figured out that I need more room to learn that. In the lake I can’t really get far enough upwind yet to take the downwind angle I need to learn toe side. I’ll save that for larger lakes or for once I get switch. So I “switched” strategies and focused on foiling switch and got some short rides with no crashes. Did a lot of taxi-ing too to get the feel for weight distribution.
One challenge to practice is that the lean back then come forward that I’m using to pop up is slower switch so I’m practicing that and going back to the beginner method of letting speed put you on foil. It’s coming and 2-4 sessions should have me on foil solidly on my off side. Once I can do that I’ll feel confident in open water. (I could go now but just taking it slow and I’d rather be able to go full speed either side in case I need to get back in fast.) That should open the door to getting way upwind which will let me practice turns on long downwind reaches (is that the term?) And that, and my surfing should get me to a jibe on foil. I really need to go ride with Pono in Mission Bay while he’s there too. Same conditions as the lake with way more room to run. 26

Agreed, thx guys.
Caribe, I’m right where you are. When I’m not too “hot” I can jibe to toe side but can’t get the wing and my body to work yet. And yeah, fast falls on the wing ding are hairy-er than I expected. 27

Aw man, you wind guys make a man learn a lot of new stuff. I’m just about to get comfortable on foil switch and now I gotta learn toe side too? 😉
I was hoping to get to plateau a bit by next week. It seems the Apollo-level splash downs will continue over here. But the “gybe on your strong side” advice makes a lot of sense. 28

Yeah, I’m the weirdo in my crew who just checks out for the day (weekends only for now at least.) I get around it by having multiple friends to hang with lol. One crew for morning surf, then lunch, then meet others at another spot. If I don’t move I just hang in shifts as people come and go.
Once I retire I’ll be that dude in the lot all the time in a van. Hoping to claim a spot along PCH with all the other guys who look like me there. ![]() 29
