I must give credit to Winga for the setup.

Could not help myself.

SUP claw thing is made by a few folks already. Mostly not easy because you have to carry that thing while your in the water. Handles work. And if not, the strap carriers are easier to store if your hands canít handle the walk.

Waterbike is cool. Iíve always wanted a wakeboard but really wouldnít pull the trigger til they made one that could deliver consistent hard blows to my nuts.

Finally, solved.

Hope this made you laugh. But a lot of this stuff existed during the boom of 2009-2012 or so and just went away when people figured out that this wasnít a long term giant trend at least at the high end.

Dave, Iíve avoided buying one yet but I agree, the Insta360 supposedly beats the Max on software. Thatís a big deal on these cameras.

However one tip for any wingers with a Hero 9. That Max lens mod is key since you can do full 360 horizon leveling. So if you mount to a wing, you can jibe and tack and not flip the image. Thatís a lot of what we want out of 360 anyway.

Googled. Read the first section for a mind blowing wave. The motion of waves is shown later by the rubber duck.

Learned this lesson lol. Now Iím trying to figure out how to extract myself and some money from this thing I built lol.

Warning all younger people I meet to carefully consider what is ďenough.Ē  I had to play catch-up for a misspent youth. But then again, did I?

Anyway, I like the Gong stuff and i dig the vibe of Patrice and his family and crew. They seem to love the sport and thatís the root of any good water sports business.

Ok, I gave it a few days but I canít interpret ď100į to the wind ď

On a 360į plane, where is the wind from? And where is my nose aimed?

For example if wind is from 0į (North) Iíd normally go across it at 270į W or 90į E as an easy angle. What would you say my nose could reach if I was headed 90įand turned North?

Bill, couldnít agree more about Robert and Blue Planet. If he wasnít having such a good life Iím sure someone could fund him and scale his ideas. But damnit, living is Hawaii he just gets to work and surf and working 3x harder wouldnít get him a better life Iíll bet.  ;D

But I agree, explaining things is deep detail is what makes the difference. That usually comes from hanging at a local shop. But Robert, Real watersports and MacKite to name three have taken that experience into video and online to great effect.

The rendering.

https://youtu.be/-J2eQgnavbI

They broke ground a while back and have been posting construction photos.

My first wing is starting to show wear. Itís clearly not built that well (Rise series, the old stuff.) But my two newer wings are as nice as anyoneís in my crew. The mast and fuse, the same, cheap, Chinese aluminum, like the first Naish stuff. But now thereís a full carbon mast and guess what? They look and seem to perform like all the others. Itís just not in English and we donít read French and they donít give a damn if we do because they sell all they want to in Europe. 😂🤣

Things change. Companies grow. Iím not saying they are the best but they aren't alibaba and they arenít guessing. This is a plan.

OK, have you guys seen the facility Gong is building in France? They arenít small anymore. You arenít just a ďshopĒ when you sell container load after container load.

As to R&D, they all ride. Check out Patrice, Beryl, and Malo (and more.) if you think they are Jimmy Styks or whatever thatís not who they are. They have a custom shop and shape like every other shaper.

Since when does Jimmy Lewis or Alex Aguera have a giant R&D budget, right? No offense but they or any of the other shapers arenít that well funded really. Hell the whole industry is basically guys making prototype wings in an industrial space, ordering them from China and storing them in that same space til some tiny shop sells 3 or 4 and orders more.

So, subscribe to their Instagram and YouTube channels and see if they have anyone pushing the limits on their stuff (they do.) Iíll try to find the piece on their new factory/warehouse.

This isnít because I own a foil of theirs. Itís just respect for someone who has clearly worked their ass off and just decided that the reseller channel doesnít fit what they want to do.

Shit, I sound like Colas. Hahahahahaha.

54, I get a bicep pump due to my bad form, Iím sure. The better you get, the less effort it takes for sure. I still get a little sore in my upper mid back but again thatís when Iím slogging a lot in low wind and canít get on foil. Foiling takes no pull.

Knees were beat like Chan said at first from lots of knee starts. Now Iím not there long enough to worry.

My hands and forearms get the worst of it like DW. Iím starting to stretch more and I ice them after but long term thatís probably the hardest part.

YO, updating this. Dawn Patrol still the jam for Watch apps?

Ok so now able to start riding on foil switch. Still not pretty and not consistent but knowing how this all works Iím probably 2-3 sessions from getting that to where Iím comfortable. Iíll start trying toe side then but for now Iím going to start practicing on land since I seem to be pretty stiff in my waist and shoulder rotation.

One limitation to learning is that I really canít head upwind strongly switch so for now I have to only try when Iíve made good progress on my good side.

Yesterday was steady 15 mph with gusts to 20 (I think) and it felt overpowered at times with my 5m. I am learning to ďflyĒ the wing and depower and power it up as the wind shifts. I even used that second handle on the swing a bit. Lol  But man, I could use some steady Hawaiian wind. (Couldnít we all here in mainland winter?)

Got an Apple Watch and used Surfline Sessions to track my rides. Fastest speed I show was 13mph. Iím assuming that as I get better Iíll make more speed? I will say that when the speed hits 13 feels crazy fast with a strong wind blowing you. Must be wild in 30. It looks like I was going about as fast as the average wind with the gusts. Is this to be expected? And will speed come with experience (and yes, I think Iím about to try moving down to my faster foil on better days too.)

I want to also report that with my feet in the right position I can fully control this XL Gong Rise. I can see how the speed tops out but between managing my wing angles and keeping the front down, a small person can 100% learn on a big wing and itís is fun now to pop onto foil immediately. So Iím glad I have this wing to start with. Also, for switch riding itís been great to have the stability and slow reaction speed for sure.

General Discussion / Re: Dinged hydrofoil wing affect performance?
« on: January 10, 2021, 08:10:45 AM »
Actually youíre lucky. Now for your first 6 months of sucking you can blame your wing. Those here who bought brand new Axis and GoFoil gear just had to face that it was them.

Get used to saying, ďI almost made that move but that dip in my wing threw me off.Ē  ;D ;D :D ;)

Google, ď1080p action cameraĒ these are all over for under $20. Just donít support those guys. I get all those ads too.
