Prone Foiling, Surf foiling, Pump Foiling / Re: Swim Missiles

Thx for the update to the thread admin. So everyone knows, I'm not discouraging anyone or commenting. People of course use this for info. When that person asked about buying a board simply wanted someone to say, " this is an experiment" so they didn't spend $3,000 and wonder why they couldn't do it.

As a crap foiler I've ridden more waves on my belly than standing and can attest it's possible but as you said, the catch is the thing and a 2 for 1 pumping might not be possible. I agree the ocean will work but how many times you can paddle up before we're gassed will be the thing.

With a Foil Drive replacing pumping I think it'll get more fun. But then you can also rethink the board. A foil drive boogie might be better for prone pumping. Hmmmm so many options.

These boards from King's look great. What is the guidance on sizing for a prone DW board? Will the folks at King's be listing these on their site at some point?

Thanks!

I'll gently advise that this whole idea of prone (lie down) foiling is currently in development. While people boogie foil (Sam!) The idea of foiling consistently in control lying prone is yet to be figured out.

Admin, would you think it's fair to say that to anyone thinking of buying and expensive singke use board at this time? Or is this more established than I'm thinking? When I've done it I've not been able to control things. But then again that's true of me on any foil craft by and large. 😅

Let Bigmtn wing these foils!

I will say, don't sleep on wing and sailing training before they foil.

I'm learning to roller skate backwards after skating for most of my life. Once I got "good enough" it was hard to stop and work on a fundamental.

Once you can mow the lawn you are less likely to focus on wing control. Once you are off the water all your thoughts go to not crashing. I discovered this by accident  by going out in lame conditions before I knew what to do. But because of that my wing handling is pretty good compared to my overall foil skill and that helps me every session.

Wing foiling is sailing. Remember that if you've never done a wind sport. It's probably my fav part now, learning and observing the wind. Fascinating.

I think this overlooks that we are SUP experts by and large. Standing on the board and getting to your feet is a huge hassle the first few days for most people, even good prone foilers/surfers.

As was said 2 years ago, you need two boards to start (borrow or rent). A boat you can stand on and learn to sail and then whatever you want. Kalama, wide, whatever.

If someone is an experienced water person, sure. But if not don't make their learning curve longer by giving them a 20" wide board to try to knee sail for those first sessions.

Agree Hdip.

Hey admin, when you sending Hdip and I a set or two down to LA to test? We are dying to ride any of your stuff. We are from Hollywood, we know how to handle an NDA. 😀😆😅

Probably $100-$150 in materials here depending on what you have/buy. Pump is $40--$75 online.

I'd add an output hose/pipe to keep oil out of your shop but that's easy or runit outside when you use it.

I've got friends who work in the VR space and it's still early but it will change the world once it's debugged and smoothed.

I think AR is the way to get people in. I can see using it in design and architecture and pretty much anywhere multiple people have to look at a screen in the same space, or apart, together.

Like all Apple products it'll be too expensive at first... and it'll create a new market where one didn't exist.

Whatever it takes man. Don't stop, don't give in.

I'm backing this setup 100%.

Admin's made 5 foils while I've been sanding this damn board.

;D :D Tracking you across multiple platforms. Haha.

This one has a weird aspect to it for me. Others brought it up and now I have to know. Will this tunnel, which gets smaller due to the foil of the bottom wing, introduce drag due to the incompressibility of water?

Pono, what's the science here?

As I said elsewhere, it doesn't matter if this is a weird bad experiment. The design to production time makes it a full success no matter how it foils. This whole thing has moved the sport forward immensely.

And feel better knowing that Hdip trolls me weekly to finish my latest board. 😂

Bill, I'm glad you're keeping the heat on admin like you do me. 😅

But I agree! We are waiting!!! Do it, do it!

This is all great news. I agree with Hdip, if you can swim them into rocks, you've made something well. Most DIY would be toast with a halfway decent hit.

You are getting to my secret wetsuit setup for summer. Farmer John is too leaky so it's cold. Thin top over it seals the splashes and keeps your shoulders free for paddling. This is a near perfect arrangement. And you can go up to a 2 mil top before you have to go back to 3/2.

Ah, you guys are making me want to paddle again.
